  1. one more note regarding protecting my battered Pro 1x:

I ordered one of these cases, took out the wallet insert quite easily, increased the cut out  at the bottom for the charging access, and figured out that if I open my Pro 1x, I can insert the bottom, keyboard portion into the case quite snugly, and then i can slide the phone close and open securely.  I just have to memorize the locations of the up, down and power buttons as they don't correspond exactly, but not difficult.

Now I don't feel like i'm risking another disaster.  Hope this can be of help to others.

  2. Just wanted to follow up with my camera lens cover repair in case anyone else need the info.  I used a heat gun to loosen the glue. It was just a few seconds and I was able to ply out the glass with a dental sharp tool. I was careful not to scratch the camera lens itself. Cleaned the residual glue with rubbing alcohol and Q tips.  Once again thanks to CornholioGSM's tip on the Redmi Note 7 glass I ordered it.  It was the exact size, except that I had to install it upside down (the writing will be upside down) so the larger opening is on top.

Nice not to have  halos in my pictures. Thanks again, everyone!

I've 3d printed the hard case and glued it to a somewhat correct size leather case.

There was a topic here somewhere that has a list of leather cases that fit the Pro1x dimension wise, though none just fit without tinkering with the case a bit.

I was looking online, and guesstimating.  There was a Moxee M2160 that looked similar, except for the charging connector being on the back of the case instead of at the bottom of the case.  I might try to get a wallet case for that phone and see how close i get.

    Thank you for your reply!

...if you want it then write me please tomorrow PM.

BTW for protect camera glass buy tempered protection glass from ali - search for redmi note 7

Thank you for your reply and the kind offer!  I ordered the Redmi Note 7 camera glass just now.  I was guessing on the glass , perhaps Samsung A10? But now I will get the Redmi note 7 glass.

  5. What does everyone do with protecting their Pro 1x?  My immediate question is actually, " how does one get their camera lens cover replaced..." because stupidly I dropped my phone twice in a day, and did not realize until the next day that the camera lens had cracked and a piece is actually gone (after I tried to tape over it, the tape lifted it off).  So, as I felt really stupid for dropping the phone, I thought that if I HAD a protective case It might have been less damages done, but that I didn't have a case because it's a tricky phone for a case unless i had the skill to make one myself.

Tips on either one of the questions would be much appreciated.

I'm very sorry to see that you received a depleted Pro1-X. If you'd like to carry out this repair by yourself, there are currently two ways to do this, but both would require you to disassemble your phone. We do not recommend doing this unless you have experience with electronics repair. As others stated, some components are very delicate and can be prone to break if not careful.

If you do wish to proceed by yourself, we have a detailed video tutorial on how to "jump start" your battery by taking apart your Pro1-X. A link of the video can be found here. You can either prepare a charger that has an output of 12V and to crimp the cable so you can have positive and negative ends to spark the battery connector. Or, you could purchase a universal battery charger and plug the battery connector onto a board to charge directly.

It is always welcome that you contact us for any repairs for your device via [email protected]. We will help you with the RMA process and to ensure you get your device back asap.

Thanks to everyone here in the forum and FxTec tech support I have finally a beautiful AND working Pro 1x back in my hands!! There was even a screen protector in the box for me to apply, like a mint on the pillow.  Much appreciated!  It was at first frustrating to not have a way to test the keyboard without downloading some app.  i resisted the prying grip of Google playstore by loading Firefox so that I could ditch chrome. So I could get Gmail and Facebook without using the apps. The keyboard is elegantly designed and nicely backlit. Internet access is good. Having the tilt when the keyboard is revealed made watching the Internet archive B&W movies very comfortable. I can send and receive sms and MMS (!), The battery life is robust. The voice call is at first non existent. In fact when I looked for the sounds, all but the voice call seemed normal. The voice call volume at its highest level was thin and soft. When I test called, the call went through, but the answering machine cut me off as it didn't detect a presence. I tested it with using speaker phone... Nothing. Then I turned on wifi calling. Maybe it was a fluke, but this time it was given some time to record a message! And played back the message I left was loud and clear.  So there IS hope. Perhaps to start the voice call volume need to be line level, and/or need mic preamplification.(thinking as a recording engineer)? Just a thought.

while I still want to try other operating systems, I have to admit I'm not familiar with adb fastboot. I got comfortable with using Jump drive of the earlier Pine phone ways to try it different distributions  is Adb similar?

I assume that while in uk being repaired, my Pro1x has not been reprogramed to be able to charge while turned off because when I turned it off and plugged it in to charge the phone come back on. So this mean I will HAVE To learn how to use adb to do it? is there a clear and simple way to get me started? I would be using a laptop or desktop with Ubuntu (but not the latest one).

Thank you again, all of you!

  7. So, i was getting ready to send back the Indiegogo Pro 1x that came unbootable. Since i opened the box from the underside i failed to see the handwriting that said "does not boot up" until now when i flipped the box over. (see attached).  I don't understand why, if it was deemed Unbootable, did they still mail it out?  And the question  now is: will my Web order be coming from this same location?  might i suggest they send the known unbootable  units to people in UK. so that the repair isn't two international shipments away?841340623_DOAlabelIMG20231117090621.thumb.jpg.7ff632e189815f391f1ab39d442e0b2a.jpg

  8. I hadn't realize  there's  a page  to  check the  status of the order on FxTec.  Thanks for that link, @KaKi87!  So I checked my order info:

Order #56xxxx, Aug 2020. It is still listed as a black Pro 1. *edit: status says Processing.

There was no information on the upgrade to a Pro1x.  Does anyone else's show that?  Mine is complicated as it then got bundled with the Indiegogo Pro1x I ordered in Nov 2020, but it does not show on the Indiegogo page that I have 2 Pro1xs.  My credit card receipt is the only place. Should I be asking about this with @Casey

I have no idea when the Aug 2020 order will come. Am I naive to wait for it before sending the Indiegogo one I received last week that does not boot? 😞

Please be extremely careful around the fingerprint reader cable, it is short, and several have reported damaging it opening an Pro1&Pro1X when the two halves re separated.

Thanks @EskeRahn for your input.  I am weary of opening this brand new unit as I still remember opening the only working PocketEdge to replace the battery (hard to come by but I got it), and to come back and mess up the ON/OFF toggle. So then i have no working unit at all. 😞

I know it's sad but please let it get fixed by FxTec, even if it takes some (more) time.

The good news is, the warranty repair is just dealing with London, not HK

Thanks, @SchattengestaItand @Hook, but I am in NYC, and London is still an expensive International shipping task.   I also still have another unit coming (or am I dreaming that it will ever come?). I just wish, that there's a way around the charging?  Maybe a giant Induction Charging block !?

  10. This time it happened. I got the email notification.  I got a tracking number. I got crazy tracking status updates that said otherwise, but I did receive the Pro1x I ordered through Indiegogo on Nov 3rd, about 10 days after I got email notification. I think though, I got one of those that has a depleted battery.  It won't turn on.  It does not show charging.  The red light flashed once when I plugged it in to charge.  No show of progress at all. If i hold down the power button continuously, that red light flashes once every 10, 11 seconds.

What should I do? If this unit can be revived I might wait for my 2nd unit which I ordered through the website. If not, refund for both units?

So close yet so far. It felt good to hold the Pro1x in my hands, but will I ever see it in action....?

Thanks in advance for any input or help.

  11. Hi Sequestris,

Thanks for your reply.  I also did not get notification for your reply.  In the mean time, I received one of the two Pro1x (via Indiegogo) November 3rd. Progress, sort of. But I am stuck at booting up the device. I may never find out what it's like to have a Pro1x after all, as I read in the forum that Pro 1x cannot be charged unless it is ON.   In which case, I will still need to get a refund for the other Pro1x that I ordered through FxTec website.

    Thanks for pointing the way.

  12. Hi,

I'm at my wit's end for the two Pro 1x (one from Indiegogo, one from FxTec, but then FxTec said something about bundling them together, which I don't know what it really meant) to arrive.  It seems that there is no end in sight, except about $1500 down the drain.  @sequestrisdo you think you wouldn't mind sharing your method to get the refund? It would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  13. I see! Yes, I was of the Nokia Communicator lineage, if you will, the horizontal keyboard.  Though, I still use my E90 for notes because it has a solid hinging system, and only thought about the Nokia E7 for about 1/2 hr, as it felt flimsy back then.  I only switched to the Nokia N9 when it couldn't connect any more.   My sister on the other hand, had been an HP Ipaq user. So, i guess that's of the vertical keyboard type.  Her LG was the horizontal type, but I think she's always missed the Ipaq.

I guess when it comes to keyboard vs. no keyboard, either vertical or horizontal will do.

  14. What does it mean "wrong direction"?

So what's good with this particular keyboard cover is the ease of clipping on, and how instantly the keyboard is usable.  (i saw later that there is a Bluetooth one as well, but I really wouldn't want to go that extra step of pairing. ) when you want to use the phone without keyboard you just slide it to the back side, so it doesn't need to come off and risk being misplaced.   Also, I had thought it would limit what one can see on the screen, but somehow the screen content adjusts and you just scroll down to see the rest of the page.

I don't know BlackBerry at all aside from the look though, so I apologize in advance for not knowing what may be obvious to BB devotees.

  15. I have just set my sister up with a Samsung Galaxy S7 and a clip on keyboard cover case that makes it look like a Blackberry. https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/mobile-accessories/phones/samsung-galaxy-s7-keyboard-cover-black-ej-cg930ubegus/

She had a LG Fathom with T-Mobile, but was told that by July 2022 her phone will no longer be usable with its 3G limitation.  She's happy with this set up.

    Good luck!
