Error 7 When Flashing Custom ROM

Recommended Posts

Hi! I've recently bought the Pro1X. I'm posting this thread here in case someone runs into this issue in the future. During my tinkering, I noticed I couldn't flash custom ROMs. I was getting Error 7. I took a look at the logs, and noticed LineageOS (and lineageOS based ROMs like e) look for the metadata/ota directory. This could be a weird bug due to me flashing back to the stock ROM and never having an ota update applied.

How I came about this issue:

  • I tried out Lineage 22 and loved it! However, I had issues with RCS chats due to the increase security checks Google is adding.
  • I looked to get a LineageOS build for 12.1 Seeing that there wasn't one available, I built an unofficial one.
  • While building, I downgraded to stock using the fastboot method to ensure I could still use RCS without needing Magisk. That all ended up fine. I fixed my sensors while I was at it.
  • Once LineageOS 19.1 was built, i was receiving Error 7 when flashing.

Here's what i did to fix the issue!

Follow the LineageOS flash instructions up to booting the recovery:

fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot recovery

Once you're in the LineageOS based recovery, select Advanced, Allow ADB

DO NOT wipe the data

Then run:

adb shell
mkdir metadata/ota

After that, adb sideload the lineageos zip. DO NOT stop the process if the percentage on the terminal sits at 47%. Let the sideload run until there is an error, or an exit status 0 (success!) on your Pro1X.

You can now flash gaps (optional), factory reset, and reboot.

Hope this helps someone!
