  1. Mostly holding on for the screen brightness issue to be resolved because that's what's really not acceptable to me. The rest I can understand as it is their very first device, and at least the software is malleable.

Edit: but yeah I find myself using the virtual keyboard and getting used to how quick it is with autocorrect... Really strange but at least I'm getting the practice in for when I eventually have to transition fully to it...

I meant that the PreProd unit has a poorly calibrated display, and this was super easy to compensate with no additional programs in Lineage.

Does that mean I received a pre-production unit in February? I thought they all had that issue and that I held a final production unit.

  3. Below 45% the dragon starts to appear even brighter than at 55% as the black becomes green-grey instead.

I would definitely expect this to be remedied by an update or screen replacement but will let them deal with the factory production and shipment first while it gets figured out.

  4. I upgraded from Priv.

The Pro1 is far from perfect at this stage.

It will feel very heavy and there is no case yet.

The sides of the screen will often register touches even when holding it carefully. The default camera app sucks (use OpenCamera).

But the battery lasts, and it runs the latest software without hickups. It has made my life a lot less stressful and frustrating compared to the Priv just dying at 40%.

I can't say how the keyboard compares as I find myself using the software one, strangely enough. . but it looks very cool on the side. Main bug for me is the screen color quality degrades with lower brightness which I find hard to swallow at this price. Messaged Erik to see if that can be fixed.

  5. Oh wow yeah OpenCamera is way better for starters. Had a freeze after taking a picture that didn't get saved but still less frustrating experience than whatever was going on with the stock.

Don't forget to set it to max quality video and image though as by default it is 1080p and 90%. Usually take portrait pics so the shutter button isn't very useful.

    What make/model?

    What was it formatted with?

Have you tried to write over 250 GB to it to see if you were sent the wrong one (and really have a 500 GB card)?  Is it set as external storage, or shared with internal storage in the phone?

Patriot and it was in my Priv before, formatted by the Pro1 after insertion, set as internal.

  7. Currently using a black velveteen pouch that's a lot lighter and quicker to remove than the grey felt slip.

Helps keep pocket dust from entering, but not from scratches when placing on a surface, much less when dropping a naked 244g phone onto cement.

I admire Hook's stick-on skin to keep the back in good condition when placing it face-up on an uneven surface. Also helps elevate the glass camera lenses even if it's just by 0.0001mm. So far it's the only one I could almost see myself doing as it doesn't detract much from the aesthetic. But I'm really holding out for the kind of official protective case that it should have shipped with. The grey sleeve is cute but clearly a placeholder.

The post for the 3/10th of pre-orders is here.

F(x)tec doesn't seem to have ever followed their 1 batch a week plan. I find the fact that this indicates they could not predict what was going to be produced one week in advance kind of insulting for them. I've lost track of dates, but it's not impossible the volumes for that large batch cover the missing shipments of that one batch a week (basically, if they missed the 1 week deadline for three weeks, and this last week contains all that was produced during those weeks).

Yeah I feel there's a lot of repackaging information so that it sounds better.

"We're sending a big batch lol haha we're so random and productive!"

    Vs.

"Those 2 previous batches weren't sent out lol oops but now they are. Sorry."

  9. Well I haven't really been following 'Erik' but this is what I received in official emails, to put things in chronological perspective.

I'm a total sucker for niche PKB devices but the internal components in the world of cellphones do age very quickly, and there might not be another PKB device when this one becomes obsolete, which begs the question of whether it's worth making the jump to VKB earlier and sort of gulp down the distasteful medicine that we are a dying breed. 😅

But that would be a logical/rational decision and I'm emotional and stubborn about the things I want. 😙 The Motorola Razr is tempting but also expected to be around $2000CAD compared to this $900CAD, and the internals aren't really cutting-edge either. So with that in mind I can pretend I am being rational and frugal and keep hating on VKB. 😛

  10. People really shouldn't be coy about the lack of discrepancy between the company's hopeful wishes and what they present to customers as timeframes.

At best it's unintentionally ignorant, at worst deceitful, and it's possible precisely because they have little to lose by way of cancellations and refunds.

So no, most of us won't be punishing them for 6 months of interest, because the cost of re-acquiring it at a higher price comes to the same.

But that doesn't mean we have to shut up about it either. A little tough love goes a long way and hopefully they can be more transparent.
