[Guide] PRO1, Restore to stock firmware using Fastboot method
silversolver replied to Waxberry's topic in Support
Yes, agreed, but I didn't mean an out-of-box stock ROM, but a fastboot stock ROM that was available for people like us to add later. I'm aware that we can remove the GcrApps, but it would be cleaner if it just weren't there ever. Essentially, I'd like to be able to benefit from the extensive software polishing that they are doing without having to yank sCroogle out manually. Oh well. -
[Guide] PRO1, Restore to stock firmware using Fastboot method

What are the odds of a stock ROM with no GcrApps in it and root access via settings switch like Lineage? 😉 -
Can the bootloader be locked?

Is it easily decrypted? -
I'd rather have a polished 9 before they start hacking on 10 LOL
-
I can afford to lose my investment in my Pro1 if the ship sinks, though I don't see that happening, and I fully expect to have it before 2020, but again, I can wait longer if need be. My Droid 4 and Priv still work.

Clack kills—say no to clack? Wait.....

Love's more comfortable the second time around LOL

The finish line. :)

I still have my Droid 4 daily driver, a Priv, and even an original droid that still work just fine if the need arises. For people who don't hoard old but still-working devices like I do, I can see where the frustration would be worse. I have 2 fully-functional and fairly friendly keyboard phones in my life; for people who gave up and went slab, or are limping even older stuff than I am, the desperation level would be higher.

BOO!!!! Why on earth would you do that?! Then if (when?) you decide you'd like one again later, you're paying more. So weird to quit a marathon at mile 25.9.......

When someone impugns your honor and the integrity of the project into which you've poured your life for years, it's upsetting. Certainly it wasn't the nicest response, but very understandable.

buggy software, probably going out of business and nobody will get them.....lots of negativity for all.
-
Thank you! There's been enough complaining on that topic, and honestly, the OP resorted to casting aspersions in his second post too. I find it amusing that someone with such negative ideas about this whole thing would even wish to own a Pro1.....or is s/he just trying to negativize us so s/he can perhaps get a device from someone who becomes disillusioned with the device they received due to badmouthing? Not terribly likely to work in that case, for the reasons everyone has already stated.

We can just do this as our own thing without their blessing, and even invite them LOL.

First Impressions Sailfish (3.2.0.12) on the Pro1
silversolver replied to Popanz's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Ooh, now I really need to explore this LOL. But why would community versions apparently be available anywhere, whereas the official version with aliendalvik is not? I strongly suspect software patents are the issue here. -
Yep......betting no one who already has one will part with it for less than 1K before general availability hits.
-
If that is the case, you're not offering anything any better than what the next guy is offering. Starting a business and launching a new product are difficult, and things happen. When your product is leaps and bounds better than anything else available, people will be more patient with difficulties. That said, yes, consumers are demanding whiny brats who have tantrums when they don't get their candy on time. Let's not forget that we're discussing a luxury item here, not our daily bread.

Compatibility with Wireless Emergency Alerts

Thank you for sharing this. -
It seems like Adups was selected in the effort to find something they could afford that would assure easy, seamless updates for the two users who will actually use the stock firmware. If Waxberry is convinced that the company is going to do the right thing, I see no reason we should doubt that. I will probably add LineageOS myself, but primarily to get rid of the GcrApps and add long press on back button to kill the running app.
-
For the US, it will sorta work out that way just because customs blocked the first batch.
-
Waxberry clearly believes that the company will honor the terms of their agreement and not spy on the Pro1's customers. The remark "Adups has changed their service since last year and there should not be things under the table" makes me think GDPR forced them to change some things.
-
@Erik, do you know if the official reversion ROM for bootloader use will receive this update at the same time?
-
I think everyone assumed it would be. Now that the hardware is finally going through distribution more-or-less without help, the software polishing can get into hyperdrive! :)
-
That is old, but worrying news. That the company is still in business indicates that the implications may have been overblown, or the issue quickly remedied. Huawei and ZTE were partner names I recognized. It looks like most of their partners are Chinese.
-
I'd be interested to know which other OEMs have used it. Naming names might lend credibility by association. Certainly some people are very quick to cry wolf, and raise the ire of the villagers, without good reason. After the CarrierIQ debacle, I can understand why people could be a little nervous, but to imply the accusation that THE SINGLE MOST OPEN PHONE COMPANY EVER is putting spyware on their devices is certainly unhelpful.
