Hey, not only the USA is waiting, we're all in one boat here :-D. I'd also kinda given up hope for good qwerty phones before Pro1 came along, but here we are, welcome! Shameless promotion: we also have an unofficial discord full of rabid nerds to ease the waiting https://discord.gg/k4NtAGy

Oh shit.. also microphones!! I remember a certain disaster talking about this xD. Had to replace screen and a microphone and the front "glass" (polycarbonate, actual glass would have lived probably).

keep contact cleaner far away from lcd screens is my additional advice on this (it can get between the screen and backlight (and the layers of the backlight itself) and make those all ugly).

The real dream is the phone 😉 A bit slow to come sure and the one forum thread has gone pitchforks and torches, it's still a startup xD. But I'm still excited.

I had a pallet full of drywall delivered today, it was a struggle and we destroyed the plants on the driveway by crashing it on there from a crane-truck-thing :).

And if it does, can you have an esim, a normal sim, and a microSD card at the same time?

Notice regarding getting Google SafetyNet Certified software

Luckily that isn't legal currently, or is it? Certainly a scenario that could happen eventually though. -
Notice regarding getting Google SafetyNet Certified software

Although less outspoken about it, I'm also in the camp who does not like google and I intend to remove as much of the google apps as I can or use Lineage (although both are Android which is made by google but anyway). The sneaky thing about google is that it tries to gather as much data about you as it possibly can and uses it for profit, even when you try to turn it off there is always hidden stuff buried in menus in my experience and then it will for example ask me how did I like the supermarket or bar I just went to, why does it know this and why does it need to know it? And maybe fair enou -
Addendum to that xda video:

Current situation from what I see it is just: - Delays happen because this is what it is, startup company making a phone, it is entirely normal. - Don't know exactly when ready, but very soon now! - Not everyone is comfortable waiting with only the above info.

And moto mod had issues with third parties which could probably never be resolved, yet Chen handled it like a champion and a winner. And I am certain the lessons learned will help to make the Pro1 successful :).

It also happening with swiftkey pretty much rules out keyboard app being at fault I guess :). -
It's not shown as recommended though. If I am right it needs to be available for direct purchase + support a couple of "bulk enrollment" things before it would be able to go on the recommended list: https://androidenterprisepartners.withgoogle.com/glossary/device/

I'm asking it because it's possible (although somewhat unlikely) that the IME somehow stops passing trough hardware keys (even with sw keyboard invisible), so maybe the info turns out usable later :). Does @EskeRahn use FinQwerty also? -

Do you use the software keyboard app that came on the phone or something different? -
A fresh one has landed!

What do "system-as-root" and "A/B device" mean?
netman replied to netman's topic in General Discussion
All other phones that I've had that is the easy way to install TWRP, and TWRP is the new safe space... Or am I mistaken and it's another partition that normally overwritten with TWRP? -

netman replied to netman's topic in General Discussion
The problem with that is that the partition has to be R/W mounted in it's entirety which means an unexpected crash or power loss could destroy the metadata beyond repair when unlucky. I've seen this happen. Journalling filesystems are the solution for this but they are not quite as bulletproof as just having one mounted RO and the other R/W. -
Talk about competing though...
-
I also feel they're for a different use case or perhaps different type of user, I think majority of people would think that way... Competitor does come to mind as a term regardless for anyone else selling a phone but i could certainly imagine owning both a Cosmo and Pro1 for different time of the day, although I would probably first consider something the likes of a GPD pocket as competition for Cosmo.

The past has taught me to avoid Mediatek like it was an illness, I'm confident the SD835 is better. No numbers though so take my words with about half a bag of salt 😂. I somewhat agree, but with how cheap & cheerful it is I may buy one eventually as an extra phone (not as pre-order tho, I'll await the reviews). What bothers me is the humongous size, mediatek SoC and lack of a control key and some other keys probably. But it is a keyboard phone in 2019 (or i guess 2020, iirc they are only planning to ship early next year, could be mistaken) so it gets a shitload of cool points still

On the forum here and a few other sources I learned that the Pro1 uses "system-as-root" for the stock rom which seems partly self explanatory to a linux guy and a quick search does tell me approximately what it means. There's also talk of it being an "A/B device" which also appears to be about the partition table (and not really the device since we can run different operating systems :-), and that appears to be needed for seamless updates. But I am still left wondering what does it all mean exactly and why it is chosen to be so? System-as-root seems to have a downside being that we can no
