Personally I hope for e-ink keys like they had on the "Alias 2" a.k.a. "SCH-U750" Samsung made for Verizon. An ingenious solution, fitting 'any' language or gaming...4 points

Thanks. I am on stock android. I do not experience the issue when selecting gboard instead of swiftkey. So it must be a swiftkey option to find. Good first narrow down. I found the solution now. Swiftkey app> Typing > physical keyboard >Automatically show / hide virtual keyboard must be deselected to avoid the problem I was describing.2 points

"Working on their next phone" might not be that absurd after all... If everything would have gone well with the Pro1, I suppose 2021 would have been the proper year to introduce a Pro2 anyway... And with the kind of stopgap the Pro1X has become and all the additional design work that had become necessary now done, I suppose that, commercially, getting a new, attractive phone ready is really the most import thing for them now...2 points

Are you on stock android, or some other rom? Du you see the same if you (for test) use the standard keyboard driver, and not Swiftkey? Is it a particular program, or 'any' input field? I use Swiftkey on stock, and do not see this, so I'm almost certain it is a setting somewhere that need to be changed. (the suggestion to de-select swiftkey, to see if it is a setting inside or outside swiftkey we are hunting for...)1 point

Stock Android has been severely neglected on the Pro1. That said, the device has been designed for being used with alternative ROMs right from the start, and there are official versions of LineageOS (LOS) 18.1 (which is what I'm using) and Android Ice Cold Project (AICP) available for the Pro1 which are mature and do get weekly updates. Here's a thread (best read through it, it's not too long) that details how to install custom ROMs LOS or AICP if maximum compatibility to the stock Android experience (including running most safety-conscious apps) is the goal: Regarding Linux, there'1 point

Interestingly there are slight differences on how the apps are displayed between "virtual keyboard" and "hardware keyboard" (e.g. on the fold 3 deja office opens separate pop up to type in a field, whereas the pro1 types directly in the form). I am not sure why. Maybe someone can explain. But these slight differences were not an obstacle to usability and overview. The larger screen of the fold 3 to read texts and watch videos are an important plus point. Looking forward to seeing what fxtec has in the pipeline for its Pro2. In my view they should combine1 point

Thanks for the above. I agree with the limitations you listed. A member of my family acquired a fold3, so I have been testing it a bit. I also prefer the feel of the pro1 keyboard, but the keyboard of the fold3 is very good (using swiftkey, and using navigation gesture to create more space for the keyboard). I have been testing various apps (whatsapp, google calendar, sms, bluemail, dejaoffice) and I could do all the tasks easily on the fold3 virtual keyboard.1 point

Of course you are right. I'm just venting my frustration at them having too little resources to invest in proper keyboard layouts which is somewhat central to that hardware... Hopefully their next hardware replaces the keyboard prints layer with a flexible OLED screen for maximum layout customisation.1 point

Yep very good idea simply using a 1A-only port. I am exactly with you here, I don't need fast charge, the phone already lasts all day and 1A or even 0.5A is enough to recharge overnight. I was just lazy and did not do this, and now paid the price. I am a little happy though because I learned a lot, and I am now more certain of the quality and my ability to maintain/repair the phone. The Pro-1X will only be as good or better. Did more digging, and agree the Pro-1X is as compatible as it could possibly be including the battery. So I'll be ordering one on Indiegogo - along with the extra scr1 point

I use my Pro1 using LineageOS with two SIM cards and I have no problems with it. However, I have experienced a similar problem when VoLTE was enabled but Mobile Data was connected using the other card, so that may be the cause of such a problem. ...but otherwise it works well with 4G enabled, but only primary card can use 4G (by design, not limited to Pro1). So in a country (like in the USA) where 4G is the only option (so no 3G or 2G coverage), the usage of two SIM cards really does not work because of technical limitations.1 point

Oh... and the ugly: I lost the rubber microphone damper (for the main mic) somewhere on the floor while removing the back cover. Phone calls are still loud and clear, but now markedly more sensitive to slight hand movements or brushing of the phone against the ear etc. while talking 😞 Moral of the story: microphone dampers are important - don't lose them!!1 point

@SlionSadly all too true in general... However... 😃 !!! I FIXED IT !!! 😃 Disassembly was easy with guide referenced above on github. Actually impressed by how repairable this phone is. Removed battery (cell), did the "prick a hole in the cell to release the gas" trick (don't try this at home - see below). Put it back together and my phone is working just fine after 4 hours' careful work. Will be ordering a new battery from Indiegogo. Obviously, the battery is degraded but phone is working 100%. Yay! * * * The full story... Root cause analysis: I now think it1 point

Thanks for the advice & encouragement - I found the teardown guide thread and github (https://github.com/imax9000/fxtec-pro1-teardown) - as you say, does not look too bad. It may be something else, but phone expanding for no reason my first thought is always the battery! So definitely will open it and check, and if it is indeed the battery, nurse it along with no fast-charging (I am actually annoyed that it fast-charges, I don't need this, and it wears out the battery). I see the spare battery on Indiegogo, do you think the Pro1X spare battery is definitely the same as for the Pro1? K1 point

I haven't heard of any battery problems yet but the battery can be replaced relatively easily. However, I can not provide you any replacement battery sources except what you may find at their Indiegogo site (and which claims delivery next February if that is true). Anyway, currently I don't remember what an expanding battery may destruct inside (physically) but it may be a good idea to remove it before causing additional problems in the device...1 point

Update: fx support got back to me and offered a free replacement screen assembly, which they claim will become available some time in January. They also pointed me to an aliexpress seller and suggested if I want it fixed sooner, I could buy this at my own expense. With fx timelines being what they are, I am not holding my breath for January, so have ordered screen from Aliexpress. Meanwhile, my current screen has mainly settled down and just sometimes has that one unresponsive row, but no crazy random presses, thank goodness! It seems I may now have another major problem - the batter1 point

I just thought of a few more reasons why the z fold soft keyboard annoyed me. 6) There's no way to hold down a key to send multiple presses at once. For example, I'm using evil in emacs and I'm trying to go down some text; I can hold down the j key on my desktop to go down multiple lines quickly. However, with a soft keyboard holding down a key doesn't work that way. A key press only registers once you let go of the key. The only thing you can do with a long press is pop up a different symbol to input. Thus, I have to repeatedly press the key to go down one line at a time. So it's ju1 point

I woke up this morning to find my pro1 has expanded (case come unclipped along front of keyboard). I have not opened the shell to check but almost certainly it must be the battery. Has anyone else had an expanding battery? Is there any source of replacement batteries? Has anyone successfully replaced the battery?0 points

My stock Android 9 was working fine but I missed things like proper dark mode and full screen gesture navigation. LOS is far from bug free though. For instance I recently noticed one of my SIM cards won't receive calls when 4G is enabled. That is a major showstopper if you ask me. I have not bothered reporting that issue outside of those forum yet.0 points

I just had this issue for the first time yesterday (after only ever having run Lineage 18 on the phone since I got it a year ago). Rebooting appeared to solve it and everything seemed fine again. HOWEVER, this morning I noticed that my phone is expanding!! So I think I actually have a battery fault. Does anyone know anything about replacement batteries? Searching the forum, it does not look good!0 points
