Yeah, that was exactly what I came to realize. I wanted to give it a try, as said, to give my funding for the Pro1 X campaign some sense. I still think the campaign anf Pro 1X is cool, despite all the struggles they and we went thru. But I already run a Astro Slide with Termux X11 on Android there, and that works surprisingly well, without me being forced to jump thru hoops getting, e.g., 2FA banking apps to work, which simply run on main Android. Also, in the past maybe two years, I found myself using the keyboard, Linux environment less and less, so there is really no point for me to ev4 points

Newest unofficial LineageOS16.0 (for SD835 Pro1) is available. At https://findus.zwergenschaenke.net/~puma/linux.html#lineagepro1 get the ROM dated 20241116. Changes since last month: Backported security fixes up to the "1 November 2024" ASB. Update system webview and browser to Chromium 130.0.6723.73. Have fun.4 points

F(x)tec has been surprisingly communicative over email. They also sent me a replacement display cable after the display swap didn't fix it, and I'm going to try installing that.4 points

Honestly, I usually just wait for official as, in part, the unofficial odd solutions ones include much bigger Gaps packages.3 points

Thanks @claude0001 and to the whole forum. I went from stock Android to Ubuntu Touch and back, without rendering my device (even more) useless. And while Ubuntu on a phone is nice, it really is far less powerful then I have imagined. No Firefox, no Thunderbird, ages away from running docker ... it sure works, it's also actually nice, but by no means could that ever be my daily driver in that setup. Still, as I waited almost 4 years for this device, I wanted to give it a try. At least I squeezed out the guide, hoping this is helpful for another lost Linux-Phone person out there.3 points

Lineage-21-20241125-NIGHTLY-pro1x with November 1st security patch installed smoothly via OTA. MindTheGapps14, and root was maintained. Despite the date, if it showed up on Monday, it wasn't until I went to bed, but it was there this morning. Last weeks was similar, but it did show up before I went to bed. NBD, but just odd to release it so late in the day.3 points

Will be 5 years for me December 10th. My Pro1x is actually my daily driver... I like the keyboard better—as a writer, the key mapping for punctuation is better, and I don't do anything that challenges the weaker SOC. But I love my Pro 1 and use it for experiments. Right now experimenting with Google Free Lineage. Both work ok as phones, but I don't use either that way. I have a Pixel 7 Pro which is my phone and point and shoot camera and has all my sensitive bank type stuff. Everything else is on my rooted Pro1x, which means I am using my Pro1x 95% of the time. This. That's precisely why I gave up on all those alternative OSes that are said to be more "Linux-like" than Android but, actually, are just AOSP piggybacking another UI via libhybris. Like you, I settled early for a combination of (Google-free) LineageOS and a chrooted Debian Linux install, giving me native access to the huge Android ecosystem of apps. Unfortunately, the latter is just necessary nowadays. On the bright side, I can cover almost all my needs with FLOSS Android apps. Installing some alt OS that claims to be "real Linux" but, actually, runs on a containerized vers2 points

As with the post I made above, people are not going to be able to help you unless you provide details. Do you have a Pro 1, which is what this thread is for, or do you have a Pro1x, for which this is the wrong procedure? What OS was on your phone before you began? What are you trying to do and what are the exact steps you have tried. What are you trying to accomplish.2 points

@raymo I fully agree to the 'practical use' comment. During my "active" time, trying to use it as a daily driver, with the specific Pro1X I still own, it was far away from anything like what most people would see as 'practical use', but for some time most of the basic phone stuff – in addition to the keyboard usage I bought it for – somehow worked – but only as long as I carried a small mobile router that gave me WiFi wherever I went, and with Voice over WiFi enabled to at least be able to do calls, however bad the voice connectivity was. It seems each individual Pro1X was a surprise pac2 points

We probably need more information. First, this is for the Pro 1, not the Pro1x. Since this is your first post and you provide no information, just wanted to make sure you understood that, The instructions for the Pro1x is here: Second, if you are asking about flashing Stock Android, I am left to assume you are on another OS such as Lineage. In which case, your bootloader is already unlocked as bad things happen if the bootloader is locked on another OS.2 points

wow, that's already 5y ! in my case it's about 4½y, and still use it every day with the original Android OS, v9 i believe. because of that i can't install one or two other apps i would need, notably Leica's FOTOS app. ithe Pro1 has its quirks, just like the N900 had it. it's a shame that no big player phone maker produces such a thing - while for a tiny little company like Fxtec it's quasi impossible to come out with a perfect mature product. anyway, i love my Pro1 as it is, and use it every day...2 points

No worries, the gnss satellite navigation systems cost tens of thousands so you can go much more expensive for a car GPS :P. I've heard the phone call quality issues before but I've not personally had the issue.2 points

Agree to both of that. And waiting 5+ years for that phone has had one nice side effect – it has increased my patience 😉 (Getting a Pro1 and two Pro1 X from other sources in between did help there, of course; on the other hand, I haven't had an actually usable Fxtec phone for quite some time now.)2 points

I'm indiegogo contributor instead. Just for the record, I had been told earlier that website orders would be shipped "at a leater date" (than Indigogo orders), and now I asked again with their Indiegogo orders reported as done, and I just got the answer "very soon I expect". For Indiegogo backers who didn't get their device yet, I suspect only contacting support can help. But be patient, they can be really slow, and don't send "several emails"; their ticket system has been said to bump a case back to the end of the queue when a follow-up email comes in.2 points
-
I don't know if it has any answers, but you might look at some of the discussions in this thread: It is mostly a discussion about the Pro1, but towards the end of the thread there is also discussion of the Pro1x. It may not resolve anything, but will give you an idea of what has been tried and with what degree of success.2 points

It might help if you gave more information on where you are at and what you need help with. For instance, have you looked at and tried to follow the instructions here? https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/pro1x/install/ They are actually pretty clear instructions. If you don't understand or are uncomfortable with the instructions, chances are you shouldn't do it. Take your time to read everything carefully and then maybe ask specific questions on what you don't understand.2 points

I've had three - the one that came with the phone and 2 Aliexpress replacements. The original had 2 tiny black marks in the corners. The first replacement was flawless. Then the phone fell out of my pocket as I got out of a van and that screen shattered when it hit the ground...the next replacement had one large black spot in a corner. It seems to be that the black spots are areas of dead backlighting, you can still just barely see the content especially in dark rooms with the backlight near minimum.2 points

Why not to dicuss on a forum? I think that it is meant for that. And it was partly a joke, humour! I thought that it was obvious. But jokes aside. Snapdragon 6s 4G gen1 only has a minor frequency boost compared to SD662. So, it is basically very much the same SoC. That can help Pro1-X owners since Qualcomm might support SD662 for longer period. And even if it does not, then developers can look SD 6s gen1 source code when they develop custom ROM like Lineage OS to Pro1-X, since to SoCs are so similar. Sorry for popping that up...1 point

Did you know that Pro1-X has a "Next Gen Chipset"? Qualcomm just upgraded the SoC of Pro1-X 😂. It is no longer SD662. You can call it Snapdragon 6s 4G gen1 now! https://x.com/technomania0211/status/1822334673273376775? https://www.qualcomm.com/products/mobile/snapdragon/smartphones/snapdragon-6-series-mobile-platforms/snapdragon-6s-4g-gen-1-mobile-platform1 point

Neither did I, but I explicitly told them to forget about the earphones they offered as a replacement as I have no use for them. Might just as well be that they've run out of the earphones, now, too... Should I really get that phone *and* decide to keep it, I still have another, partly damaged Pro1X that I got earlier, so I could salvage its battery if must be. Otherwise, the thread @Hook linked to does seem promising.1 point

@Hook thanks for your comment. I indeed misinterpreted the restore parts of that thread, I thought the warning under (1) would also apply to the section "Repair sensors/ folder in persist.img" (2), but now after re-reading, I am pretty sure you are right, that are two totally different things. I could go the "restorecon" way, I even could dig up a Windows machine somehow, but not too familiar with that OS anymore ... I will ponder a bit more, on how to proceed. I always wanted to have "Convergence", i.e., run all my tools on one machine, and one machine only, but I doubt that I wo1 point

I wish I were that person or anyone actually qualified to help (I'm strictly a lineage guy), but I do reasonably believe that using the QFIL method of reflashing stock Android 11 should work as it is capable of working even with bricked Pro1xs (in theory-- I have never done it.) I know it worked recently with someone who mistakenly flashed stock Android 9 for the SD 835 Pro1 on a Pro1x resulting in not being able to even boot. So, all I'm doing is pointing to something that might (in theory) work without being able to say how much of a gamble it is. If you have a Linux computer, the1 point
