  1. Yes, backup and restore is far and away the biggest thing people want out of TWRP over and above the "standard" recovery. The main thing I'm working on now is an archiver. It will be able to backup and restore directly from Android, no recovery required. Among other things, it will feature compression, encryption, incremental backups, and both local / remote storage. And it will work on any Linux system, not just Android. I plan to use on my own systems once it's working well.

  2. Not currently. If I could decrypt data, I'd have a decrypting TWRP released by now. 🙂 I am hoping that backing up an FBE encrypted data partition (eg. while in recovery) and then restoring it in the same environment will work. But I have to test that out.

  3. Well, the standard Unix-y part of it will be a CLI tool with arguments more or less like tar. But the backup and restore arguments will likely be limited to block devices and directories, though that is not certain yet. Block devices will be backed up as a single unit of data (as you would get with "dd") and directories will be backed up recursively (as you would get with "tar"). It will also have a client/server mode similar to rsync, which will communicate over sockets (meaning remote backups are possible without using tools like stdio pipes or sshfs etc.) Android will surely

  4. If you want to put it this way: yes, you are buying a smartphone with technology that has been on the market for a few years. The focus of this device is on the physical keyboard. Current hardware does not really exist with such a keyboard. If you want newer hardware, you'll have to request a refund and buy something out of the mainstream. The unfortunate delays have already been discussed many times.

  5. I don't think Pro1-X is a different revision (otherwise they would need to redo certifications anyway). The improved amount of RAM and Flash storage is simply a drop-in replacement of two components. Software-wise it is another question, but these hardware can be identified at their appropriate registers and it may or may not already included in the code (most likely it is). As Pro1-X also comes with two variations, so the same configuration as Pro1 and an improved Flash / RAM model, the software running on Pro1-X should handle both configurations. So, generally it does not seem

  6. Think one of the reasons hes doing this as a CLI type tool is data will be decrypted (as it reads the files direct on device not external) before sending to the backup so you have the data unencrypted.

  8. For me, it is mostly for backups, flash and build in file manager where you can revert changes when you make some errors and mistakes (example: broken xposed module).

  9. You would be amazed at all the things that need to align for two revisions of the same model device to get the same updates. Not saying it won't happen, just warning you that it is not as straightforward as it seems on the surface.

  10. (lineage-17.1-20210104-nightly-pro1-signed.zip on December 5 security patch installed smoothly using OTA) After my first 17.1 update, my EdXposed modules are deactivated. Then I have to flash magisk module again (FYI).

  12. i know that I am repeating mine and many others here. I have been waiting since the middle of April last year for my device. I do understand the virus and other things that go on. But. we keep being told twelve weeks and twelve weeks and other things. The last I heard was between January and March 2021. I am being respectful here but our phones will be at least a year old with year old technology. Are they going to be updated with the latest technology or are paying for a year old phone. Thanks, Bob
