From what we heard and read, I think it's safe to assume that not even 50% of all preorders are assembled. No matter how much of 'failed' devices can be re-used, the point that there are most probably a lot of pre-orders (hundreds, if not thousands) where assembly---or even production---has not even started, still stands.
-
I guess, we can agree that is is very likely, that hundreds of pre-orders are open for production. "how quickly they can get the remaining pre-order devices assembled" means either, they did not yet start on those, or that they already started an ALL still open pre-order assemblings in parallel (what would be very unusual from a production point-of-view). So "there are pre-orders where assembly has not yet started" is a very reasonable assumption to make, I would argue. 🙂 Edit: To clarify: If you have to produce more than 10,000 phones and only shipped <200 to customers, I wo

@glumreaper even though a lot of us wonder and have fun picking all words apart, I guess only a small group is actually un-relaxed about this situation. Sure, I am curious how this will all play out and whether I'll get my Pro1 before Christmas, but nevertheless am I absolutely relaxed about the whole matter, as this was not intended to be a Christmas gift of any form to anyone. (Truth be told, on ordering I had expected to be in possession of mine since weeks at this point ;)) So I for one actually enjoy the feeling, that there "might be something coming to play with" sooner or lat

What confuses me is the following: We know that the first batch was rather small. Then this was split up to EU and US. The US-part bounced at customs and now they write: Where is this large batch coming from? That was supposed to be a part of an already small batch. Looks to me like an attept to excuse further delays and make production look bigger as it actually is right now. I understand this as follows: First (small / 120pcs) batch was sent to HK, split to EU (where received) and US (where bounced). This could mean "before shipping from production to HK" or "before

I did not support/deny any claims made whatsoever. I just answered to @Kabbone to clarify where @cmar got the quoted statement from. So no "git cherry-pick" was done, no bothering required. 😉

Since Android 5, devices ALWAYS get encrypted on first boot, or come in an already encrypted state. There is no opt-out. Full-disk-encryption happens (similar to PGP/GPG) in a two-stage setting. Your have your PIN/password and then there is the encryption key (which you do not know). This encryption key is randomly generated and applied and then itself encrypted with "DefaultPassword" and stored onto your storage. If you do not set a passphrase for "on boot", this key will sit there and the Android bootloader just knows that the default password is "DefaultPassword", decrypt your enc

In the "Pro1 shipping update" from Adrian and Chen.

Thanks for the short review! That's really sad to hear. I was already afraid it would be not overly easy to type&walk with that keyboard (I owned a Psion mx5), nevertheless this looked like a very neat device. I eventually opted for Pro1, because of its form factor being pretty similar to the N900 and that was a good compromise of keyboard real estate and usability. Yet, good to hear they could improve quite alot, so maybe the next Planet Computer device focuses on thinner/lighter. My guess is still: Got no "stock assigned" until 12/06 -> go buy yourself a Christmas gift!
-
@damion I second that. Would be very interested in your "first impressions", as I was afraid that the Cosmo would be a little cumbersome for "normal phone" stuff, because you always need to open it with two hands - even for a quick peek at GMaps.

As usual with shipping around Christmas - if phones are not leaving China before 2019-12-06, I do not see a pre-Christmas delivery happening. At least not here in Germany. Priority Air-mail might be able to cut the transportation time down to 5 work days, but that would probably be very expensive. 7-10wdays for 'normal shipping' from China to Germany is usual. Adding 2..3 days due to Christmas-heavy-traffic this would set us at 12..15 work days, resulting in monday 2019-12-09 being the last day where a shipment could be sent out from Hong Kong or China with a hope to reach a customer in German

Discussion and testing on features and known&potential issues

I only tested a couple since 2011, but my vote goes to ActionLauncher, which (IMHO) does landscape how you would expect it to do. Very featureful, highly customizable. -

Sounds to me like Fxtec better sets up a bug tracker before too many devices are delivered, so stuff gets collected in an ordered manner. -
But I guess I could blender a blender blending a blender in Blender... (blender.org)
-
Shiiit! That's meta!
-
I'm German as well - and own TWO blenders! I definitely don't buy into this! 🙂
-
nah - I would, but I somehow get a feeling that would end up in a video of you, drinking a Pina Collada and typing "YOLOLOO" on a Fxtec device...
-
Nice! But the question is: will it blend??
-
I hold it like robert.prior1985. I will remain positive and not worry too much about a non-shipment. From my point-of-view it's just a matter of time. Hopefully before Christmas, but definitely before end of January.
-
So you agree to disagree? 😉 If most people are yet to come, this means we are indeed that hard-core-geek-group, that found the device already. 😉
-
I guess if less than 8% of buying customers register on this forum, the amount of maybe-customers will be even more a lot less. So shopping-wise, you're an absolute PRO - and there aren't many PROs out there (also not many Pro1s :D). Most people would consider a Pro1 if verge/anandtech/yourFavYTInfluencer talks about it. So my estimate would be that more than 90% of potential interested customers for this device is currently not yet aware of its existence. It's only "hard-core geeks" like us, who actively searched, who found it already. Yet, we need to be honest to ourselves and

😉 If you want, halve my numbers - my point still stands for a total of 15k orders as well.
-
They are definitely sequential, but not consecutive. If you got a 35xxx order number, it's highly probable, there will be around 30k orders. And current oder numbers might already exceed 40xxx.
-
My order number is bigger than 30,000. So I'll go for "at least 35k orders". 35k orders 2587 users 77 (now :D) with 10+ posts 10 power-complaining => 7.4% of people who ordered, registered on this forum (every 14ths person) 0.22% are active on the forum (every 455ths person) 0.029% voice that they are very unhappy (one in 3500 persons) If you sell a product and only one out of 3500 customers complains, I'd argue, you did a good job! 🙂 Edit: This might also explain, why Fxtec does not hang around here - because they would only reach l

Which 718€ phone are you talking about - and what 350€ has the same hardware? I would be quite surprised if those existed. If it was parfume, ok, but I never saw somthing like that regarding technical devices.
