If I understand it correctly, this happens because some firmware or parameters of the touchscreen has to be updated for the margins to be correct. There's a thread about it somewhere on the forum...
It can be fixed by either:
- reflashing stock firmware (which does the magic on first boot)
- some illusive app which only works as root (you'd have to ask fxtec or someone else who has it to get that)
I remember you got your device only a month ago or so. What's wrong with your screen? Just asking ...
About that APK for installing the required firmware: Is it (legally?) impossible to put that up somewhere for public download? It will certainly be of interest to many sooner or later. People replacing their screens will typically want to avoid reflashing their phones to stock and back just to get the replacement screen working.
If you look carefully at the keys with secondary print in yellow (and green), with strong light falling in the exact right angle you will see a square 'bulging' up. So I concluded the keys consists of
a transparent base
a layer of white paint
on some keys a coloured square field (painted or a sticker?)
a black layer where the missing paint generates the symbols,
(there might be a transparent protective layer on top)
The US shifted QWERTY clearly uses the same base as the German QWEERTZ as the areas that bulges are the same, no matter if it is black on qwertY i
Note that (as mentioned earlier) there aren't that many yellow 'labels' mounted currently, so this layout would require more than 'just' a different top black layer print.
(It is not conflicting though, but would require a change with more yellow 'labels'. that would just be hidden under the black for existing layouts.)
a week ago I replaced my screen with one of unknown origin. Everything seemed to work just fine until I realized that it can't detect taps on the edges anymore.
activating show pointer location indicates that I can slide all way out, just not tap.
saw something about this on the forum, but can't find it now, is it possible to solve?
I had this same problem with mine, disassebled the phone and fixed the cable connecting the USB board to the main board properly in place, tada no more problem. Probably had come loose when i have dropped the phone. I thought about the port becoming loose too but it itself seemed very sturdy and not easily breakable like it was in E7.
A black spot of 3mm diameter, after dropping the phone, hitting a wooden floor hard with the display facing downwards. Doesn't make the phone unusable, but at some point I'll want to replace the screen. Already bought two replacement screens, one for spares...
Good question.
