VoWiFi on Freedom Mobile (Canada)

Recommended Posts

Hello, all!

I have the Pro1 working nicely on Canada's Freedom Mobile network.  For those interested, I had to manually select the home network, "Freedom," whilst in a home network service area, then manually select the roaming network, "Nationwide," whilst outside the home network.  After rebooting, the phone remembers the networks, switches automatically and properly identifies the roaming network as a roaming network so that Android's "Roaming Data" setting can be used to control data (Internet and MMS) when outside the home network.

I am having a problem getting VoWiFi working.  According to the Freedom retail location staff member with whom I spoke, VoWiFi was already enabled for the number associated with the SIM card that I am using.  After filling out the e-911 registration form for the number, on line, I received a text message saying that VoWiFi had successfully been provisioned.  However, the VoWiFi options do not appear in the normal Settings menu, and, in the "*#*#4636#*#*" menu, the "provisioned" menu items for VoWiFi, VoLTE and Video Calling are disabled (and "off").

Any ideas?  I have not called 611 yet, hoping that I might be missing something dead simple. :classic_unsure:

I am having the same problem Telstra Australia. To my understanding and countless hours on the phone to tech support. All the settings for VoLTE and WIFI calling are operator specific. The settings are quite complex and not as simple as just punching the settings in.

Telstra had a red hot dip in trying to get it going, including getting me to swap my SIM into a compatible phone.

My last resort is to get Kernel files from a compatible phone, which will put the settings onto my Pro1 but won't guarantee it working. I will post an update when I get around to this point.

Well volte and vowifi are quite complex. If i am not mistaken there are soc based settings that are on some special part of the rom. I think you can get them with some qualcom flashing tools. But first you need a provisioned phone with the same soc and comapatible firmware. 😉 Played around  my moto z... well i failed 😉

I just spent some time with a Freedom Mobile customer service agent (on the phone, of course), and he gave it his best shot to try to activate VoWiFi on my Pro1.  Unfortunately, we could not get any further; the switches are still greyed out, and the option does not show up in the normal menu(s) where it should.  Any other tips?
