So far all the answers here seem to indicate that echo is only related to speaker phone’s acoustic sound feeding back the individual’s original voice back through the receiver’s microphone. While I agree that this can and does happen, the majority of times, the problem actually happens in the communication network where electronic crosstalk (both digital and analogue) sends the delayed sidetone signal back
