  1. Does anyone know for certain if I can take the screen from a Pro1x and put it on my Pro1?  I'm still using an original Pro1 and the screen is now shattered pretty bad.

I would prefer not to have to switch to a new samsung slab phone at this time.  I have a Pro1x sitting in the box but reading about issues with them makes me not want to even bother.  But if I can borrow the screen from it to fix my Pro1, I would try it.

I currently only got a unit that is not retail, so MIGHT be different. My button is quite loose, but if I do not touch it, it tilts one way similar to your picture. If I press at the opposite end, it tilts the other way.

The active contact is near the middle of the button.

If yours stay down pressing at the other end, it could indicate that 'something' is between the frame and the button. And I assume it is unlikely to get rid of this without opening the device.

There is no way to get the depressed side to lift up.  I can press the lower edge (left side of picture) and it will click the actual button underneath,  If it rocked back and forth like you describe I would see that as fine.  But it's stuck with the one side depressed.  On my Pro1 it's firmly sticking out and even on both sides.

  3. I received my Pro1x from IGG contribution; I already have the original Pro1 from years ago.  I opened the box and played with it a little and the cameras definitely seem better quality.

However, I've noticed that the power button seems to be stuck on one side and not seated properly.  I'm attaching a photo to show how it is stuck/depressed on the top edge and raised up on the bottom edge (when holding the phone in the normal orientation with the camera towards the top).  This is distinctly different from how the power button on my existing pro1 sits and I immediately felt it as being wierd.  I'm concerned this will become a long term durability problem.  I know with my current pro1 over the last year a normal press of the power button is frequently acting as a double press as I get prompted asking which camera app I want to open.  I mention this because it's an example of weardown after only a few years.  With this improperly seated button on the pro1x I expect a problem sooner.

I emailed support about it to see what they say.  But I'm wondering if others that received their Pro1x notice the same thing about that power button of mine is just 'special'?

I find this very interesting. Are your voice calls placed via VoLTE? Supposedly shut down their 3G network, but I have my doubts.

If VoLTE, what ROM are you using?

A couple of days ago I ordered an activated AT&T SIM for testing. Since the account is new, I don't expect 3G to function even if the network is still active.

Yes, VoLTE.  I've changed my phone's preferred network to LTE only, maybe like a year ago after AT&T kept sending out messages saying 3g was going away and my phone wouldn't work.  Check earlier posts in this thread for more details / screenshots.

By ROM, I assume you mean am I running Lineage or Android...etc?  It's the stock Android 9.

I previously used this SIM on an ATT branded BB Priv that was bought new off ebay from an att reseller.  My point being I didn't buy it in store / tell them this si the phone I have and to change the associated service on the SIM.  Just before I started to use it in Pro1 I realized I wasn't getting 4g and called ATT and they added 4g service to it.

I really think part of the reason I'm still functional here is because I had the SIM provisioned for 4g and I've shut down hopping to 3g on the phone settings.  Of course some day I might be dead.

  5. TLDR this thread...but can anyone tell me what version on android will ship on the Pro1x if I select that?

I had chosen Lineage at the time of backing (and may ultimately stick with that).  I'm thinking of changing my selection to get a newer version of Android then version 9 that came with Pro1.  I've been interested in trying Lineage but didn't like the idea of wiping my device to start over from scratch.  As long as I have a functional Pro1, I can experiment on the Pro1x.

@KingOfTerrible any luck on mint? Im thinking about getting the pro1x when it comes out and in the early research stage of this rabbit hole. Struggling to find a USA company that I can trust will not put me through hell with coverage. All help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It worked okay on Mint (Tmobile network) during the 7 day trial.  I only used it sparingly to test service in different areas around where I live and didn't encounter any problems.  I am still using my Pro1 on ATT.  Even though they sent me a text over a month ago saying my service no longer works, it has continued to work just fine in 4G LTE only mode.

So I just got a text message about 10 minutes ago from AT&T that says:

Hi, it's AT&T. We said goodbye to our 3G network on Feb. 22, 2022, so we can bring you access to our upgraded network. Your voice network service, including e911 no longer works on device ending in *[MY_NUMBER]*, and you may not have data service. Please call 800.880.8581 or visit a retail store to make changes to your account.

I just tried making a phone call and it still worked... So we'll see how this goes over the next couple days I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

FYI, almost a week now since that message and pro1 is still working on ATT.

AT&T shut my Pro1 off in late Aug of 2021 after sending me a bunch of text messages and a junk LG as a replacement.

It was reporting as 4G or 4GLTE and HD voice right up until they turned it off..

Your mistake was accepting their free replacement...because the terms with that was once you got it there would auto activate it and kill your other sim.  I was getting the same texts and stuff so I called and they said they could cancel the replacement but still said my phone would stop working.  Never received the radiator phone or whatever crap they wanted to send.

It's all ATT fault though, not really on you.

I did and there was no way to get it back, they insisted on chat, in the store and on chat again that the device was only 3G it was a useless battle to convince them otherwise despite sending them the spec sheet numerous times. I had no ability to make voice calls for over a week and when they swapped the sim card for a new one i then lost data too and they said I would lose texting after.

But was your sim ever activated for 4g / did you ever have it in another 4g phone and saw it says 4g at the top / had hd voice /VoLTE?

That is fascinating 😂 considering that everyone else has been cut off this far. Is be curious to know the reason it's been good so far.

A side note, I've been developing a back up plan or two in the unlikely event that Verizon and/or AT&T are not willing to accept our devices as a whole. There are other ways around these issues, but they involve some serious competency in phone technology. Trying to avoid that if at all possible

I've been following all the related threads and my memory might not be so accurate on things, but who here on the forum has actually lost their service on the pro1 on ATT network?  I seem to recall more that people were jumping ship to another phone / provider beforehand.  One of the other things though is whether the sim / account was already activated for 4g lte /hd voice.  If it never was then yeah I'd expect no service.

One would think that if you plug the sim into a 4g phone it would work on that network tech...but apparently that wasn't the case on ATT.  My prior phone was a BlackBerry Priv that was att branded but I got off a dealer on ebay, not in att store.  My phones prior to that were all nokia (e7 was final).  I had taken the sim out of the nokia and put it in the priv.  For years I used it and it only ever said 3g /3.5g at the top.  Just before I started using the pro1 I realized/read that I wasn't active for 4g so I called att and they confirmed I had a priv and activated it.  Immediately the voice calling /, hd voice sounded different.  So then I put the already activated (as priv) sim in my pro1 and have been using it since.  And for a long time I left the default setting until started worrying about the 3g shutdown notices and I set the phone to only use 4g from the menu screen I've shown before.

That is good news. I don't want to ask you to possibly risk your service, but would you be able to call at&t and ask them what phone they show you are using in their system?

Mine is still working too in Boston. As for the device, there was one time when it was identified as an iphone, which made me laugh, but they know the actual device as they have the imei when you log in, it just says 'device'

I'm not going to risk it.  I'm seeing "device" on their account management site.  I think it was showing BB Priv at one point.

  13. I'm not about to declare that I'm in the clear at all but it's now 11:30am ET on Feb 22nd and my phone is still working (phone calls and messaging) on AT&T.

@Fullmetaljacket223@EskeRahn can we get the thread title updated to include AT&T also?

I had the thought last night that this effort may have to involve complaints filed to the FCC.  FCC complaints usually get responses (at least with cable TV services).  But I suspect whatever laws/regulations allow the providers to decline service / say what is allowed.

@suicidal_orangeI probably made 4/5 calls about this subject to AT&T and then gave up.  I figured I just have to wait it out until the shutdown and see what happens with a hopeful backup plan of tmobile or worst case will need to buy a new phone.

I'm not sure what to do about this either.  AT&T support has been down the last 2 days, so I can't even tell them not to deactivate the Pro1 and activate the replacement they sent me just to see what happens on 2/22.

I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep this thing working.

Are we sure the Pro1 X has the same 3G/4G chipset and it won't work either?  I'm not sure about all the different bands that are listed.

The fxtec pro 1 absolutely has everything it needs to operate fully in the att network on 4g lte with hd voice.  I'm using it now.  I specifically set it to only use 4g probably 6 months ago.  I do get a couple dead spots but it's not jumping down to 3g.  I fear it won't help me come tomorrow (I had found Feb 22nd as the official day they kill off their 3g network), but on the chance they let devices that have the technology, there's a chance.

When I first started dealing with this the 6 months ago or whatever I tried talking to multiple AT&t customer service people through their 611 service.  And I got different answers people some people said it had to be on the white list or it's not going to work some people said it will either work or it won't based on technology.  But I'm fully expecting that they're only doing their specific whitelisted devices.  And as is already been mentioned in this post my reaching out to fxtec to get them to work with AT&t so that the device could be white listed as failed because they don't seem to care.  When that does happen I'll be requesting to cancel my pro1x order/funding, if that's even still possible because what good to me is a second phone that I can't use in the United States.

So if I do get kicked off of AT&t in my plan is to go to T-Mobile as I've already confirmed on their website that T-Mobile says my device is fully compatible with their Network.  And I've also ordered a mint Mobile SIM card from amazon for $0.99 which allows you to have 7 Days of service to test it out... And mint is using T-Mobile's Network exclusively so to me that proves that T-Mobile will work.. of course I don't know that it won't be a problem after the years out but I've seen nothing about them forcing the white list of phones either.

  15. FYI, I finally found an actual date for the AT&T shutdown, Feb 22 2022.  Looks like I will know in 20 days if I have to switch to T-Mobile or get a new phone.

I got myself a 99 cent Mint Mobile sim card off amazon which comes with a free 7 day trial / 250 mins / 250 text to test out the T-Mobile network coverage.

ATT has my imei registered as an att branded blackberry priv (which is on the approved list) since they don't recognize the fxtec imei in their system (invalid)...but of course they know what my sim is actually in.  Only time will tell at this point.

Which seems to be true-- not much they can do about that.

Maybe but the approve list has brands / single model phones I've certainly never heard of so I don't see how fxtec couldn't get on the list too if they actually tried.

I assume you have Post-pay AT&T servivce right now.  If so, that is why the BYOD check is complaining about the IMEI-- it is already locked to an account.  I don't know if you have other phones on this account and therefore what options you do or don't have.  One possibility would be to take them the spec sheet with the bands listed.

If you don't have other phones tied to your account (like a family plan), one option is to switch to Pre-pay, either AT&T or T-Mobile (porting the number).

But if you get a good in-person tech at AT&T, given the specs, they should be able to work it out for you.  At least when I used AT&T a while back, the techs thought the Pro1 was cool.

Yes I have post paid / monthly contract service.  So I've never used the 2nd sim slot for a sim card, only for sd memory card.  If I try the same att webpage with the 2nd slot IMEI it gives the same "not recognized" message.  As such, I don't think the error on that page has anything to do with the fact that I has service with them already.  Try it with your IMEI if you can.

I called ATT again and spoke with another representative.  She cancelled the crap phone they wanted to send me.  She said come Feb 2022 either my phone will work if it supports 4G technology or it won't.  I worry that they will only let certain IMEI approved devices work and that her information isn't correct.

We have had a discussion on the oddities of carrier behaviour and VoLTE over here

Thanks, I read through that thread and confirmed that the *#INFO screen has the first four sliders enabled.  I'm running stock Android 9 on the Pro1.  AT&T's system knows the IMEI from my old Blackberry Priv (which is a model they used to sell and on their OKAY list: https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/wireless/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf).  My "Set preferred network type" was set to unknown, yet voice and data lines above it said LTE.  I have switched the drop down to say LTE only.  Rebooted the phone and mad a phone call.  So it seems that I am certainly on 4G VoLTE???
