Build in launcher discussions

Recommended Posts

I just tried swiftkey.  I was hoping/expecting aosp keyboard and/or gboard would provide suggestions once we were set to alpha, as thats what the documentation seems to imply.  However, it doesn't seem to be doing it so far (under lineage which sets it that way), so I finally gave swiftkey a try.

Swiftkey seems alright so far for suggestions, but one looses the emoji and symbol keyboard shortcuts available in aosp/gboard.

So if I wanna type £ with aosp/gboard I could press sym then select it on-screen, but cannot with swiftkey.

Fortunately, I can still longpress $ and select it on screen.

hi all....have anyone backup of stock rom launcher apk?

If I remember correctly I tried to use it on Lineage without any luck... (it is a variant of the AOSP com.android.launcher3 available here)

ADD: Just (re)tried. The APK does not load on neither LineageOS 19.1 nor AICP R

I have a "Quickstep_com.android.launcher3.apk" saved on 2020 may 21 - may that be what you search for?

This is the info I see on it. (ignore the old stamp, other system stuff reports the same)

Based on its file size, it may be the same version as mine. 🙂

I am practically never used it - I have always used Nova Launcher instead.

Have Nova Launcher finally found a better way of handling landscape than compress and stretch of portrait (like most other launchers also do)

It practically displays the same applications for me but using bigger gaps in-between and I have a bigger clock which is smaller in landscape,

I think there are widgets which keeps aspect ratio and smaller height causes smaller width in landscape while there are others (like Simple Calendar) which stretches.

However, I can live with it (I don't have problems) but N900's solution, which used different settings for portrait and landscape mode, was better.

Overall I have found Nova suits for me the best of launchers and I like that I can lock "desktop" automatically which can be unlocked using a long press of an item, then picking to unlock... easy dragging of items was my biggest problem of N900's desktop.

No doubt that Nova is smart with many features. Which only makes it even more odd that they (still) do not offer a more advanced solution for Landscape/Portrait. As for quite a number of years aspect ratios in the ball park of 2:1 has been very common on slabs.
One offer could be individual settings, another could be to to offer the 2x1 vs 1x2 mode that our stock launcher offers.
(The flip-side of the later being that widgets obviously can not generally cross the border between the two 'halves')
