DADA 0
I have installed Lineage OS onto my FXtec using cmd by installing ADB tools and FASTBOOT drivers on computer, which was proud win as 1st time attempted to install new OS on phone. I am find the lack of Google Play Services an issue when trying to use some apps (e.g., Google Photos back-up, McAffee TrueKey, British Airways, Google Maps). One suggestion I keep on seeing is to use GApps packages into Magisk. The problem is that I have already installed Lineage OS and set everything up via Aurora Store and F-DROID. My concern was to use Google Apps and detract from the privacy of Lineage OS. So, should we use GApps in 1st instance? Secondly, if ok, how to install Magisk and GApps if everything has already been set up using LOS. Most of the instructions are quite technical, and suggest that this needs to be done on a clean device. So, do I need to start from scratch?
rohit045 0
If you want Google apps like Play Services but still value privacy, a common compromise is using microG instead of full GApps, as it provides basic Google functionality with more control. Installing GApps via Magisk (as a systemless module) is possible but tricky, especially on an already set-up Lineage OS system—it’s generally easier to flash GApps right after installing Lineage OS. Since your system is already configured with Aurora and F-Droid, to install Magisk and GApps now, you'd likely need to reflash Lineage OS, then install Magisk, and then use a GApps module for Magisk (like NikGApps Core or MindTheGapps), or alternatively flash GApps during the OS install process. Starting fresh is usually the most stable path for proper integration. Edited 5 hours ago by rohit045
