  1. Hi, I hope this doesn't count as a hijack, but I'm in a similar situation where I need to get some files off my old Pro1 as a one-off process but the USB port is dead.

I see that I can buy a Mi 6 battery for about £7 - do you think they're likely to come with some charge (as I won't be able to recharge it!)? If it did, I would hope it would last long enough for me to do the retrieval, and also do a factory wipe afterwards.

Alternatively, is anyone willing to loan me a replacement Pro1 USB PCB? Happy to pay a few GBP for postage to me and back again!

In all fairness towards Boe, it seems to be related to stress on the cable. Sure if the cable-construction had been more sturdy, then the mount would have been less critical.
I have no idea if the display comes with very strict mount guides of the fragile cable-construction. If not, the blame is on Boe. If there is a  guide that is not followed, the blame is on FxTec.

    Sorry, who is Boe?

Boot into recovery and view /tmp/recovery.log. This is an option under advanced. CRTL keys are used as pageup/pgdown

I don't seem to have either an advanced option or an option to view recovery.log. Remember that I'm on stock.

Did you try the keys during boot/ recovery? Wouldn't be the first time it was software related...

I'm not sure how I would do that?

One reason I think it's hardware is because at first the problem was intermittent, and pressing the key harder seemed to work, but now it doesn't work no matter how hard I press.

I'll open it up at some point, when it's less hot!

  5. Both the left and right Ctrl keys don't respond on my Pro1 😢. I'm on stock Android 9, and I'm pretty sure this is a hardware rather than software problem. All other keys are fine.

Any ideas what to look for? I'm happy to open it up.

  6. I opened up my Pro1 in order to reconnect the fingerprint cable. After I put it back together, I found this little bit of metal (about 4mm long) on my work area. I assume this came out of the Pro1. I found it quite hard to open up the phone so don't relish doing it again just for "fun", so I wondered if anyone had any idea what it's for and if it's very important!

  7. I've been having the exact same problem with my touchscreen, with a line across the screen not responding to real touches (or showing ghost touches) in the same place as others have seen. It's strange that it's always in the same place...

I have received a new screen from Aliexpress which seems to work in a quick test.

Side-by-side, old screen on left, new on right:

image.thumb.png.92b6727068c4a943158b2386bab76dc5.pngDoes anyone know what I need to do to make the back of the new screen similar to the old? If I pull off the current protective covering off the new, it reveals the copper-coloured backing seen around the edge of the old, which is good, but do I need something to replicate the large black covering, or the metallic tape near the bottom?

    I tried this:
Held the power button in for about five-six seconds, while still holding I held volume down in for an additional about two-three seconds, and it seems to turn off!
And it does so in such a deep way that it needs a very long press (about six seconds) on the power button to come back on.....

Note that if you hold in both too long the logo re-appear, but it still ends in the deep Off state in my experiments....

That function was new to me..... I was not even aware that a deep off mode existed....
I actually attempted to see if I could get it to boot into the bootloader menu staying at the same item, so I could roll down to Power Off in a predictable way....

Many thanks for this, although I when I try this it seems to always restart, not shutdown. I'm running stock Android if it matters.

As it happens, I just trained myself to stay away from the power button while fiddling with the device!

  9. Hi. I need to disassemble the bottom keyboard part of the phone, as my fingerprint reader is no longer working (I'm assuming the cable has disconnected), but I'm stuck at the point where I need to prise the outer shell off.

I have removed the screen part OK and undone the five screws but none of my prising tools are having any effect. Any tips from people who have done this?

Also, I keep on accidentally turning the thing on by pressing the power button! Is there any way to reliably turn it off "blind" (without reconnecting the screen)? Holding down power for a long time seems to cause a reboot rather than a shutdown. I have to reconnect the screen and shut it down properly whenever I accidentally power it on!

  10. I've seen a couple of references on the forum to an official Fxtec Pro 1 Service Manual v1.0, but the links seem to be dead. Has anyone got a working link for this, or able to upload it maybe as an attachment in the forum, or somewhere permanent like archive.org?
