  1. Fact is, no-one can guarantee you anything, and your observation regarding their not meeting their own deadlines is correct, too. Still that doesn't mean they're crooks, it just means they can't do as good as we'd all wish and they themselves very probably too, while there's reason to believe that very much of it is in the hands of their suppliers. Except their over-optimistic promises. But whatever it is, in the end you need to accept reality – in which you can either wait for another undefined period of time (while much is hinting at a strong possibility that in March many customer

  2. Indeed, all your data is still present. Do not believe any messages that tell you otherwise. The Pro1 is an A/B device. If an update fails, you should be able to go back to the other slot using fastboot. There are myriad pages on the internet about where to find the fastboot binary for your PC and how to enter fastboot on your phone. Once you are ready, simply run "fastboot --set-active=a" and reboot. If that does not work, try "fastboot --set-active=b" and reboot. Alternatively, @claude0001 is correct. You should be able to manually install the latest nightly. I

  3. It's for a reason that I said "over-optimistic", not just "optimistic". And in an earlier post I also said, yes, over the 1½ years I've been following this forum, there's no denying that there seems to be a pattern. Yes – still neither you nor I have proof that it wasn't the factory where that promise originated in the first place, with Fxtec just repeating it publicly, and then something didn't work out in the factory, with one of the suppliers, whatever. Without real proof, Fxtec still should have the benefit of doubt, as every accused should 😉

  4. Not according to the review paper I have linked above. Charging of cold batteries seems to be especially problematic. E.g., as charging heats the battery from within, aggressive cooling from outside leads to thermal gradients that seem to cause their own problems. For these reasons, batteries of electric cars are actually warmed up using dedicated heating systems during (and prior to) charging in winter ...

  5. Just for clarity, instead of refund, another option was to get some discount later on a phone they just started to develop. Initially, they have called it Q-Device (which name was subject to change later) and they have received a lot of critics on Keyboard Mod Indiegogo site and also at maemo forum. A lot of users were in doubt they will ever able release a phone. So a lot of users went for a refund instead, which they have received. As of others, they were waiting for Q-Device which became F(x)tec Pro1. So that is the connection with Pro1 here. 🙂 As of Moto Z, that was an i

  6. Some of us here came to Fxtec after having shown an interest earlier for a product of a former venture of the Fxtec entrepreneurs – the "Livermorium Keyboard Mod" that was supposed to come out for Lenovo/Motorola's Moto Z series of smartphones, an attachable slider keyboard specifically designed for those phones. (Due to several problems some of which were caused by Motorola themselves – it was exactly during that time when Lenovo had decided to shrink Motorola, laying off many employees and causing quite some friction specifically in the Moto Mods area – the release was stopped just before ma

  7. Indeed, just reflash via sideload and update gapps, if you use them. Just to make sure, flash both slots, so four boots in total. That's what I do when I get stuck in bootloop.

  8. Did you try to simply re-flash the same nightly via sideload? That preserves userdata, right? So it should not destroy anything that isn't broken already ...

  9. Just to clarify further. We could all choose to either get a full refund, or a voucher for a $100 discount on the upcoming phone. The second option was thus especially interesting for those of us that supported the Mod early on. If I remember right we paid about $60, so a rather good deal, even if it took quite a while before we got our devices.

  10. (lineage-17.1-20210208-nightly-pro1-signed.zip on February 5 security patch installed smoothly using adb sideload) As things upgrade smoothly constantly, I will stop posting this, unless others experience issues.

  11. I had jumped on the Moto Z too early – just when availablity of the Keyboard Mod seemed to come around the corner, because my BlackBerry PRIV had just officially stopped getting security updates after only a few months of usage (and, as the most secure Android device ever invented, couldn't get a newer, up-to-date free ROM). So I stayed with the Motorola, hoping that the Q-Device would materialise one day...

  12. It's not just "optimistic" deadlines. Do you remember when they were saying they had a batch that would fulfill ALL pre-orders? Seems like some black hole swallowed the devices 🙄. The phone exists and is great, but this kind of communication / silence is not some kind of optimism. It seems really hard to rule out malicious intent when you look through the old announcements. They must have known it was not going to work out, and they still published the lie. Nothing about being crooks (I have yet to hear about someone who doesn't get his/her phone or refund) but calling what they're doing

  13. I looked at this device as well but decided to go with the pro1 x for the following reasons: - size: the communicator and astroglide look more like a netbook than a phone - cpu: media tek cpu reviews don't sound as good as qualcomm - linux: with the new cpu and the new 5g capability, it makes me wonder about linux driver support - schedule: they're planning on shipping in june or something which makes me suspect it might be more like 2022

  14. I have a fairly recent (2-3 year old) Thinkpad T570. The keyboard is splendid despite having a more chicklet appearance. They have a very nice, subtly scooped surface and a good amount of key travel (one review said it was 2.41 mm) with a soft click and good feedback. I've used Thinkpads for 25 years and the T570 seems pretty good to me. I can't find anything that confirms it is rubber dome, but I suspect it is.

  15. It has been reported that at low light the image has a green tint. But if video only it sounds like a different issue. Have you tried transferring the video to a PC?

  16. While I am no expert in Li-ion batteries, restricting the discussion to the question what is the maximum "healthy" charge of the battery seems like over-simplifying the problem to me. Indeed, it seems evident that consistently keeping the charge of a battery close to some intermediate fraction (around 50%) of its nominal capacity does slow down degradation of that nominal capacity. See e.g. Grolleau et al. (2013) [doi: 10.3390/wevj6030549]. However, the downside of that strategy is just as obvious: this way, you will never take advantage of the full capacity in the first place! 17. 😁 From their measurements, it seems that simply charging up to 80% instead of 100% would prolong the usable battery life by more than 50%. Like 3 years instead of 2. That's already quite nice...

  18. According to the Battery University, keeping Lithium battery fully charged at 25C one year degrades it 20%. Limiting temperature and max charge slows the decay an gives more charge cycles. I think it would be best to keep the battery at 40% charge and keep the phone in the fridge in an airtight bag with activated silica gel packs and only keep and use the phone in fridge like temperatures. Touching the phone with fingers or cheek, no-no-no.

  19. Just got an email from FxTec that my Pro1 was repaired by replacing the display and is on it's way back to me. So, one month. Pretty good, especially given lockdown. Thank you, FxTec!

  20. Just to tie my story up, just got an email from FX that they have replaced my display and are shipping it back to me (FedEx to US). Only a month, I'm very happy! 😄 I was worried with lockdown it would take longer. Thank you, FxTec.
