  1. i started using keyboard phones many years ago, the Nokia N900 for over 10y actually, then it died on me, just when the Fxtec Pro1 surfaced at the right time.  i am still happily using the Pro1 daily as a phone and camera, and then for WireGuard with TERMUX under the original Android 9 OS, so that Apps such as Leica's FOTOS or SONOS continue to run.  over its lifetime i had to replace twice its touchscreen and something else i don't recall now - and i guess i was lucky that i received all those parts and the phone itself always in reasonable time and also had the necessary supportive email communcation with the company.  i am truly sad for them, what a bad luck, bad timing.  let's hope my Pro1continues to live for a few more years though the last nail on its coffin will be the usual end of life time issue with Android and Apps running on it...

  2. i had quite some email exchange with somebody called Francisco at Fxtec end of july last year (2023) when i had to replace (a second time) the OLED screen on my Fxtec Pro1.  so that all went fine for me, in that matter at least.

i luckily kept my 6%-broken touchscreen (A) from 3y ago which i had at that time replaced with this current one (B) - which just broke a few hours ago...

now, inserting that old just partially broken screen (A) seems to work as before, the upper 6% of the screen are non-responsive as before but at least i can use large parts of the screen !!!  i may be able to live with that for the time being - while i will be waiting for a new spare part (C).  so, in sum, it's not the worst case scenario this way...

anyway, i will be waiting patiently to hear back from Fxtec support team !

so, just to get back to you - i received today my new screen for the Pro1. switching the screens was easy.  the new screen works like a breeze, 100% responsive touch surface, OLED fine too, though the included screen protector foil is somewhat useless.  let's hope the box will work for another few years till they come out with the Pro2 (hopefully).  i still use the original stock Android version.  it's just that cursed finger print reader that drives me crazy at times.  things otherwise work as expected (camera, phone, signal, Wireguard VPN, Termux).  so, ende gut, alles gut !  i may now calmly start my vacation trip in 2 days...

  5. thank you, Hook, for your feedback !  i just dismantled the screen, detached the flex cable, reattached it again, closed the thing - but no change, no touchscreen input !

i wrote now the Fxtec support team and requested a new Pro1 screen - i hope they still have spare parts !!!  then i will need it to arrive in the coming 10days or so.  i feel i am asking for the impossible...?

  6. and now it hit me too - again, actually a second time : it's not that it cracked but the screen just stopped working, out of the blue !  it doesn't pick up finger taps, just my keyboard inputs.  i am going to check now if perhaps a loose cable is responsible for that - otherwise i am a bit lost what to do...i am leaving for a trip to Europe soon and need some sort of a phone, right ?  but who knows how long it would take to get one of those new Pro1-X phones ?  months, years, never...?

Is it under stock OS or Lineage?

My Pro1 became highly better after switching to LineageOS...

stock Android OS - i need to run Wireguard, Signal and Leica Fotos,  and i don't think they are supported on the alternative OSes that FxTex may run on.

i used in the past for a mere 10yrs a Nokia N900 where with that one support for various non-stock software just sucked...till finally the Pro1 surfaced :)

  8. similar issues here - my Pro1's fingerprint reader system works quite erratically and can change its behaviour on an hourly basis.  moreover, at times the reader appears dead, but while i push the central button the screen lights up and looks unlocked just to turn black again due to the middle button press, very annoying !  sometimes it works as expected, and then i am each time pleasantly surprised.  it's totally unpredictable though one can be sure that when i am in a hurry it will not work, dafke.....

in any case, i love the phone, don't want anything else, strangely :)

The indicator light is on but it just doesn't charge sometimes. A couple tries fixes it. (but yeah it's possible I got some gunk in there as well)

same issue here - need then to re-attach the charger cable.  i usually check now on the screen if the percent power left is increasing after a minute or so of charging...

  10. i am using an Fxtec Pro1 with Bell Canada for the last 1.5 year or so - in contrast to my old Nokia N900 which didn't work with Bell but with Rogers instead.

in any case, the Fxtec works perfectly well with Bell.

  11. nop, the TOP PART is in place, it's fine for the last year or so.  at that time i had to exchange the touch screen which works right ever since.

but what definitely and robustly improved (no random behaviour) is the CALL VOLUME function for calls via SIGNAL. my ear drums finally don't get anymore perforated when i answer or do a call with SIGNAL.   but i believe i still have no control whatsoever over call loudness when speaking over the REGULAR phone service.

and what also seem to work reliably is the LED NOTIFICATION LIGHT, as said earlier, in terms of color control and actual blinking for new messages or calls.

it's mainly the NOTIFICATION SOUND that works erroneously, on and off.

  12. i began using a few days ago SIGNAL for all SMS/phone/video calls with my FxTec Pro1 - and, voilà, miraculously and finally, the LED notification light and related notification sound for incoming SMS messages started to work as expected, meaning the LED color is now adjustable and the (media) volume for the related audio beep also, from muted to actually quite loud !  and it seems to work reliably for days - as compared as to the previous scenario where these settings kept changing or stopped working entirely till the next reboot.   anyway, SIGNAL-app for Android did it for me, not to speak about the privacy and security benefits this software comes with.   just wanted to share this with the crowd...

  13. and i love my Pro1 too : i forgot to write this to this audience on the 4th of february.  that's when i had made a first foto with that Snapdragon, a year earlier.  i must have received the phone a day before or so.  a full year went by, wow !

  14. i just replaced my screen a few days ago - wasn't hard at all, see here. i followed for that TeZdevice's advice here.  you can do it in less tan half an hour.  my screen & digitizer worked thereafter flawlessly.

the reboot also brought back some sound effects such as the glang when charging - which implies that Android isn't as stable as a full-fledged unix box.  my linux-based Nokia N900 was rock-stable and robust with uptimes up to a year or so...

  15.

TeZtdevice, your advice was greatly appreciated - i replaced the original screen of my Pro1 and the new screen works flawlessly, or let's say, the upper 1/6 part of the screen started to be responsive again !  that's fantastic because apps like SONOS or FOTOS cannot be rotated and do not allow landscape mode.  now i am able to reach reach again the apps' settings buttons.

of course i also very much appreciate Fxtec's support service that sent me this replacement part for free !

  16. i first wrote to Fxtec 2020-02-15, got a first answer 4 days later, was asked 2020-02-24 if i preferred a new screen to install myself or a repair service with Fxtec, and was confirmed 2020-02-26 to receive a new screen in the coming weeks - which arrived indeed yesterday, after all this covid hassle.   so i am perfectly happy with their service.

now i only need the video HOWTO to replace the Pro1 screen...

ADDON : issue of switching screens solved :  see here

  17. perhaps you only need a new screen digitizer - see here and here !

by the way, that's quite a coincidence, i just received today two hours ago a new back part for the phone base which i suppose holds that digitizer parts that malfunction in my Pro1.  with phone base i mean the part that holds the keyboard.  anyway, now i need to get that video with the instructions how to replace the faulty piece with this new one.  will keep you posted...

CORRECTION : i actually had received last night the screen part from the Fxtec support team !  now i just need their HOWTO video ...

  18. regarding hardware issues : i am experiencing trouble with the screen digitizer (see an earlier quote of mine and others' too) and then with that infamous fingerprint reader, again as others...  the fingerprint scanner and the associated software work essentially at random, i have no clue how to improve hit rate...

otherwise i am more than happy with the Pro1 - but i am at the same eagerly awaiting an OS update too !
