Since I dabbled quite a lot in Symbian modding back in the day (mostly widget and theme mods, editing the SVGs and the .000000 hex files), I took an hour off today, disassembled and brought back to life my old Nokia E7-00. 🙂 I love the design and am so happy that the Pro1 continues that line. Truth be told I am a fan of Bauhaus and Dieter Rams 8 degree slant on his audio 308 turntable, so this might have something to do with my fascination with this phone form factor. Nothing important here, just noticing things. 😄6 points

Just when I was prepared to wait another six or more months for the Pro¹ (or now rather Pro¹ X) I had ordered in September 2019, now I got lucky – and my hands on a used device! It came with (non-rooted) LineageOS 17.1 (February 15 update installed like a charm from within the system menu) and all the apps I need work, even banking and the health insurer's app (and Netflix via APK), except only one, the "Entrust IdentityGuard Mobile Softtoken" app for connecting to my employer's VPN from the home office. For the time being, I guess I'll just keep my old phone lying on my desk.5 points

If you are like me, you're an Android enthusiast and you love how the keyboard on the F(x)tec Pro1 makes it feel like a miniature laptop. However, you must have also noticed that most of Android isn't built for landscape use. I've thought about it for a bit, and I decided to make a Tasker profile that seamlessly changes DPI when the keyboard is opened. Assuming your close-up eyesight is fine, this allows much more information to be displayed on the screen in landscape mode, and gives Chrome desktop-like tabs at the top (basically a tablet mode). Since I am loving it so much, I bet there's at l4 points

Here's my small collection of sliders; Nokia N900 on the left, and Xperia Play on the right. I haven't found a cheap E7 yet to score once again. I've always dreamed of the Nokia N950 though. The developer-only phone with - what seemed to be - a decent camera (back when I thought that was entirely dependent on the number of megapixels, and the ability to autofocus). I'm just glad the F(x)tec Pro1 exists to fill the gap in this era.3 points

Yes and Yes. So I tried 2 things: 1) I disabled Contacts+ as the default app ane enabled phone Still no thing. 2) I reinstalled an old APK for the version of Contacts+ that I like. Magic better. And all my apps are set to never updated. I hate updates. Updates suck. But it may have been the battery pull thing that you had me do. Regardless... problem solved and thank you all!2 points

The N950 was the holy grail for me too. Still didn't manage to get my hands on one. I have an N900, an Ngage QD, a 6600, an E6, a BlackBerry Priv and an Asus SL101 tablet in my "collection", all working. I regret not getting an Xperia Play when I came across it at the flea market a couple of years ago. I eventually turned the E6 into a retro-futuristic "PC". https://builds.gg/builds/lina-126412 points

Got a similar reaction. As if older people would be the more tech savvy ones that would need a keyboard. :))2 points

I myself could never get used to my brother's ole' HTC Desire Z, simply because the screen didn't tilt up. I fell in love with the Nokia E7 as well when I was about 15 years old (time flies, but also, I'm still pretty young). I remember selling it to some older man, who gave me a confused look and said: "why does someone like you have a device like this?", clearly indicating that keyboards on Symbian phones are for grown men only. To which I replied: "I... collect phones?". Still true, to this day. But I think it's pretty hilarious to think of a 15 year old boy saving up to buy his next cheap,2 points

I am willing to pay full retail price for a decent second-hand pro1 to be shipped to the netherlands. Qwerty would be ideal for me.2 points

This prototype keyboard (from the video in the manufacturer's February Update), which, rather than a slider, is a separate clamshell design the phone itself somehow has to be attached to, is still missing the kneecaps keycaps. As far as I can see, this is an affordable lower-end phone that exclusively runs Linux. After different experimental versions it will now ship with Plasma Mobile on Manjaro.1 point

So I'm assuming you Contacts app also is your phone app? Is it selected still in Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Default apps?1 point
-
No. It literally does the same thing a battery pull would do. Doesn't touch your apps. I don't know exactly why it solves problems, but I know in the old days pulling a battery from a phone (like blackberries) would also solve wonkiness often.1 point

You're obviously talented. I can't do that single-handed half a year into using the phone 🙂. I did stop training after the Pro1 almost jumped out of my hand once. Congrats on your purchase. This user forum naturally tends to over-emphasise the problems of the Pro1. All-in-all, it is a quite solid phone. While there certainly are devices with significant manufacturing flaws, I suspect they are a very small minority.1 point

I know this sounds silly but try two things. First, go into settings -> apps and clear chache on the phone app. Then do a simulated battery pull. This is done by holding the power button. Keep holding it (ignore the pop-up shutdown menu) until the Pro1 spontaneously restarts. This is my go to whenever I get inexplicable wonky behavior. It works for lot of cases. Don't know if it will solve yours, but unless yours is a messed up proximity sensor, it's all I've got. 😉1 point

Just like how it was at my first experience (but my display came up after several seconds, let's say 10-20). Now it is relatively good as it does not turn the screen on, but I can turn it on by power button, then click on continue call, then accept it... These are two "different systems", so after another factory restore.1 point

I think such problem may happen using stock Android. I used to have black screen during the phone ringing while it turned on the screen after several ringings, so I could accept the call. One of my friends had similar problem on his replacement unit. I have also experienced reboot loop after restarting the phone for hours before it booted up properly. Later, I have experienced the same reboot loop upon connecting charger cable. After factory reset, the problem disappeared while I have no applications installed but started again after all the applications restored. After a1 point

You have probably enabled "Power button ends call" feature from Accessibility settings. Disabling that feature should allow you to answer calls. However, I don't know what causes black screen.1 point

I'm sorry to say that while I did have that exact same issue once with an earlier phone (guess it was the BlackBerry PRIV) I couldn't for the life of me recall how I got it fixed. What I remember is that it must have been some kind of setting (so there's probably nothing broken)...1 point

I would still recommend to test it, they usually just wrap around ignoring the higher addressing, so when it goes beyond the limit it will write into your existing data. It might still look OK at a directory-level, but with some file-content smashed....1 point

I'm still figuring out when I want to use the physical keyboard (for now, mostly for fun or when browsing the web), other times I simply use Google Keyboard which is much faster for me with suggestions on, to text friends and such. I personally want my F(x)tec Pro1 to feel like any other smartphone in portrait mode, with apps and in-app buttons being quite large, and be able to switch to the physical keyboard when I want more of a laptop/productivity feel for the device, with the display size and fonts being much smaller, and getting the full desktop sites in Chrome. In Samsung's official shop [samsung.com] I cannot find any micro-SDs larger than 512 GB, and those are already more expensive than that. I also think you should test the card before you rely on it.1 point
-
Are you sure it has real 2TB capacity? I suggest you to check it using H2testw under Windows or F3 under Linux / MAC. It sounds too good to be true. Basically the tools above write data to the card, then read it back and show if data was corrupted. If you connect the card using USB 3.0 interface, it should work relatively fast. If it is too slow for other reason, then it is most likely a fake card. If it has corrupted readback, then it is a fake card. If you use a fake card, then it initially looks good, but you will loose your data as it will overwrite itself when1 point

Well I agree on that one, this is BS. It should be forbidden by IGG but is indeed encouraged: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/204509388-Running-Your-Campaign I don't like the fact that they are doing it, I think it is shady. But the truth is, if you buy something in a store and it gets discounted 5 minutes later you are at the same point. It is a normal thing to do. Have limited stock on promotional wares. You want to drive people to your store (or project) with cheap promotions, chances are high they are buying something once there are there. Even if the reason they1 point

It is possible to upgrade the storage and RAM chip but you would need special tools for it. I have seen people doing it with Nexus devices. Also, RAM and CPU are usually tied together (soldered on top of each other) which makes it even harder process. I see your point, and I even might offer to pay for the difference, too. Still I guess it would mean additional expenditures for Fxtec to handle those new payments. More importantly, other poeple might not want to pay the difference and would rather go with what Fxtec has announced. Fxtec can hardly do both, which would mean developing two new phones with even lower quantities than one new phone would imply. So they have to decide which way to go, and as it would be worse making people pay who don't want to, they go the cheaper route. Personally, as I said, I don't care for "benchmar1 point
