So I ended up building my own phone. Backstory: A few of you know me for my hardware modding adventures. I've replaced the broken USB port with a new port. I've then removed the fingerprint sensor to replace it with a secondary USB port for a more comfortable landscape mode. I filed away some parts of the display mount to make it more durable and I was about to replace the battery while reusing the old BMS. I did all of that to make my Pro1 work as I wouldn't want to live without a keyboard phone. Sadly, the issues didn't stop. The camera quality is bad, it's horr13 points

Soo yesterday i have madded my battery refurbishment . It was simple process - remove kapton tape, cut old battery cell contacts from pcb, littlebit shorten contacts on new cell, solder new cell to pcb with spot welder, isolate, bend pcb to correct place and then new kapton tape. It looks like original and whole process was for 5 mins ๐ I am now inside testing - charged to full - lineage batt info shows approx 2900mA after full charge. Today a Pro1-X arrived at my place. IGG-Contribution around #4000, July 2022. (Enthusiast Pro1-X bundle) Pro1-X 8GB + 256G, Keyboard Layout: QWERTZ , Pre-Installed OS: LineageOS. IIRC no engraving, black. A sapphire blue QWERTZ-device was shipped (the color looks great, btw). S/N < 7000. XDA-engraving on the back. Seals of the packing where already broken. The battery was approx 1/3 full at arrival. it was no problem to recharge it. The device was shipped with stock android. Screen protectors, spare batteries and screens where not included. Importtax to Germany was 28,50 EUR,8 points

For anyone in Australia using 3G and worried about the impending shutdown of Telstra's 3G network, I finally figured out how to enable VoLTE. I am with Aldi Mobile (Telstra) and have been using the "GSM/WCDMA preferred" up until today (and have needed to use dodgy hacks as mentioned in this thread of enabled/disabling speaker phone when performing a call). So I've seen many places where you put this code in the dialer: *#*#4636#*#* But its VoLTe is always greyed out no matter what. I am not sure if Telstra have some whitelisting going on or what. Anyway, what finally ended up work8 points

My Primary use of a phone is SMS, and the secondary email, and the third web-browsing. All of which benefits from a keyboard in the right direction. But I certainly agree that many many app-developers are too sloppy (or too incompetent?) to bother about landscape. And this even goes for the most basic stuff from Google like Settings or their Android Market app. But until my eyes move to be in parallel with my spine, I'll prefer landscape....8 points

Soo yess...my phone have stuck on 10% (battery saver) for more than one hour with youtube playing. Final time on battery was approx 34 hours and 6 hours on display. After second charging my phone charges up to 3138mAh but after few seconds after disconnect chager it shows again 2900mAh. It looks like i can be happy with new cell. Question is for how long. BTW cell looks exactly same as original with contacts on exactly same place.7 points

I send yesterday a request because my FXTEC 1 plus was not starting (empty battery). I received the cellphone one week ago. Today i received an email with the hint to recharge the phone with a rubber band (it worked!), and my question for the spare screen and the spare battery i ordered was also answered: After all devices are shipped. Just like a real company! Very sad the Phone is now already out of fashion. Hopefully there will be a new try to make a real state of the art slider again... call me insane, but i will order again!7 points

Ok, so, good news! After some pondering, I decided to open the thing up. It was actually not that hard to take apart, the official Fxtec instructions for disassembling Pro1/Pro1 X (https://vimeo.com/483552998) were easy to follow. Note: I did not use a prying tool, as I found it easier to do with my fingers (as the plastic frame is fitted to the metal quite snuggly, I found it hard to get a prying tool in there). And a word of caution: the black paint on the back of the display chips really easily when removing the 5 screw covers. Once I had the display frame removed and the ribbon7 points

You are lucky, mine doesn't boot, with a battery at 3,2 V, and a dumb red light who said to me : Not charging, you will have to completely dismont your brand new pro1x ...๐ Edit Ok works in LOS21 now, but what a sh... it's tricky to apply a bit more voltage directly on the battery connector, and also dismounting the whole thing.... That is a very mild wording. They got swindled. They paid and the company neither delivered the chips nor their money back. And as this was the company that had most of the blueprints of the Pro1, it meant that FxTec had to start over. They could have just folded after that, and said that our money was lost, but idealists as they are, they tried to recreate a new phone in the same form factor from the money left. Actually they deserve praise for attempting that. For the Pro1, Chen was very often in China to get things going as planned, as "remote" does not work well with China,7 points

Overall I think this is a quite good analysis. That they managed to grow the (SD835) Pro1 from the ash of the Livermorium project almost seems like a miracle from today's perspective. The original Pro1 was indeed far from perfect. It had its QA issues, and also some design flaws. But overall, as you can tell from the numbers of Pro1s vs. Pro1-Xs offered on the aftermarket, those who have one tend to cling to their Pro1 to this date. It will remain the best (last?) keyboard slider for some time to come. Despite owning also a Pro1-X (admittedly through Expansis' grey-marketing ๐ณ), I recentl7 points

My prototype is starting to look promising. Here is a video how the sliding works. I have added magnets for the closed position since filming. I like how it works now even so it not anything like Pro1. https://youtube.com/shorts/1MKx5WJQYBY?si=EVlCHOW1qPO22pJX I flipped the left side sliding mechanism so it is more durable. For the right side I had to use narrower mechanism so I could not fit circle magnets to the upper part. I used magnetic stripe/tape instead. It is not as strong but good enough. Now I am thinking if I can identify keyboard position (closed or not) with NFC. Y7 points

No, I think you got me wrong. No offence but, like many, you do not seem to understand what "Linux" really is. Do not worry, you are not alone in this. Especially people with many years of experience in running Linux on x86/64 servers or workstations often make wrong assumptions when it comes to embedded systems, like phones. Android does use a real Linux kernel, and thus is a true Linux system. You can grab its kernel source from kernel.org, configure it to you liking and create your own custom ROMs based on it. The only limitation is that you practically can only run the single major ke7 points

@MonCon, Peaseley thanks you for your well wishes. Considering all he's been through, I think he is doing quite well. Here he is post sew-up. Rii 518BT keyboard arrived to today. The quality is better than I expected. The keys do not wobble around but is quite loud when typing compared to Pro1. The feel is very "clicky". Also, the layout will take some time to get used to it. Especially the back key is on weird location. Android automatically manages Scandic layout quite well. Here is first mockup with iPhone 11 Pro case that I had in a drawer. It is too short but I am still waiting couple cases that I ordered earlier for this project. Thanks to everyone here in the forum and FxTec tech support I have finally a beautiful AND working Pro 1x back in my hands!! Rubber band worked for me! I had a power meter attached. During the process, there was a 150mA pulse approximately once every 10 seconds while the power button was depressed. After about 5 hours, the LED turned into a fast blinking red light, and charging rate increased to 500mA. When I saw this, I removed the rubber band. A short time later, the screen turned on, Android booted and charging rate went up to 2000mA.5 points

I received the USB adapter so my QWERTY phone is pretty much ready. It was quite a tight fit to add the adapter so I had to shave it little bit. You can find picture attached. Regarding software, I made an automation with MacroDroid that changes the virtual keyboard based on orientation. For landscape I am using NoKeyboard app so there is no virtual keyboard at all and Gboard for portrait. It is working very well. You just need to perform easy ADB hack to allow WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS. I ordered the Rii 518BT bluetooth keyboard (USB-C variant) and couple cases so that I can build my own slider phone. Let's see how it goes. I have Zenfone 9 which has dimension 146.5 x 68.1 x 9.1 mm so there should be enough room to built sliding mechanism when the keyboard is attached. Camera hole still needs some tinkering thought. Despite my previously announcing the opposite, I did it again. Here are updated builds of good-old LineageOS 16.0 for the SD835 Pro1 (QX1000): https://findus.zwergenschaenke.net/~puma/linux.html#lineagepro1 The ROM dated "20240327" gives you all backported ASB fixes up to March 2024.
