F(x)tec and the shops. They weren't on the same schedule, and have been in talks since the pre-order period. People pre-ordered on the same day they opened up, so it's obvious people ordered before the shops.

I honestly expected this. They wouldn't just tell their business partners that there won't be any devices since those made big promises as well.

But what really disappoints me is the information policy. They told us that there were more problems with the production, light leaks, shit like that. They had to knew that this would be coming out but they straightly lied to us again.

And I also think that their preorders, motomod supporters and so on are more important than some resellers. They may feel different, but without all the community support and input they provided, the phone just wouldn't exist. And without their money, fxtec would probably have gone bankrupt already.

 

Please post traders who got this phone. If there's any in reach, I will buy it from them (I'd even drive to Switzerland) and FxTec will never see me again.

Not because of the miscommunication (I will still assume it was not out of malevolence, but incompetence and poor judgement on the part of the PR team in F(x)Tec), but because of a few different factors, I decided not to buy the Pro1 in the end. 

As someone here already pointed out, because of all the delays, if I could even get hold of the phone in Q1 2020, it will be based on a 3 year old chip that peformance-wise is now on par with 7xx series or maybe even the higher end of 6xx chips in Qualcomm's offering. While I couldn't care less about the performance drop, the chip being 3 years old means it will not get any love from the manufacturer, no patches or updates. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Maybe F(x)tec guys will pull off a miracle and update the phone to Android Q, but I think that's as far as it will go. And that means IMHO this would not be a long term device for me, at least not as long term as I would've hoped had I forked out north of 700 EUR for it. 

What tipped the scale however was that I found what looks to be an amazing bargain black friday deal to get a Mi Mix 3 5G for 320 USD shipped and delivered (snapdragon 855, 6gb ram 128gb rom, 5g network support that's just round the corner in my country). It's still a slider phone in an aluminium ceramic combination of materials and it's just drop dead gorgeous ;). Yes, no physical keyboard but I would've been more beat down by this shortcoming if the pro1 was in the form factor of a nokia e72 or the blackberry bolds if You will. The pro1 isn't that however, maybe pro2 will be and then I'll reconsider my decision, but for now I'm just happy with the new toy :)

And my new year's resolution is to learn how to build android roms, cause there isn't a single one for this phone and I'm condemned to use the MIUI which is just shambles (don't judge me here, I knew all that before I pressed the buy button).

I hope I won't get banned from the forum, and who knows, if one of the next phones F(x)tec make will be my dream form factor, I'll get it. I wish everyone waiting for their Pro1 a Christmas miracle, may You find the phone under the Christmas tree! :) And all in all, a happy, healthy Christmas time with Your loved ones.

 

As for the accusation at the start of this thread, it may very well be true, but given the ridiculously low stock volumes these resellers had I would at least consider giving the F(x)tec people the benefit of the doubt in thinking that maybe, just maybe, these small resellers preordered their phones just like many other people did. You're not talking amazon scale of resellers after all...

Some resellers and FxTec (Eric) affirmed that these phones were not regularly preordered, but they sent them a (small) batch anyways to allow christmas shipping for the resellers.

It's a market decision to ship to resellers first in order to earn some more money and reputation. But apart from these wrong timelines they still follow (we've reached 3/10 of preorders and again they talk about shipping by end of january), this is a decision against the entire community which worked hard to make this happen.

I stand corrected then, didn't know this has been confirmed. Not great, but with proper communication *BEFORE* this decision was executed, I think the community here would've been more keen to understand the reasons behind that decision. Yet another show of just downright appalling job by the PR people.

Snapdragon 835 is still at the same level with 730 or 730G on performance. CPU is little bit behind 730G but GPU is more powerful. Of course, it is not as power-efficient as newer 730G but very good anyway (10nm node). Also, keep in mind that Google Pixel 2 uses same chipset than Pro1 and Google has guaranteed to update Pixel 2 to Android R (or 11). Android updates are not tied to chipset manufacturer support anymore since Project Treble came in. There are other changes as well. The Linux Long-Term Support is now 6 years instead of 2 years. In my opinion, Snapdragon 835 was very good selection if it was necessary to save costs.

Even so that still gives my 855 snappy a lifespan of close to 6 years assuming the hardware will be as solid as it first seems, compared to possibly up to 3 years on the pro1. For less than half the pesos. And I'm not saying one can't live without kernel updates - far from it, I've had my Mi Max Prime for over 3 years now, last 2 of those without any ROM updates to speak of.

It's more of a "having an umbrella and not needing it vs needing it and not having" kind of situation. If there's a serious security bug discovered, like the ssl bleed or the spectre /meltdown stuff they found in chips not long ago, I'd like to know I can get a patch rather than a new device. 

It hurts me to say it, but having read the Pro1's review on androidauthority (see the link in the reviews thread), I'm even more convinced I made the right decision.

I don't get your update-fear. I have a Samsung Note 1 sitting in my desk's drawer with Android 8 on it (as I bought the device in 2012 it cam with 2.7 IIRC).

(It's running Android 8 and not 9, because I didn't use it for more than a year and therefore didn't bother to update)

Why would a Snapdragon 835 be a problem? I am currently using a 825 and I could be happy with that little bugger for the next 10yrs to come, wouldn't the device lack a keyboard, that is.. 😉

835 ups the performance by around 30% - which is 30% faster than "already more than fast enough" in my book - but I'm not a [cellphone-]gamer..

Newer chip would make the lifespan longer but I think that F(x)tec can do well enough with Snapdragon 835 also. Most manufactures doesn't even support their products over 2 years. Vulnerability patches can be implemented without the newest kernel in many situations. Even if F(x)tec is not able to support Pro1 many years, the community can help. For example, I have Nexus 5 (released 2013) running Android Pie 9.0 with latest security level.

That's not true. A partner retailer in Switzerland expected stock by the end of this month as everyone else did, but they're not getting stock until the end of January - again, like everyone else.

They have been accepting pre-orders, but they are not shipping anything until general availability by the end of January.

Given the previous misinformation, we completely understand, and in a way, expect your doubts about your orders, and us in general. However, as mentioned before, retailers such as Clove and Dragonbox have been in discussions with us since MWC before any of the pre-orders were placed. The amount of devices Clove and Dragonbox had was extremely small, and is nowhere near comparable to what we have shipped to our pre-orders, and what we still have to ship. Our pre-orders are our first priority.

To send direct produced phones to reseller and use the hype on the phone will generate new money. The Reseller will order new phones and so on.

Pre-Order people like me and all others here are a piece of shit and we finance the first production without interest...better like a bank 😄 😄
