So I ended up building my own phone. Backstory: A few of you know me for my hardware modding adventures. I've replaced the broken USB port with a new port. I've then removed the fingerprint sensor to replace it with a secondary USB port for a more comfortable landscape mode. I filed away some parts of the display mount to make it more durable and I was about to replace the battery while reusing the old BMS. Smart custom case is now complete after drying overnight. Here are some screenshots next to F(x)tec Pro¹. It's using the same design as this other case with the folding front edge so that it can be used as support when unfolded. Seems to be working just fine so far. I just updated to LOS 21, thank you for the instructions on the LOS wiki page. Boot time is the same or better than version 20, about 25 seconds from cold, so the 3 minute comment is not my experience. i flashed Magisk by downloading the v.27 .apk and changing the extension to .zip, and then sideloading that with adb. That is the deprecated install method, but I believe @Hook said that is what preserves root after OTA updates, so I did that, no problems, we shall see if root is preserved on the next OTA.

A most excellent arrangement, and thanks for the imurgs (I was wondering how you would make actual calls, and your pix explain). When I had a Galaxy S5, I found a laptop-ish bt kb for it: a shell built for the S5, and it swung open for typing or you could put the kb against the phone's back for calling, etc. The kb was pretty spongy and I must admit I didn't use it much past proof-of-concept. Your rig seems more useful.

Probably either method preserves root after OTA. However, if root is really all you want, the flash-as-zip method is easy and gets the job done without you having to manually do the whole repack the bootloader dance.

Well, I´m not sure. I thought, it´s because Magisk and all the modules. But I´m fine with it.... it works 🙂

I have uploaded a new build of LineageOS 16.0 for Pro1 (SD835) at: https://findus.zwergenschaenke.net/~puma/linux.html#lineagepro1 It gives you ASB fixes backported to Android 9 up to patchlevel "5 August 2023". There are no other changes with respect to the June update above. I will continue to make new builds of LOS 16 as long as I use my Pro1 or until Markus stops backporting the ASBs, whatever comes first. However, as the Pro1/X community -- and by extension this forum -- seems to be dying, I'm not sure I will keep updating this thread much longer. If you are using my builds
