  1. It's really hard to get elephone displays anymore. I've been in contact with the company that sold them and they are not going to ramp up production again (not even if you ordered 1000 pieces). The little displays available often have huge black spots on the side or even in the middle. If you order displays, I recommend buying at least three in hope that one works out. If they all were fine, you could still resell them later. Regarding the margin: I've used my phone with the margin for a long period and it isn't that bad. Only for some apps it will cause problems as the icons are too

  2. Right. I have just found my earlier message in this forum. There is a long thread about this issue, here I have attached the technical description of touch controller in 2022. In this document, there are registers at 0x805B and 0x805C addresses. Former has 4 bits for setting up blank area of top part and 4 bits for bottom part, latter has 4 bits for left and 4 bits for right parts. Most probably these two registers what are checked in stock OS and written if not equal to a specific value... that is maybe 0 or a relatively low number between 0 and 15 and our screen bought at

  3. https://community.fxtec.com/topic/3204-display-units-with-large-tap-insensitive-margin/page/8/?tab=comments#comment-62230 It should be this thread. You have your current rom installed and try to overwrite it without wiping data. The installation starts and fails after a few minutes, however the display area is reconfigured. I don't know if it works with the Pro1X, but the idea should be the same. Be sure to always backup your data though for the case anything goes wrong.

  4. It's so much fun seeing new prototype phones getting built and your sliding mechanism really turned out great. Thanks for sharing and experimenting! I have installed the app Key Mapper which allows you to remap any key to any action. I've assigned the button [previous song] to portrait mode and [play/pause] to landscape mode. [Next song] activates auto rotation again. The app is also useful to reassign useless keys (like Win) to more useful keys (like right shift). It's a great addition for such a keyboard.

  5. I don't know if stock Pro1 is updating display's firmware but I doubt it. What you write is basically correct, but display has some configuration options and default margin configuration is different for Pro1(x) and Elephone U Pro phones. Maybe they are handling screen edges differently at kernel level. So display is connected through IĀ²C interface and display controller has a description where possible configuration options are written and display margin is among them. So it is clear what should be done. However, I don't know how Android could be told to stop using touch inter

  6. I forgot to add this, for anyone else who gets these exact same batteries: The positive tab is the one on the left, as you are looking at the side of the battery with the printing on it, and the tabs facing up. It has also been extended at the factory, so the positive tab is longer than the negative tab. I'll add a photo later.

  7. @MonCon, Peaseley thanks you for your well wishes. Considering all he's been through, I think he is doing quite well. Here he is post sew-up. As you can see, he has managed to keep his cheerful disposition through it all. He is currently resting, and helping himself to quite a few Easter treats. He's a bit self conscious about it, so no photos of the feasting (yet).

  8. My prototype is starting to look promising. Here is a video how the sliding works. I have added magnets for the closed position since filming. I like how it works now even so it not anything like Pro1. https://youtube.com/shorts/1MKx5WJQYBY?si=EVlCHOW1qPO22pJX I flipped the left side sliding mechanism so it is more durable. For the right side I had to use narrower mechanism so I could not fit circle magnets to the upper part. I used magnetic stripe/tape instead. It is not as strong but good enough. Now I am thinking if I can identify keyboard position (closed or not) with NFC. Y

  9. I did some prototyping today. I think that I am able to tackle down gimbal camera bump. There is enough room to move the keyboard to the right so the gimbal camera can go lower than surface of the keys. I just need to flip around my sliding mechanism on the left side (not in the pictures). However, the second ultra wide angle camera now touches the keyboard with current Zenfone 9 case but I will use different case in the final version where the bottom is on the same level than the secondary camera. Total thickness will be about 22mm which is a lot but ok for me. I carried the prototype in my p

  11. Rii 518BT keyboard arrived to today. The quality is better than I expected. The keys do not wobble around but is quite loud when typing compared to Pro1. The feel is very "clicky". Also, the layout will take some time to get used to it. Especially the back key is on weird location. Android automatically manages Scandic layout quite well. Here is first mockup with iPhone 11 Pro case that I had in a drawer. It is too short but I am still waiting couple cases that I ordered earlier for this project. The camera bump of Zenfone 9's gimbal camera causes some trouble so I cannot put the keyboard

  12. My package left Hong Kong on 4/2 and arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, on 4/1. Not sure how the time travel will affect the batteries. I am hoping they will gain capacity as they age instead of lose it. If the effect is exponential, one day I hope to never need to charge my phone again. šŸ˜… It also looks like it cleared USA customs: Fingers crossed for no troublesome adhoc'ers.

  13. I ordered the Rii 518BT bluetooth keyboard (USB-C variant) and couple cases so that I can build my own slider phone. Let's see how it goes. I have Zenfone 9 which has dimension 146.5 x 68.1 x 9.1 mm so there should be enough room to built sliding mechanism when the keyboard is attached. Camera hole still needs some tinkering thought. You can see my idea below. For the sliding mechanism I am using magnets inside a plastic rail. The rail is actually a cable cover but seems to be solid with the magnets. First I tried to develop tilting mechanism similar to Astro Slide but since I do not have

  14. I found an easy way to fix this from any ROM, without having to wipe userdata. tl;dr: Edit: Make backups. It shouldn't be necessary, but you never know! Flash the 2020-08-25 stock ROM, but skip flashing/wiping userdata. More info here. Let it attempt to boot (for a couple of minutes). It (very probably) won't ever get through it, because the userdata partition wasn't wiped. This doesn't matter, though. It does flash the touchscreen firmware, which fixes the unresponsive screen edges. Edit: I did not time it, but I think I let it sit at the boot logo for 2-3
