For a better picture quality, you can try Gcam ports. Personally I prefer PocoPhone F1 port but the viewfinder is upside down if you select Night Sight. However, the picture is right way in the gallery afterwards. There is also BSG port (with fixed viewfinder) but it does not provide as great picture quality in very dark situations (noise level is bad).

PocoPhone F1 port vs. stock camera app

Deleting cache fixed it. However, due to the grainy image quality, I switched to the google camera app port. The night view thing is upside-down as previously mentioned, but the image quality of photos seems much cleaner. Only annoyance now is that the shutter button is mapped to Snapdragon Camera app directly and there's no way to customize this that I can find. It would be nice to be able to assign this to other apps.

  • EskeRahn changed the title to "Snapdragon camera" default app crashed when switching to video mode [fixed]. Also, shutter button locked to this app.

I am using Remapper app to change camera button mapping. I can't take a photo with pressing the camera button (I would like to know if anyone knows how to remap it), but at least I can launch third-party camera apps with pressing the camera button. Single tap / Double-tap works fine, but the Long press would not work.

Unless the app is 'key aware', my guess would be that the app should expose taking a picture as an "Activity" (sub-part of an app), and then to get the key associated with that.

See e.g. the app "Activity Launcher" that can create a short-cut for an activity, to use as an icon in your launcher. But in offering this, it gives an overview of "activities" available from each app. Unfortunately we only get a name, not a description of the activity, so sometimes it is pure guesswork to search for something interesting...

The snapdragon app offer five "activities", where e.g. OpenCamera only offers one...

So you would need to

  1. Make sure the camera-app you want to use exposes the "Activity".
  2. The KeyMapper does not currently seem to support launch of an "Activity" but as it is open source, I would guess that is fixable OR perhaps you can create a short-cut and use that,

I can just press the lock button twice to open the default camera app via that shortcut, not very important for the shutter button behaviour. I'm more interested in having the shutter button work as expected for the default camera app as in focusing and taking pictures.
