SteffenWi 139
Hi, so now that I can finally start using the phone, the USB connector has given out on me. I tried two different USB cables that both work on my previous phone and the best I get is that the battery is being charged. Neither in the boot menu (via fastboot), nor in recovery mode nor in 'normal' mode does the phone react to being connected to the USB cable, except sometimes as said above it starts charging but usually just the LED light on the top right comes on without the battery charging. My computer doesn't show device in any of those cases, not even a failed USB connection. Has anyone encountered this issue and solved it somehow? *edit* If I push the cable in a bit harder than usual it connects...usually. But I don't think the USB port will accept that for long. *edit 2* update from the bottom, here too: My fault. Metal piece was stuck in the USB port. Tech/support were able to get it out. _DW_ 628
I had this issue with a particular cable today that works on another phone. I used a Nintendo switch controller charge cable instead and it was fine. One difference is the other cable isn't flush when connected the Nintendo one is so maybe connector length related.
DieBruine 397
So, if you get the same response with the stock cable and charger, your USB connector is toast. Good luck with getting that repaired in a reasonable amount of time... Turn your phone off. Does it respond in the same manner? Would be strange if it was due to your recent flash. But alas, I have seen stranger things... Edited July 21, 2020 by DieBruine
SteffenWi 139
Yeah I don't think my latest flash did this 😉 . This is definetly some kind of hardware issue as if I push the cable in with a bit more force I get a solid connection. But that requires more force than what I deem 'neccessary'. MickH 211
Could be the issue outlined in _DW_'s reply or at worst you've got a dry joint on the where the USB port is soldered to the board. If it's the cable problem then go through every cable you have (if you've bought a lot of tech gear in the past, like me you should have a few lying around). But a quick question. You haven't got the phone in a case, have you?

FlyingAntero 871
Also, check that there is not dirt or fluff in the port that could cause problems.

SteffenWi 139
So, I went through 3 USB cables that all work and the charger I have. None of them work, unless I force it in and then don't touch the phone. At all, because all of them slip out very easily as well. I can still feel the slight 'bump' that should hold the cable in place when connected, but it just doesn't. The USB port is - sadly - clean, no lint. And all of those cables work just fine with the phone I've been using for the past 4 years: My Moto Z Play. That has never even seen the inside of a case 😉 Which brings me to the next point: No, I do not have a phone case. But, until yesterday I haven't used the Pro1. At all. The only things I've done is occassionally flash a new LineageOS testbuild by tdm, flashed the stock image from FXTec once to check something and once tried out SailfishOS. That's it. Outside of that the phone has been in the pouch that came with the phone and has been lieing on my desk between my keyboard and my monitor the entire time (USB port facing outwards). If I had to give an estimate, on the very safe side, I would say I connected a USB cable to this phone less than 100 times. If I had to guess based on what I flashed: There were 22 test builds, I didn't flash each one of those, mainly because the german keyboard layout issue prevented me from using the phone and I didn't have the time to actually help with that. So, lets say I flashed 2/3rds of the images provided (22*0.667), add a few times where I forgot to flash GApps (+7), add the SailfishOS and stock image flash (+2), the initial charging of the phone (+1), copying files to the phone yesterday (+2), mucking about with adb (+5) and you get ~32 connects. And it stopped working on the 32nd connect attempt. Edited July 22, 2020 by SteffenWi

It sounds to me as you need to contact support. 😥 With no dirt, my guess would then be a bad soldering. Luckily the USB-plug is not on the main board, so it should be a rather small operation to change the board.
kashif 350
Well its happened to my Nokia E7s all the time. after every few months the cable will not connect. so i will push it harder and it will work for few times and then pushing harder wont work either. basically it the beginning of the end of the usb port. and then i had to get the usb port replaced from the workshop. Didn't someone posted that its easy to get usb port replaced from any workshop? 1

It should be if you have the right part. But even without a new board with a little luck it is 'just' the soldering, so a technichian can resolder the plug on the board. SteffenWi 139
Yeah I'll contact support later today. I don't really want to take the phone apart as long as there is warranty on it 😉

SteffenWi 139
So, I got my phone back a few weeks ago and it was my fault all along. Apparently some metal thingi got stuck at the bottom of the USB port and the tech had to dig that out. Their best guess is that it came from a USB cable. I checked the fxtec cable, which was fine, and two cabls I tried after the phone wouldn't connect anymore. None of them have damages I can detect - then again, I didn't find that metal piece either. Advice to anyone having a similar problem: Be thorough when checking the USB port. 1
