Thanks everyone! Found it. Unlocked bootloader. Should have checked (and re-locked) before spending the better half of Sunday to set the phone up 😉 With the perspective of moving to LineageOS sooner or later, I guess I'll just leave it unlocked for now...

While I cannot fully exclude HW malfunction as the primary cause, I still pretty much doubt it. And I have found a "workaround" for this weird bug. Well, workaround... Lets just say I discovered a bit less annoying way of unlocking the phone instead of typing my whole PIN. When the phone is locked, I press the power button, which lights up the screen. From there I have the option to click on "emergency call". Then I place my thumb on the fingerprint reader and press "back" on the screen, as If I changed my mind and I don't need to make an emergency call. At that point the fingerprint read

As in the title. The standard method is TWRP, but, as far as I know, TWRP for the Pro1 only supports SailfishOS and doesn't support LineageOS or /data decryption (aka device lock). In a nutshell, I want to try be able to clean flash a ROM and be able to revert to my current setup without hassle.

Considering asking for refund too ...
