  1. Now I have tested and I did not hear sound after taking a photo (after turning off shutter sound) but there is a clicking sound when I press settings button for example (also that menu instantly turns off after opening in landscape mode).

It also produces that noise on closing camera app - anyway, that sound may be normal and it may come from focusing mechanism.

The Pro1X i got my hands on is not retail, but would be interesting if some that got retail version of both, could post some sample images.

Pro1X takes better photos than Pro1 using stock camera application but Pro1 takes better photos than Pro1X if I compare Pro1X stock application to Pro1 using Google Camera (GCAM mod of Pocophone F1).

It would be good to compare an optimized Camera software on both devices anyway.

I don't know if @DieBruine has tried GCAM mod but it really worth a try.

I haven't heard about the existence of clandestine OTA updates happening in the background, and I have no reason to suspect my phone would have had any such update in the short while that I have it. That said, I have no idea what has been happening here, either, but, purely speculatively, I could think of some things. Like some kind of speaker calibration happening in the first days of usage, with some usage data gathered and the driver behaviour changing slightly according to the collected data. I have no idea why anyone would program something like that for something as simple as a speaker, but anyway it's a potential, possible, hypothetical explanation 😉

...or another application / service was upgraded through Play Store as a standard Android (not firmware) upgrade which is somehow in connection with speaker-related issue...

    Same size exactly, eh?

Exactly - only difference between printers may affect size.

I have also purchased screen protector from Aliexpress but sellers for Elephone U Pro have started to disappear.

It looks like the screen is still without any protection really.  Otherwise it looks pretty solid.  I found https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4618945, though am guessing it would need adjusted for the Pro1-X...and I am not a 3d Printer person so would have no clue what I am doing before asking a friend to print it.

@EskeRahn Does that flip case have a cutout for the camera and does it work with the finger print reader?

Pro1 and Pro1X has the same size, if you need to adjust, that is because of differences between 3D printers.

Anyway, there are screen protectors made for Elephone U Pro which has the very same dispay, even there is a company which sells screen protector specfically for Pro1(X)... Elephone U Pro is the same regarding screen protector.

  6. @Logan, right, as others say, it is nothing to lose if you try it out.  🙂
It may also worths waiting for a firmware upgrade anyway before a final decision.

One advice based on earlier experiences with Pro1 is to handle the back sticker with care, your hand may easily worn its text - and that is what you don't want if you may want to sell it to somebody.
I have removed my sticker of Pro1 and put it back to its box anyway.

Otherwise it does not matter if you try it out I think.

Sadly the lack of a proper hard shell case now that I have gotten my phone (a week or so ago) has pretty much forced my hand into just selling my Pro1 X.  I wanted it to become my daily driver and without a solid case solution I don't even want to risk it.

In another thread, I have showed my daily driver Pro1 and my hard rubber case made for P20 Pro which has needed some hand cutting but basically it fits.
One disadvantage is the different position of volume / power buttons, so you can not feel their exact position but that is not a huge problem for me.

Here it is (see near the end of the video):

If anyone interested - I took a video of my daily driver Pro¹ which is in use since two 2 years and 8 months (since very end of 2019).
I had to replace the screen a few times and its USB board once.

I have used this Pro¹ to take photos of the Pro¹X (and video of it together with my spare Pro¹) above and now I have used my Pro¹X above to take a video of it. 🙂

I have applied a hand-cut protective foil at its back because it seemed Pro¹ has a bit weak paint at its back, so it is there since I have started using it.
My second SIM card is wired on the back of the phone because I wanted to also use an SDCard together with two SIMs.
Also, I have a hand-cut hard-rubber case made for P20 which covers its back including the second SIM and I have applied some additional bumps near SIM holder for the phone to sit on them instead of the SIM card holder...
I am also using this case since I am using this phone.

I had to obscure some parts of the mirroring effect using a video editor (Kdenlive) as I did not want to put my face to Youtube. 🙂

    1) When I call someone, or someone calls me there is a silent moment of 30 sec before it starts ringing.
Sometimes the call aborts before it starts ringing. - Even when having full cell phone reception.

I think it is a software issue which they should repair sooner or later by an upgrade.
I have also experienced a similar behaviour  - maybe related to VoLTE / VoWiFi but not checked yet.

    22 hours ago, Robert said:

    2) It seems like the sensor that checks if the mobile is placed next to the ear is not working properly.
I had no call, where I haven't pressed the mute button.
Pressing the mute button or other buttons even happens if the screen is black.

Do you mean the sensor does nothing or touch panel works even when screen is off?
If the latter (but otherwise screen blanks) then it is not a sensor issue.

I may check later (I don't have Pro1X with me now) if it behaves the same for me - it sounds also to be a software issue.

So I would not worry too much yet. 🙂

Once I uninstalled Button Mapper, the physical keyboard behaved as expected, and the question mark key worked again.

So I guess there's no free lunch at present.  I can choose to avoid all those accidental triggerings of the camera button, but only at the cost of losing some of the functions of the physical keyboard.

Hopefully this is dealt with in an update of either Button Mapper or the FX firmware on the phone at some point.

Button Mapper has used to cause problems on my Pro1 after some time - that time I have thought the plenty buttons of the phone has caused some slow down, so I felt it is better to not use it.

Anyway, just wanted to write I have no problems writing question mark and other keys on my Pro1X but it seems you have already figured it out. 🙂

I wanted to do it on mine but that didn't work, an extra command is required when in bootloader mode:

    fastboot oem enable-charger-screen
    fastboot oem off-mode-charge 1

    (Thanks Tadi.)

Interesting - I have applied only the latter but it seems to work... it displays a battery on boot and charges.

I barely have nails and I can open the tray on my PRO¹-X, though... I just tested, a clip also works. I so much prefer no injector tool to use and lose.

I could not open it of my Pro¹X using my nails but it may happen the reason was the very first two openings - also it is harder to open if both SIM slots are in use.

    3 minutes ago, brunoais said:

I disagree... I still prefer the 2SIM/1SIM+SDCard. I just would prefer 2SIM+1SDCard... I see there's space for it but I wonder it would hurt in the structural integrity... Otherwise, the solution for that would be a deeper tray which would take more internal space. However, with 256GB storage... Hopefully, I won't need SD card... Time will tell...

Once I saw a very well-built (not too long) 2SIM + SDCARD holder.
Otherwise, I feel more confident also having an alternative data storage in my phone - I understand there are "clouds" but also phone hardware may have problems.

My friend's Pro¹ has developed an internal UFS flash storage problem (completely dead flash IC) and also two of my Nokia N900s developed faulty eMMC flashes - however, N900 had a 256MB flash near SoC which it has used for booting and also for root filesystem, plus a 32GB eMMC flash contained the rest of the OS and user data... as the 32GB flash became faulty, it could still work using its internal 256MB flash and an SDCard.

So I prefer to try to worn Pro¹'s flash more slowly by also using a replaceable SDCard and I am more happy if I may still use some of my data if the phone may has a faulty flash later in time...

What a piece of work there! I wonder if there's better alternatives... I really dislike hybrid slots... If you put a seem, seems like a waste. If you put an SD card, then you can't use the SIM card... Always feels like a waste in some way or another... When I want the best of both worlds....

I feel the same... when I first saw Pro1 will have a hybrid slot, I was very upset.
However, also founder wanted to have a full slot, simply engineers could not solve it by the time.

However, I still feel my Moto G6 has a much better SIM slot, however, it is also much longer.
...but I also saw other phone which had a relatively small SIM holder but maybe a bit thicker.

Also, F(x)tec wanted to have a SIM slot which is easy to open, that is why the current opening method (it does not need a SIM tool), but I could not open it with my nails so I always have to find some opening tool and I have also caused some marks around it.

So a full SIM + SDCard slot would be much better than this 2 SIMs OR 1 SIM + SDCARD method.

I just received my pro1 x, while using it in the dark i missed the keyboard backlight. Is there a trick to turn in on or is it defective?

You may also check if your Pro¹X stays in landscape mode when the keyboard is open while you rotating the device.

Nice! I just received my Pro1X (Black/6GB/128GB) yesterday, just unboxed it today and still haven't played with it much yet.

I do have the original Pro1 and used the hell out of the thing. I installed SFOS, an Arch Linux ARM container and some apps, it's one of my favorite Linux PDA.

I have the 8GB/256GB model of Pro¹X and I am currently using LineageOS on my Pro¹ which I love to use.
Anyway, that is my daily driver and it is in good state - that was the phone I used to take photos / video above. 🙂
Its keyboard is a bit shiny anyway (compared to the matte original looking, however, it is also still in good condition.

I also have a Mobian installed on my Pro¹ (on top of Android) but I still not configured it to an appropriate state. 🙂

  16. Dear Community,

I have just received my Pro¹X yesterday (photoed near a Pro¹):

    image.png.5d6109a532ad17406295902b774056bc.png

Its build quality is absolutely perfect, it has no rattling effect, buttons are even and not too loose (similar to Pro¹).
Its colour is good - I like original black colour but this deep blue also looks good.

    image.thumb.png.b4dc884150e5ac04538b1afd0fc961d1.png

I see there is some room for improvement at software side (and I have not used it extensively), but so far I don't see its radios are significantly worse than Pro¹'s radios (however, there are some improvements yet to be done).

I feel keyboard's backlight is different - either Pro¹X's LEDs are brighter or keyboard's material is more transparent - I think mostly the former.
I also feel this layout is much better than Pro¹'s shifted keyboard style but is more comparable to Pro¹'s QWERTZ layout:

    image.thumb.png.b8645f576a71a084b2f9fd0418f09d72.png

I also have a feeling they have optimized a bit of the keyboard "font" to be a bit bolder for better backlight experience.
However, caps lock's green light is hardly noticeable at my unit.

It's camera can take reasonably good photos.
It is definitively much better than Pro¹'s camera using its stock software and it is a bit worse than Pro¹'s camera using Google's camera software (which has a lot of optimizations).
If Pro¹X would/will also has a similarly optimized software then it may take much better photos than Pro¹ but it is also not bad in its current state (that was an unofficial, 3rd-party app for Pro¹).

However, I don't really like that Pro¹X's camera has a bump, so a proper case would be very welcome:

    image.thumb.png.dd8aa81c828ef6aa2a32f948c363695e.png

Pro¹X's camera button really feels to be a one-stage button (which F(x)tec has confirmed) but Pro¹'s camera button was not felt like a good two-stage button (and also camera softwares did not support it well), so it is not a big difference.

However, I liked Pro¹'s "flash" LED much more than Pro¹X's flash LED as Pro¹ has two LEDs with different colour temperatures (which look to be more natural to eyesight) but Pro¹X only has a cold white (and maybe a bit dimmer) light which may not affect photos as it may be compensated but I have not tested it yet.

My Pro¹'s speakers are a bit louder than my Pro¹X's speaker using Youtube app but it may also happen to be a different setting somewhere.
However, this time the proper speaker is working in handsfree mode unlike with Pro¹ which had the two speakers miswired which was reversed in its kernel driver but it has also caused the handsfree speaker went to the wrong direction (near bottom microphone) causing handsfree problems.

USB-C (USB Type-C) video output is still not working of Pro¹X but I hope it will work in the future.

Here is a video booting Pro¹ and Pro¹X stock systems at once:

I just wanted to share my first thoughts - it is a bit short but I hope you may find it useful. 🙂

Not ALL on git is public... You could easily have a closed channel for developing something, and later either move it to an open channel or make the channel public

yeah, because this is how open-source development usually runs - hidden on non-public channels - before you get too many contributors or peer reviews.. 'cause that's always annoying! 😉

Sometimes it is better to filter unnecessary "noises" around a project till a point it needs more testing and it may have more contributors after a specific point of development...

LineageOS is open-source. If there was any development whatsoever, there would be a branch as well

    Not necessarily.

Even a developer may work on the code locally then release it at a later point in time.
Also it may happen some developers are using a specific repository while developing which you will not find officially.

Sad part is I cancelled my pro1 when the X came out. I could have been enjoying the pro1 for two years....

If you are lucky... otherwise that Pro1 would has been also converted to Pro1X...

    1. Wait an undetermined time to get los19 on the X

    2. Sell my pro1-X and buy a regular pro 1 (prefer the black)

I would still wait for LineageOS... support also did not come too early for Pro1 but it is a much better system.
I hope there are some work in the background and Pro1X will also get official LineageOS support, it would worth a lot.

i think we have to start with a other Point.

I use the Phone since Friday with no Problems by making some longer Calls (1 Hour) and my phone rings everytime so no forwarding to the Voicebox. -> Phonecalls are working

So i think the problem is to search in the type of Networks.

...or around VoLTE / VoWiFi settings.

I also had problems on Pro1 when switched mobile data from one card to another (after doing also an Aeroplane mode on/off switch) that the other card started having problems of receiving/initiating a call because it wanted to also use mobile data but otherwise I did not see VoXXX to be working, however, both cards work well when mobile data was switched to the other service provider (only one of my cards support VoXXX).

So it also worth looking around this setting as the source of such problems.
