jakfish 148
With this post, I'm hoping to win Most Arcane Question of The Year (So Far) With fxtec pro1x and stock Android 11, I've successfully set up Exagear (a Wine container) to use my beloved Word 97. One has to jiggle a lot of handles in winecfg, but Word 97 does become quite usable except for one strange kb bug: To use either the Backspace or Delete key, they must first be repeatedly pressed to be activated. They eventually work, now with a single press, but from there, any other key press results in a double letter or number, often to the point where the phone must be restarted (this doubling becomes present in any other Exagear program but does not present outside of Exagear). Why? I've tried numerous layouts from FinQwerty to ExKeyMo to stock Android, but no joy. As a workaround, in Word 97, I've keystroked DeleteLastWord to act as Backspace, and I can't imagine there's any answer to this pointless mystery, but I thought I'd throw it out there, anyway. A Happy New Year to all. Edited January 5 by jakfish
Doktor Oswaldo 910
be honest, you are just trying to get the excel 97 flight simulator to work 😄
Hook 3,091
It is true that the menu bar is not customizable though everything is there. Adding a customizable button bar doesn't take that much room for often used features.
jakfish 148
Another nice thing about TM is that it works with the pro1x's kb and gboard's predictive-text-only bar. There's no predictive text when typing in Wine. For some reason, TM on my Fold 3 has a difficult-to-reach File on its menu bar, so it takes several gropes to bring it up (one reason I returned to Word 97). On the pro1x, it's much more accessible, as your screenie shows; it's further from the left screen edge. That, and alt-f works on a physical kb, anyway. On Android 11, Word 97 does give more screen real estate than TM--Android's status bar is hidden but can be brought up with swipe-left, and it conveniently disappears after two seconds. (but you're using a current lineage, so immersive mode may be available again. Android 11 doesn't play nice with 3rd-party immersive apps)
jakfish 148
The Delete key works after all. I must've been drinking yesterday.
jakfish 148
So it's the Backspace key that is the culprit in Wine/Prox1. Delete key didn't work yesterday because I had chosen, in Keyboard layouts, to make it a Backspace key. Once I disabled that, the Delete performed with a single press and with no subsequent doubling of characters/numbers. Googling has found similar complaints in other Wine setups, but here, I'm thinking that it's because of the hardcoded Pro1x ability to swap the Delete key for a Backspace. But what do I know, having turned my back on Dry January 🙂
jakfish 148
I know everyone has had their breath bated: "None of us can sleep until we discover why, oh, why the Backspace won't work in the Pro1x/Exagear/MS Word 97." External Keyboard Helper proves to be the oracle. Installing EKH and selecting that as the on-line keyboard somehow returns the Backspace to all its glory of erasure. I can't even begin to imagine the forum's relief 🙂 2
