I think Managing Director was meant by MD. But I like the diploma offer! 😁 -
[Guide] PRO1, Restore to stock firmware using Fastboot method

Awesome, thank you! -
Fair enough... I've never broken a phone through dropping, just scuffs/dents. It's often my kids trying to grab it from my hands that causes it! 😂 Oh, or the one before last Sony phone I had that was really smooth and hard to grip firmly!
-
I'll choo choo to that.

Thanks for your work on this, very helpful!

Thank you for another update written with openness. I personally am disappointed by the lack of case, since where am I to get one otherwise? And the lack of clarity about it. A sleeve is of no use, because it won't be on the phone during use which is the most likely time for dropping it. But it is not a massive issue and it makes complete sense about the difficulties based on the unique design of the Pro1, and I can understand why no case is better than a bad case! It's a tough job you're doing, bringing this product to market, and I do appreciate the challenges you must be facing.

Thank you for the open and clear update. It's much appreciated. Do you have any estimate when the next (second) batch will leave China?

It's worked out the other way around for me. I *was* doing this, back in June and July. I was showing friends and colleagues the website, and enthusing about the phone and the potential return of hardware keyboards. Now those people look at me like I've fallen for a scam. And after the months of vague, misleading, or dishonest-by-omission, communications from FXtec I'm almost ready to agree with them. If I ever get the phone, and if it turns out to be as good as we all hope, then I'll happily evangelise for them, but right now I'll keep telling people "it's a nice idea for a phone, but no

A cynical person might say that the update from Erik is a distraction from the apparent lack of any of the tracking numbers that Liangchen suggested on Monday were "likely" by today. Good thing there are no cynical people on this forum.

It's good that support have given you that relatively comprehensive response. Not wishing to jump straight on the negative, but last week they told me that the second batch is following 'mid November', not 'by the end of November'. It may be that the support person is referring to a different stage of what people here have clearly identified as a complex, multi-stage, shipping process. I wish they'd get their terminology correct in that case. I, and I know many others, don't really care when the devices leave the factory. I just want to know when mine will be with me.
-
They got tired and requested refunds 😂
-
Is the 'new batch' the second, or third, I wonder?

You're right there. This is very subjective. Personally, my phone has become my de facto primary computing device. (Which makes these delays very annoying as I'm currently using an old phone that I only expected to need up until July.) My PC is in storage (don't have room since having kids) and while I have a laptop, I don't have all that much opportunity to sit and use it. I do most things I would need it for on my phone. At the moment that means some text-heavy tasks get put off or not done because they're so time-consuming or just annoying to do on a phone. I'm hoping a dec

What you've said makes a lot of sense. You know it's funny, looking back and thinking about how my own attitude has changed. I remember telling people at work about the phone excitedly. Then later when those people asked about it I remember explaining about the delay and saying "oh you know, small UK startup". But I don't feel like that know. I still want the phone but I don't have much faith in FXtec right now. And yes, the case was a dick move, which has contributed to my feelings.

Another masterful summary there, David.

I don't think it's because of the delays. The communication has been so bad - in fact bordering on dishonest, some people have said - that there's a feeling almost of customers being cheated. I believe a lot of the cancellations and threats to do so are essentially a protest. FXtec aren't listening to people on the forum. The customer support doesn't seem to know or be able to do much beyond vague responses. But there's one thing that people can do to send a clear message to FXtec.
-
That is a worry. I'm trying to weigh up my current phone being on its way out as well. My thinking right now is another week, and if I don't hear about anyone having actually received a phone, I'll have to cancel.
-
I think you're right. When I saw that tweet I thought "isn't that what happened on the 29th?" This confusing mix of terms is not helpful. All of this lengthy discussion here is because people are trying to find the answer to one single simple question: "when will I have my phone in my hands". And it is simple, even if the answer is "we don't know". But that hasn't been easy to work out based on the official comms. And it feels like everything is an effort to avoid committing to a date.
-
Thanks for the detailed thoughts there. I think you're right. Where they've fallen down isn't in what they're trying to achieve, or how, but simply in how they communicate about it. If someone at FXtec had written what you just set out, ending it with "sorry, this is why it's taking a while, please bear with us", I'd feel happier. I can't believe they're so naive as to not realise that when they sent out a big official notice to all customers, saying "we're starting to ship on 29/10" that they didn't realise customers would begin to expect their devices early in November. They c

This is how I feel. The communications were poor, but now they seem to have given up and think it's ok to just maintain silence. (Apart from the odd snarky comment on twitter from Liangchen.) If anyone's interested to hear, I also e-mailed support, and was told that my 17xxx order number should be in the mid-November batch, which they confirmed meant getting to me in early December. I thought I'd contact them because my old phone is on its last legs and I seriously need to decide if I keep on waiting or cancel. At this point I want to wait, but am just finding I don't t

I wonder what level of support will be available from FXtec for these sorts of things? For example will an original Android image be available so that if we try Sailfish or Lineage and don't get on, we can restore to the factory OS?

I'm not sure how to read that? Is that next batch on its way from China? Or is that the stock that people had confirmed now being shipped to them? I guess it's the latter.
-
I was going to say similar. The reason some folk are getting a bit obsessive about order numbers and batches is because there's no information from FXtec.

@Erik Is alive! Hurrah! 😉 Thanks for the clarifications.
