They will tell us another story like in the last two years. It's only over when it's over. As long as they haven't folded, I'll keep waiting for my Sept 2019 order, and if it will be 2023. Until now, judging from all former experience, there is no reason to believe they wouldn't eventually deliver, as disappointing as such a delay is and as much as I understand everyone who'll say ok, then I'll pass.4 points

I think we are having a terminological mix-up here. There are three possible elements being talked about here. There is the display itself. There is the frame for the display. And there is the upper housing. What @claude0001 is talking about, I think, is the frame. The frame is what separates out when you undo the 5 screws and disconnect the ribbon cable. I've always presumed that is what you sell as a replacement. It involves no gluing as the display is already set in the frame, but it also doesn't involve the hinges as they connect with the backplate which does not come off when you3 points

FYI. The USB port is higher up on the Pro1X. A case designed for the Pro1 wont suit it unless it's a full cutout to the edge. I'll update my model shortly.3 points

IdeaLTE just ditched them. They took the money and didn't fulfill the contract. What F(x)tec promised was what IdeaLTE was legally contracted to do for F(x)tec. It also included the batch of SD825 SoC for the Pro¹ igg batches. When there's something in court, that's standard practice. F(x)tec is in court with them. Given so, we only get some informal information here and there. Whatever F(x)tec mentions publicly or officially can be used against them.2 points

Even so that Snapdragon 835 devices reached their EOL on Feb 2022 (Linux kernel LTS) Qualcomm is still delivering some security updates to SD835 chipset. Also, Pixel 2 phones (same SD835 chip) received Android 11 update and security updates to the end of 2020 (or to April 2021 if you were Preferred Care customer). Considering that last update for Pro1 was on Aug 2020 (April 2020 security level and Android 9) things could have gone better. I don't know what was the reason that updates stopped and we never received Android 10, monthly security updates or Widevine fix. Maybe software develop2 points

After almost three years of waiting, I decided to write to FX Tec support and asked for a refund of the purchase price. I did not want to have a meanwhile technical outdated phone... After a few emails back and forth, the money was actually transferred back to me. Only the approximately 38 euros for the upgrade are not. But at least. So I say Goodbye to this community and wish you the best for receiving your phones soon... 🙂🙌1 point

Exactly, that's what I mean and what I tried to swap among my Pro1 and Pro1X. I also thought that was the unit you can obtain from f(x)tec as "replacement screen". Thanks for clarifying.1 point

You're right, our replacement parts for Pro1-X is the entire upper housing. But if you just want to change the screen, providing a detachable screen is enough. Changing the entire upper housing can be quite tricky as you'll be wiggling the hinges apart which may cause it to snap if not careful. We don't normally change the upper housing anyways (even with the Pro1) as there's no electrical components there (unless you somehow drop and break it). Replacing either the entire upper housing or just the detachable screen does not involve glueing, if that's what you're asking. Correc1 point

Yes, I mean the detachable screen itself, not the entire upper housing. All I did was connect the flat ribbon cable of the Pro1-X upper housing to the detachable Pro1 screen. We have spare Pro1-X screens in the warehouse which will be shipped to us once everything resumes, but we do have Pro1 screens and other spare parts in stock in our office if anyone is looking for a replacement etc.1 point

Makes me think it could be a good thing for Pro1 users to get a spare Pro1 screen (top unit) as long as they're available...1 point

Interesting. Just to be sure: When you say "screen" do you mean the entire top unit (detachable by 5 screws from the mechanism) or just the display (as available from e.g. Aliexpress) that is glued to the rest of the top unit? As reported above, I tried operating the Pro1X top unit on the Pro1. The display and digitizer seemed to work fine in recovery, but the Pro1 wouldn't boot into the full OS.1 point

Yes, the screen is the same, however I think there's some sw/hw compatibility issue with the Pro1 screen on the Pro1-X body. The selfie camera does not work and it force quits the camera app, and touch screen is not alway responsive. Not sure what the reason this is as the screen itself is the same model 🙂1 point

Or they had to choose another device because of actual availability or better long-term availability. The cause of the symptom above may not necessarily hardware issue but a problem with a kernel component which did not reveal while testing for Pro1 as it had different hardware. Also it may happen for Pro1 display to work on Pro1X also if it does not work the other way as a result of such problem.1 point

The catch here is that f(x)tec is NOT the software OEM of the Pro¹. The OEM is a Chinese company which ditched f(x)tec and they are the legal owners of the whole source code of Pro¹ with SD825 SoC. (Such code that had to be rewritten after they were ditched because they didn't have the rights to repurpose it)1 point

I guess you might be right. I was firmly assuming they had kept that unit identical to keep development cost low. But then, the different SoC on the other side may have dictated some modifications ... Retrospectively, I consider myself lucky not to have damaged anything with my bold move two days ago 😆. For those owning both a Pro1 and a Pro1X it would be good to know for sure, though.1 point

Unfortunately, the LineageOS developers hate to give status updates. So we only get glimpses when they appear...1 point

The problem is that security issues in the binary blobs owned by Qualcomm are not going to be fixed. Even LineageOS 19.1 is still on the "vendor security" level of April 2020.1 point

It may be better to buy a replacement screen from Aliexpress. Anyway, I have replaced the screen of my Pro1 four days ago because the last time I have tried to use another glue (a better one but maybe too old or applicating took too long) and bottom part (where internal ribbon cables are located) could move a little bit... so developed the usual ghost touch result... this time I glued it much better, it does not move at all. Anyway, this display has better colour temperatures at low brightness. However, basically I never drop my phone... however, after applying my new display fo1 point

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) unlock is needed when you want to unlock bootloader on your Pro1-X. Although having access to bootloader can allow you to root your device and flash custom ROMs, the downside is that you will no longer be able to use Google Mobile Services (GMS) such as Google Pay on your device. We firmly believe that by allowing users with more access and control over their devices can help them achieve more, which is why we shipped our Pro1-X’s with “OEM unlocked” by default to offer convenience when flashing other OS’s such as LineageOS and UbuntuTouch. How long should each of these processes take? My device gets to "firehose - Trying to read first storage sector..." and then just sits there.0 points
