Offering my "almost new" Pro1X for sale.  It's 8GB / 256GB, QWERTY / English, blue.  I've had it less than two weeks since delivery from F(x)Tec.  It's been successfully charged (and I'll keep charging it until it finds its new home!), and test-used before I then did a full factory reset.

    Standard Android installed.

As far as I can see it's optically pristine.  Also I'm thowing in a new and unused "FitBag" pouch holder, "Jive Blue** custom tailored sleeve for F(x)Tec Pro1, made in Germany. Fine suit fabric pouch case cover with MicroFibre lining for display cleaning."  **In fact I'm certain it is black, unless it is just veryveryveryveryvery dark blue....  😉

Offers around £450 including UK postage.

I'm in Britain and would prefer to sell within GB, given the joys of Brexit - but if you're elsewhere and especially interested, do feel free to contact me.

And needless to say, if you have any queries, just send me a private message.

Hoping it's OK to quote my own post in the circumstances: After some uncertainty while I was trying to decide whether I might actually want to keep my Pro1X after all (!!), I can confirm this one IS indeed still (again!) available for offers.

My apologies for the delay in getting back to people beforehand, due to the above plus also me having had my site notifications not set properly (facepalm!)...

So yes, feel free to contact me [again!] if interested and/or you'd like to make me an offer...  And I WILL reply this time!!

@749121, thanks for the comment! The new home button/fingerprint sensor setting works fine, and I'll have a look at the BlackBerry app!

Great.  If you have any problems finding / loading / using the BB keyboard app, just give me a shout.

As I wrote a few weeks ago in the Honor Magic V2 thread, I went back to the Titan Slim because the Honor I had finally decided to buy had developed a display problem. Turns out that after using the big screen with an on-screen keyboard for some time, which surely was better than a normal phone, I like the Titan's keyboard more than did before. It's still a major nuisance that the app I'm typing in keeps being swapped into the background every time I inadvertently touch even just the border of the fingerprint sensor + home button, and it's still some nuisance that I don't get all characters I frequently need from the keys, and of course it's a tiny portrait orientation keyboard, not a full-width landscape orientation one, but otherwise I'm actually a little bit happier than used to be when I used the Slim before. Even though it must be something like ten times slower than the Honor... (As I have no information yet where the Honor's repair is going, I'll be continuing to use the Slim for how long it takes.)

    Hi, Rob

The two annoyances you mention can both be quite easily fixed!

For the home / fingerprint sensor, you simply need to alter the setting for it to require a double-tap to go Home.  Sorts the problem completely and permanently, and you get to appreciate fully a fingerprint sensor that in my view is the best I've come across (even works with a damp thumb!).

To get a fully-featured keyboard with all sorts of extended characters, proper multilanguage support and all sorts of useful extra features, all you need do is download the Blackberry keyboard software: it completely revolutionises the Slim keyboard's functionality!

Instructions for how to do both of these things are near the beginning of this thread - I'm a complete numpty and even I worked out how to do it.

Anyway, for me, after about 10 weeks of using the Titan Slim (modified as above!), I have to say it has won me over!

Of course it's not perfect: the screen is a little on the small side for somebody in denial about needing reading glasses, the keyboard is not bad but not as good as the Keys 1 and 2 were, and the camera is mediocre (though Open Camera helps, including giving HDR capability).

However, I actually greatly prefer the classic Blackberry-esque form factor with the smaller keyboard (as against a slider or similar), I like its physical feel and heft, and its generally robust feel (touch wood!), and overall it is very easy to use, with so many of the sorts of shortcuts to streamline your working that I was used to from Blackberry.

While the lack of SD card slot made some bits of the setting-up process a but slower, that and the lack of a headphone jack aren't really issues to speak of, for me.

Frankly, for the price I paid, and the fact that it was an emergency stopgap purchase made in a hurry when my Key2 stopped working and there was no sign of my Pro1X, it's vastly exceeded expectations and I'm expecting to be relying on it for the foreseeable future!

  5. My Pro1X actually did indeed, to my great surprise, arrive on Monday 22 July - to Britain, and I haven't (so far) been asked to pay any import duties or anything.

Mine too had the issue that it would not charge nor turn on, but to be fair on F(x)Tec, they had warned that this might be the case, so I did the "rubber band overnight" trick, and that did  indeed work.  Interestingly, when I got it the seals had been opened.

However.....!!!!  I've actually realised - just a bit ironically! - that I don't think I actually like it very much!!!

Why?  Used as I am to Blackberries, and now to my Unihertz Titan Slim (ironically purchased in emergency while waiting for the Pro1X, because my old Key 2 began failing), I find the Pro1X form factor a bit of a pain to use.  One can't normally, i.e. when not e.g. typing an e-mail or a text etc., have the phone 'open' with the keyboard slid out and the phone in landscape mode....  so effectively you're using a slab phone with no keyboard shortcuts or similar.

But then, when using the keyboard with the phone open, I find it very difficult to type when holding the phone.  I'm used to using my two thumbs to type on the BB-style physical keyboard, but it's pretty difficult to do that on the Pro1X, because you just have to reach too far!  It's a physical strain for my thumbs to have to travel that far...  I suspect that in practice the  keyboard is actually just too big for me!

The fingerprint reader isn't brilliant either - not a patch on the excellent one on the Titan.

In short, I actually greatly prefer the Unihertz Titan Slim for my needs... which is a pretty unexpected, and ironic, outcome...

I guess that, having waited two and a half years, then getting something that I find I don't actually like that much is, well, an interesting lesson in life, and perhaps somehow symbolic...!!

Anyway, I'll be offering mine for sale, presumably via the usual auction site...  though I should say that if anybody would be interested in having mine, feel free to contact me via a private message (I'm in Britain and the phone is QWERTY, 256GB / 8GB spec, and blue).

    An interesting, and educational, experience.....!!!

It's been a month now since their 3/4 claim.

Has anyone got their email for confirming address?

Not I... and this evening my long-suffering Key2 appears finally to have given up the ghost: the keyboard has died!!   I've just ordered a Unihertz Titan Slim from Unihertz's own online shop - I do hope they are reliable (does anybody know??).

My Pro1X (I was a backer) is now just a source of conceptual comedy, though naturally I am quite a large sum of money out of pocket.  If I ever see it (which seems vanishingly unlikely) I'll be putting it straight onto E-bay or the like, as it would be a complete irrelevance...  But I'm sure that is an entirely hypothetical scenario!

Except by the time I get mine it will barely have any value left. As there have been countless threads on here of connecitivity issues, broken promises related to OS development, Expansys having a backdoor deal and people getting phones in only two days from them as opposed to two years for people who actually backed it, perks not being fulfulled in their entirety, and setback after setback with no response from FxTec beyond canned marketing quotes. By the time this phone arrives it will be worthless, its chips were already obsolete when production started. It will be nowhere near the $800+ I paid for the enthusaist bundle (including two replacement screens and a battery that will be long dead when it arrives, neither of which will show up either). This is becoming Mighty No. 9 levels of disaster, overpromise and underdeliver (or in this case, just don't deliver at all).

I've already purchased a new phone in the meantime, so I am now down a total of $1200 just because I wanted a libre phone that worked. Such a shame that XDA attached itself to a project that went this bad this quickly.

I can only say that, as it sounds as though I am pretty much in exactly the same boat as you (I too am over 3,000 in the IGG backers' queue), I feel your pain completely and pretty much agree with the feelings you express here.  But I think the subsequent posters are unfortunately almost certainly right: unless we could prove fraud against Fxtec themselves - which personally I very much doubt they are guilty of and certainly am sure could not be proven even if I'm wrong - we have no real recourse as backers and our money is lost, unless and until we get a phone we can use or can sell, to mitigate our losses.

I'm basically just trying to tell myself that shit happens, and just to let it go and put the whole thing down to experience.  Which is a hell of a lot easier said than done!

  8. Given my IGG no. is well over 3000 (!!!), I think I can whistle for seeing my phone this year.  Not, I hasten to add, that I still actually want it - I'll be keeping my BB Key2 until either it dies or something more up-to-date with a PKB comes along.  But I would like to try and mitigate my losses by selling the PRO1-X while there might still be some market for it.

To say I was disappointed by the latest IGG update is, well, not quite right, as I no longer have any real expectations of Fxtec delivering - but it was still pretty depressing.

By the way, and apologies if it's slightly off-topic, but I was wondering: can anyone recommend a good channel to use to sell a phone privately?   Until recently I wouldn't have thought twice about using E-bay, but these days it's a pretty awful experience as a seller, particularly while E-bay sits on your money post-sale at their leisure!

  9. Have to say, this latest update on IGG (again they've not bothered to e-mail it to backers) is quite spectacularly useless and content-free.  While there  are some possibly slightly outlandish theories that have been been aired on this forum, that's pretty understandable as plainly "something is going on", and FxTec's communications with their backers have been, and remain, frankly atrocious.  I find it hard to blame people for coming to, and voicing, their own conclusions.   It's an object-lesson in how not to handle such matters.

*If* the reason for them failing to explain the situation to us backers is because elements are sub judice, then they can and should simply say that: that of itself would help restore confidence in them amongst in the backer community, but as it is, we can have no faith in what little they are saying.

Anyway, one positive to have come out of this: I have very belatedly realised what an excellent  phone the Blackberry Key2 is!  It's likely that if I ever do receive my Pro1X, it will go straight onto E-bay.......  My one-year-old 128MB Key2 cost about the same as Expansys are charging for a Pro1X, and unlike the latter I can be confident that it works.......

I'm a backer too, and as backers we have invevested, hoping in getting the device cheap. A lot of things has happened since, and I'm amazed that they fight on, and have not just folded. So there is a good chance that our investment are not completely lost.

If people want consumer rights they must do a order/preorder, and not invest in a crowdfunded project, where we take the risks.

I'm sure that's entirely accurate, though for my part I was never motivated by any possible discount on the cost, only to get my hands on what looked like a good device in good time.  Honest information would be nice, though.

Anyway, no great surprises in what I've heard back from Fxtec - firstly:

These are very unfortunate times and this is not how we wanted to fulfil the Pro1 X orders but we have been forced to if we want to please all users.
You have not lost your money at all as we still intend to deliver the Pro1 X to everyone without problems.

    And then subsequently:

Yes we are still posting updates on IGG and you should be receiving them if subscribed.
Yes, since IGG is a crowdfunding platform refunds would not be possible specially at this stage.

As I say, nothing at all unexpected, but I'm most annoyed at the treatment and do feel there's a lack of candour here towards people who, as you rightly say, EskeRahn, have put their own money at risk.  And not good, too, that I've not even got a commitment to check why these updates (which are pretty important even if far from comprehensive) are not getting to us.

  11. I am utterly furious at this latest development.  I too have been - despite complaining to Fxtec about the issue - removed from the IGG updates so had to find out about this via this forum this evening.

I have written to them again asking them what my options as a backer, rather than a website orderer, are - and, candidly, given that I need to buy a new phone NOW*, whether I have essentially lost my money.  Although I used to be a solicitor (!) I am not sure what my legal rights will be if Fxtec do not offer me a refund.

It goes without saying that I have no faith whatsoever that even December has any chance of being met - though that is academic for me, because it is simply too late to be of use.

    * I have had, because my Blackberry KeyOne has worn out (dead battery and failing space bar) had to buy a "cheap" Motorola E20, which is truly horrific and essentially unusable for many of the most important things I use my phone for - in particular, e-mail and text-based use.  It is simply impossible to type effectively on it.

My choices appear to be an incredibly expensive new Blackberry Key 2 (I can't believe how prices have gone up!!), a used version of the same (fingers crossed for the battery to be OK) - or something from Unihertz, which is unknown territory for me.

If I get any reply from Fxtec, I'll post anything of substance here.

@valyo_bg Are you a backer or did you order via Fxtec's website?  I assume the latter?

    • Sad 2
  12. Thanks for the reply.  Bizarre: I never got that update (having checking Inbox, Spam and even Deleted Items!) - so thanks for providing the link.

That however is really bad news.  I must say, the absence of an explanation for the further delay is not clever, and now I gather that not even all of the Batch 1 phones have been despatched, let alone Batch 2!

As I say, I wish I could cancel - certainly I've got my fingers burnt here.

Postscript: I have now written to Fxtec themselves directly and will share any relevant information I get.

  13. Still not a squeak from Fxtec by way of update - this seems, looking through my inbox, to be the longest gap they've left between updates since I 'joined' in January.

Have to admit I'm pretty annoyed now.  If I had ordered rather than being a backer, I would have cancelled my order.   As it is, my old phone now has multiple faults so it looks as though I'm going to have to buy something - and then if/when I ever see my Fxtec. phone, either sell the 'emergency' phone or the Fxtec... probably taking a loss either way.

    Really unhappy!

I guess there must be others in comparable situations?

    • Confused 2
  14. Well, I've still not heard anything by way of shipping info on my phone, and am getting rather concerned.  My "order" was via Indiegogo back on 10 January this year, contribution no. 3773.

In the absence of anything official, is there anybody on the forum who might have any idea what the situation with shipping actually is?

I'd be really grateful for any help - obviously as a contributor rather than a purchaser my rights are limited, soif my existing phone dies and I need to buy another, I won't be in a strong position.

    Thanks...!

  15. Ah, thanks. Well the only number I can find is 3773, which seems a bit high compared to those you give - though I did only "order" in January 2022, which I suppose is much later than many?  Just hoping it's not too much longer because the space bar on my old Blackberry KeyOne is going!!

(Merged your thread into this one,)

Ah thanks, and apologies for the new thread.  Thanks also for the info - I guess we'll just have to see what actually happens as it sounds like a lottery anywhere, not only in the UK...!

  17. Hi

I've just been (belatedly!) wondering... having "ordered" my phone via the IndieGogo campaign and of course paid for the phone and shipping (in USD), is there a likelihood I'll face a demand for import duty or VAT when I receive the phone?  Not sure where it will ship from, but I assume from outside the UK.

I wonder if anyone has any experience of this type of thing?

    Thanks!
