  1. Having much experience, they might do a better job than anyone of us. However, also they might break off these grounding contacts bridging the seam between body and keyboard plate if not specifically briefed. The point is that the Pro1(-X)'s battery is not meant to be customer-replaceable. It can be done, yes, but there is a risk of breaking things.

  2. Well they sort of did things the other way round. They produced the device, to a stage where they only needed to know how many they should produce, before going for crowdfunding. A bit unusual, but obviously crowdfunding can be used as a pure sales channel too. How they managed to ship it I do not know, My GUESS is it is/was easier for a Chinese company to ship out, than for foreign companies? But just my guess. Also remember that personal contacts is very important for Chinese deals to go forward, and as people was prohibited from going in from abroad, neither FxTec nor Planet could meet

  3. New screen (glass + digitiser) to replace broken pro1 screen arrived at 11 ish this morning and was fitted and phone nicely working 1/2 hour later. Support sent a link to the How to video and that was helpful. Nice and simple fix, although obvs the more expensive route.

  4. Fully agree. Opening the base of the phones is nowhere a fool-proof operation. I broke-off several of the grounding-spring connectors (contacting the mainboard to the aluminium shell) of my Pro1-X while leveraging the case open. Happens when you slide the prying tool along the seam between body and keyboard plate without knowing in advance where those contacts are ...

  5. Oh come on. @mattock kindly informs us that he found a way and found it was a fairly easy operation. Don't put more into it. I agree that @mattock didn't warrant becoming chided for his helpful comment. Unfortunately, though, I also have to agree with @steff that, despite mattock's suggestion, changing the battery definitely is a far more dangerous operation than I would have thought before opening the Pro1 myself to replace the broken USB connector. While I'm far from being a precision mechanic, I wouldn't call myself clumsy, either. But I managed to destroy the fingerprint sca

  6. To be fair, the Pro1-X was initially quite close to that same idea. At the start of the IGG campaign, the Pro1 not only existed, but had been field-tested by quite a few customers already. The alternative OS's -- then the "big thing" about the Pro1-X -- were already available in either rock-solid (LineageOS) or beta-quality (UBTouch) form. Yes, you could add more memory and get a shiny blue body with custom engraving. But no one really expected any showstoppers there, given that the phone would technically remain a Pro1. In my view, the Pro1-X campaign was initially intended purely

Do not expect posts in here to have their wording carefully chosen so that a lawyer can not find a loophole in it... This as a user-to-user forum, not official statements from FxTec (Unless from an FxTec account). When I tell in a post that I did something, it does not imply that everyone should do the same (or even could), nor will it always contain a disclaimer for any side-effects. And I certainly don't expect it from others in here.

  8. Then your girlfriend would send the phone in for repairs to the UK, as I have (from the US) twice with my Pro 1. I wouldn't choose to do what @mattockdid either. I'm not very technical. Stuff happens, but I've always had good CS from F(x) Tec. While he said anyone can, I wouldn't, and I don't think he said everyone should.

  9. Yes, band switching many times, especially Band3/7/8. Sometimes Band1/28. I'm in KL.

  10. Ummmm... I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with. @mattockdidn't say it was a good thing to have to recover from a dead battery, or that Lineage shouldn't have been pre-installed. He just said being able to get Lineage was what finally motivated him to figure out the battery. 😄

  11. Did you experience band switching like mine? I am in Malaysia too

  12. Hi, I'm living in Malaysia. I'm also facing unstable connectivity issue on Band3/7 with my Pro1X. My finding is when I traveled to Thai last week, connectivity was OK. At that time, I didn't check which Band was connected, but it seems Band1 is common in Thai. Besides, I'm checking Japanese BBS about Pro1/Pro1x recently. No one report connectivity issue as far as I know. Band1 is common in Japan as well.

  13. When I have first tried the phone, as far as I remember well, I had a Telekom Hungary card inserted. I had both problems - problem on receiving and initiating calls, but first call worked after restart (maybe modem standby issue). I haven't checked it since a while and currently it also has a Telenor Hungary card inserted which also had similar problem but in dual-SIM configuration. I may also check it using Telekom/Telenor/Vodafone Hungary if that matters (in one-SIM configuration) but as far as I remember well, they use similar frequency bands.

  14. My hardware solution to having a totally flat battery has succeeded! It requires dismantling the phone, but it works and I have photos to illustrate. As soon as I get time I'll get them up on this forum NB I was spurred to this course of action by the Lineageos release which went straight on the pro1x without issue. If I can, anyone can recover from a dead battery

  15. To help you create your own custom keymaps, I updated @Slion's excellent keyboard map for the Pro1-X QWERTY layout and added the key numbers for each of the six modifier keys ('F logo' Fx, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, and right and left "yellow arrow" Fn). Remember that the two Shift keys are actually the same, as are the two Ctrl keys. Unfortunately, you can't map right and left Shift to different key codes, or right and left Ctrl either 🙁

  16. "We are currently experiencing an issue with our online payments provider due to an increased sum of refunds over the past few months. The amount you are owed, will definitely get back to you, but it could take up to 3 months. We understand this is far from ideal. On behalf of our payments provider, we apologise for the delay."
