There was an attempt to publish it on F-Droid but it was rejected because it uses Firebase. To be fair an F-Droid release would not give you much over the download variant which has a built-in check for update. You can also disable Firebase from the settings. I'm trying to get it on Playstore in an attempt to monetize to hopefully bring much needed features. F-Droid won't help me with monetizing.

Now the big question is how do we make sure FxTec is taking those suggestions into account? @Erik @Waxberry

Now that we do know Del can easily be moved to a secondary function of Backspace on Android I've updated my suggested layout there: For clarity those layouts are only showing the unmodified and shift modified layers. I've put Del as Shift + Backspace even though to be correct and since this is a device specific feature it should really be Fn+Backspace however those kind of details don't really matter at this stage and if implemented properly this could all be fine tuned using custom layouts.

I just tested Fn+Backspace to do Del on Fx Qwerty and that works just fine. It should work the same with any other modifier. I see no reason why this should not be doable on the other operating systems either. That means we should really push to have FxTec remove the dedicated Del key. Note: confusingly in the Android API Backspace is actually called DEL and Del is called FORWARD_DEL.

I was sent not so long ago a refurbished unit from FxTec with similar damage. Not quite as bad as that though.

One would hope so. They are even selling that Pro1 X perks bundled with a replacement screen. I'm thinking screen assembly are much easier to produce than the whole phone.

Back then it was a question. Nine months later it is a fact: call quality on Pro1 is far from satisfactory. So much so that when I'm home and need to video chat I make sure I use another device. It comes as no surprise though as call experience usually needs engineers and QA teams to work closely together to fine tune it and FxTec is unlikely to be able to afford it any time soon. On the plus side I'm confident most issues could be fixed or worked around in software so we can still hope that call quality will improve through firmware upgrade. Maybe Android 10 could help, who knows.

Have you contacted support to ask for a replacement screen? It sounds like it is roughly on the same line than mine was.

I reckon FxTec should send all of us on this thread a free Pro1 keyboard upgrade kit when this is all over 🤣

@matfYou forgot Ctrls are hardwired. Also I rather have Shift, Ctrl and Fn in the left corner as that's how it is on most keyboards these days. Except ThinkPads 🤣

I can't make up my mind about not having a dedicated key for Del. It's very tempting. However, won't some OS miss having it for Ctrl + Alt + Del? I guess that should still work but with four fingers instead of three.

On Android I'm pretty sure that can be achieved from the layout configuration. In any case it should not be hardcoded in the driver even though @tdm might disagree with that. From the layout you should be able to to map Shift+Backspace into Del.

I thought of that one too and I quite like it. That one is rather useless it does not even feature anymore in modern keyboards, say for the past 5 years or so.

If it was I would have been fast enough to order one of those super early bird perks 😁

I've had the screen unlocking during phone calls just a couple times. Then again I don't do traditional phone calls so much. It's been mostly working fine for me. However the sensor is indeed slow to respond and I'm pretty sure that's a software issue. Maybe you need to get close to the sensor without touching the screen for a few seconds before resting your face on it. Pro1 indeed needs much improvement when it comes to call quality. Indeed we should, only ThinkPads are controversially swapping Fn and Ctrl on the left side 🤣

The main purpose of that thread is to come up with a layout that does not need symbols on letter keys. Instead we used Sym as the missing key. Also Yellow Arrow is in fact Fn aka Function which is wildly used on any compact keyboard to access device specific functionalities include common symbols from missing keys. We ought to get rid of that term. Yellow labels should be used for Shift if we want to keep printed yellow labels.

That would be serving the specific interested of the QWERTY US Int. layout to the detriment of the basic QWERTY US layout. Then again if implemented properly no functionality should be lost either way.
