EskeRahn 5,460
https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Android-Conditioner-Control-Warmword/dp/B07DSV5NZD A nice idea in principle, but perhaps something like this would be better for a home environment: https://www.irdroid.com/irdroid-v2/ The dongle looks quite large, and the risk of breaking the usb-port sounds like a high risk for the functionality.. Woow, looks good, they offer even a WiFi version, that sounds convenient for me! :) Better than IRport
damion 60
What is really needed is a BT/WIFI->IrDA device which sits in range of your TV and STB devices, and is permanently plugged in so you don't lose it. You can continue to use your normal remote, and occasionally lose it (See also: https://www.thetileapp.com) then switch to the phone which can use a simple app which talks to the ir-blaster and works as you expect. Both my TV and STB (linux box with mythtv) acutally support network (wifi) protocols to control stuff so I'm fine anyway, but it would be nice to have control of arbitrary older IR devices. It would also be nice to have radio transmission as you could with the n900 (complete with RDS for showing which song is playing) and many other features phones have had over the years... But we'd probably end up with an Edsel
