A user found a way to charge a 'dead' Pro1X!!! (confirmed by others)

Interesting. He is basically causing a looping "Battery pull" reboot, so it seems that there is some low level part of that which briefly draws power without needing the usual processes that require being able to fully boot. I've always said the "battery pull" reboot was very useful for a wonky behavior on a phone, but I had no idea.  ;-)

Hope we can get a record of this working for someone else for verification.

Wow! What promise. A silly question: with the power button fully engaged overnight, am I to assume that the phone is connected to a power source and charging throughout?

Yes connected, but as he describes not charging continuously, but a few seconds per boot. Amazing that it worked. I really hope others can reproduce it, fixing their issues.

Well, now I'm stuck with starting it (link).

Anyway, helped a lot to fight first resignation after opening a package I waited for more than 2 years, facing it seems broken.

I measured 3,20V on the battery connector at red flashing state, is this voltage the very low battery state ? I thought it was more around 3V, but probably depend on battery model/technology

Also I inject 4,1V direct on the battery connector, and in about 30s I had 5% battery, so this trick is very good !

My phone is working again! Well, the battery is charged, and it boots. I'm thrilled because I thought I was stuck with a poorly engineered brick. Now, I'm the proud owner of a poorly engineered phone. If we can just solve the issues around wireless connectivity, I can use this as a phone—one step at a time...

Hello, one more confirmation that this method is working!

I received my long-waited Pro1X a couple of days ago. After unpacking, I noticed that the device didn't boot up or take charge.
I was wondering whether to disassemble the phone to access the battery, or perhaps try to kick some charge in by
plugging/unplugging a magnetic cable (probably a thousand times...)

But luckily I found this thread. I wrapped the phone in its original packaging bag, squeezed its body (and the power button)
with a long twist tie, and left it plugged to its own charger for the night.

I can say that the process took more than 5 hours (phone LED was still blinking every 15s) but under 10 hours (LED green, battery fully charged).

During weekend I'll do some basic h/w tests with the shipped Android, and then the intention is to switch it to SFOS.

I found another Way

After plug-in to the supply, the Device consumed power after around 1 second, for around 0.8 seconds. So i connected a Switchable Supply, and made power-cycles of 2s on and 2s off. After approximatly 800 cycles it consumed more power, then it was able to charge the battery the regular way.

Rubber band worked for me!

I had a power meter attached. During the process, there was a 150mA pulse approximately once every 10 seconds while the power button was depressed.

After about 5 hours, the LED turned into a fast blinking red light, and charging rate increased to 500mA. When I saw this, I removed the rubber band.

A short time later, the screen turned on, Android booted and charging rate went up to 2000mA.

Interesting and faster method! 👍 Though the fewest will have the needed Switchable Supply to do it this way, it could be interesting for FxTec for devices they got in for service. So let me tag @Erik and @Casey so they can forward it to the right persons.

To be honest with you, I didn't believe this hold-power-button-5-hours hack will work, but it did! Thanks a lot everyone! 🙂 After 14 long years I've finally changed my Nokia E73 to something new. 🙂

14 years--that has to be a record! Though I did use 2 paper cups and a string as a phone during my first 8 years on the planet. Never ran out of battery, either 🙂

Another DOA phone that wouldn't charge here. I was relieved to find this forum and that I was not the first to have experienced the problem. 

And I am happy to confirm that the rubber band hack worked for me also... 

Phone was still unresponsive after six hours, but the following day (after a total of 18 hours) it sprang to life.

HI,

Finally received my phone, Pro1-X Model QX1050, email support refused to assist in responding to any messages.

Found my way here through google search, to learn I needed a rubber band for a mobile that won't start - no boot, nothing.

Did this - still absolutely nothing. Pretty peeved, like maybe some of you, to wait 2+ years for a phone that needs a rubber band, and doesn't work. To spend coin, place trust, and this is the result.

Nuff said, no doubt others have the same issue.

If there is anyone that can provide assistance turning this overpriced expensive door stop into the mobile I saved up for - would be very keen to hear.

Also. I don't have the luxury to be on the internet everyday, so my replies may take a while depending on the circumstances,

How long did you leave on? It often needs to be overnight. And make sure it is on tight enough to keep the power button pressed. You may have done all that but wasn't clear with the details you provided.

...And just for being clear, this has to be done while it is constantly being connected to some power supply.

48 hours with the rubber band.

Super super tight - no tissue to protect the screen, couldn't budge the band by hand!

There has been a black screen the entire time

No visuals nothing.

There is a green light which changes to red indicator light, nothing else.

The backlight on the keypad comes on when the phone is opened.

I can also hear sounds as though something is happening, in terms of when trying to boot on.

When the rubber band was on - there seemed to be a constant cycling loop, from the sounds emanating.

The first rubber band attempt was about 26 hours, I then removed the rubber band and let it remain on charge, and tried multiple times to boot it through pressing the power button - nothing.

Then I repeated the rubber band process another 26+ hours. No change.

Each time I attempt the power button - to load or shutdown - no idea because no visuals - I rely on the vibration kicking in.
