Yeah its definitely something else and is early development. But that doesn't mean the hardware isn't solid its more software (saying that I bet its got less bugs than the pro1 😅 stock android) . And yes there is no reason any OS can't run on it as it's an open platform once modem has been full open sourced. Someone has already got android 10 running on a pine phone but no telephony but that will change once modem full open.

Yeah they always have had a good development community but they are all about open devices and code. Think they nearly have an open source version of the modem now as well

I posted about this keyboard mod a bit ago the keyboard is designed like the psion one like planet computers uses The keyboard attaches to the back of the phone I believe after removing the back cover I think it uses the extension GPIO points. It also has a huge battery inside the keyboard to phone battery life. Think what FxTec as doing with the moto mod phone. I believe also that more work has been done on the other OS than ubports but unfortunately I've not managed to get a device yet so can't say on that 😞 I am sure manjaro was more complete.

I think people also need to bear in mind there is a global semiconductor shortage across all areas. Small companies unfortunately are just not priority and have to take the left overs.

Yes I suspect this would be the case. Also one blueprint for the PCB won't necessarily switch anyway to another suppliers manufacturing process.

yes you need to side load the google apps you wish to use it tells you in the instructions a recommended one but I know people have switch to different google app bundles

This is why most companies have repair centers in place in different countries. At the end of the day it costs them more doing it in house as they still have to buy the parts and pay someone to diagnose and fit them and perform quality control. Corsair I know use a UK computer dealer (had to send PSU in that blew 2 month before warranty ended and they exchanged it for free and it was a better PSU result!)

Yeah would hope so. As I can't see a reason otherwise for it. I suspect the battery size is due to the slider mechanism not leaving room for something bigger.

Astro has taken a bit of a hit on last update they have finalised the specs and had to use the mediatek 800 instead of the 1000 as they wouldn't license it to them! I suspect they are having FAB problems like everyone else though nothing sinister 😄 They have put more RAM in it though and now has a AMOLED display and camera is a Sony 48MP one.
