This is because I have seen increased notifications from three other apps, which I'm sure weren't happening prior to this update. In particular, these were Tor Browser, Handy News Reader, and Etar. The behaviour is similar, in that a notification from these apps appears for a couple of seconds then disappears, with nothing of substance in the notification itself. In the case of Tor Browser, the notification icon is the exact same plain circle that Wireless Update shows (the others use their own icons). The timing of these phantom notifications is not the same as for Wireless Update - i.e. they don't seem to appear just by Wi-Fi turning off and on, but as I say, otherwise appear similar. I'm wondering if what is happening is that what were formerly background tasks that these apps were always doing are now being exposed to users? It could be that that security update itself took care of that. My guess is that something was fixed to prevent background services to hide themselves. TBH I like it. At least you know when something is going on. I too noticed a few other icons popping up, doing their thing and then vanishing again. ivoanjo 33 Posted July 3, 2020 Share Posted July 3, 2020 Yes, I use a Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro watch and indeed I've noticed more quick status notifications (that show for a second and then hide again) in the latest weeks from their sync app for Android. I use a Gear Frontier, but after previous experiences I've decided not to connect it via Galaxy Wear because it was an absolute nightmare with things complaining they couldn't connect. That's definitely not my experience -- I turn BT off from time to time, and I do get a notification telling me that the Gear has disconnected, but when I turn it back on it reconnects happily and without friction. I actually quite like Samsung's line, it's a pity that they are deliberately and by design holding it back -- I have a full linux machine attached to my wrist but it does very little apart from notifications, some very simplistic sleep/health tracking, and tell the time. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I'm experiencing this too, all kinds of very short "updates" all the time - Google Play Music for instance, and others I don't even remember right now, in addition to the Wireless Updater. Definitely feels like the latest update changed something in the background... No idea if this is related,or if I'm imagining this, but my phone also seems warmer since the latest update, especially when it's charging. The app, com.adups.fota, does not just "shine" with frequent notifications, it also comes with a Google ads activity, Google app measurement and Firebase messaging. These are things I do not want to see in a critical system app! Btw., the app is listening to a connectivity change, boot complete, date change, power disconnection and media mounting. I guess that's why it is checking for updates way too often, and showing a notification in the process ... I figured it was connecting to the 'update servers' or something but it really should not be notifying constantly when it only updates once a season. I agree, it is rubbing salt into the wound of lacking updates... I Stop the two "Wireless Update" processes manually after check, so I only see the notifications after boot. MickH 211 Posted August 15, 2020 Share Posted August 15, 2020 Well, I finally caved in and stopped the 2 wireless update processes yesterday, after sitting and watching the battery drain at 1% per minute, while the charger was plugged in. 🥺😥 Just did a check for updates and lo and behold the battery began draining again until I stopped the update processes again. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
