Tsunero 215
Was looking around Ali and found this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005062900944.html Seems a bit too cheap to be true, or are these screens this cheap nowadays? I managed to nuke my Pro1 in the most stupid way. I put it down on the bathroom counter (not even half a metre height) and while I was doing other stuff it slid off and planted face fist into the floor. Rip (the black blobs I already had for a while, I just refer to it as screen cancer, they just popped up randomly one day, but I had busted corners with black spots from day 1) So yeah, I am not too sad about it and will repair. I am planning to get a new phone but not yet. 😄 Edit: Meanwhile I ordered that replacement, if things go wrong there is buyer protection anyway. Hook 3,034
No the screens have always been fairly inexpensive and this one is even available with the proper frame (I believe, I have one in the closet but haven't had the need to install it). And you are lucky, as you have the Pro 1. The new screen will have a non-responsive area around the edges. You'll need to reinstall stock Android 9 and that will fix it because one of the updates included that patch that is needed. Unfortunately, that means you will have to wipe everything. At least I think so. You had to with the Elephone U Pro screens, which are the same screen. We still no real solution for this problem on the Pro1x other than having a Pro1 around to flash the screen with and then transferring it to the Pro1.

Tsunero 215
Just now, EskeRahn said: (They are sold out.... ) Looks like only the one with frame is sold out, but I can reuse the existing frame fine, just a bit more work according to the repair videos I saw. I was able to place an order for the screen itself.

Thanks for chipping in, I actually don't mind that. (but I always ran stock on this, so maybe the "issue" won't be present?

zikad 3
Could you clarify whether a factory reset required after installing the new screen? Or will the existing phone just keep working?
EskeRahn 5,464
@zikad Well it will keep working BUT there is an issue with the outer edges being non responsive to touch with the screens we can find on AliExpress. The only KNOWN method we got to fix this touch issue Is to mount on a Pro1 (not Pro1X) and re-flash that....

I don't think so, I found a video where this guy replaces the screen and the new one "just works" although he did not check for dead zones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnUxhqO274Y
elinaED 1
In a person's thinking, the answer addresses concern about compatibility. They seek reassurance that the phone will function normally after the screen replacement without needing a. reset.

I ordered two screens from AliExpress, and will install them and see whether that is acceptable. 14 hours ago, Tsunero said: I don't think so, I found a video where this guy replaces the screen and the new one "just works" although he did not check for dead zones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnUxhqO274Y Thanks for confirming! 1
AndytheNoob 36
Yo folks, I have just replaced the screen on my Pro1 with one from Ali-Express, so I now have that weird lack of sensitivity at the edges. Can someone please talk me through flashing the device to fix it? Is there a way of doing it without losing all my data? Hope someone can help! Thanks

Just Fastboot flash stock. You don't have to set up stock, Just flash it and sign in. I'm pretty sure the version of stock you download, from August 2020 was the latest update so it should have the patch. You may not even have to sign in, but I have always done that to be sure it was a proper install. Then reflash Lineage. And, yes, it means you have to re-setup Lineage-- there is no way to patch Lineage properly. The patch is built into stock. Annoying amount of work because no proper backup. Lineage is supposed to have seedvault, but I have no experience with that. Still, it's pretty easy on the Pro1.

Just to be absolutely clear. Let me repeat that we ONLY got this fix using an old Pro1, and NOT the Pro1X. AFAIK, once the patch have been applied using an old Pro1, the display should work on a Pro1X too, but of course it would require a Pro1 to be disassembled and used for the purpose.
