Don’t ifixit and jerryrigeverything just buy the hardware?
Jerryrigeverything buys his review units from retail stores. Think he has mentioned it a few times.
That would make a lot of sense! Both to not risk being blamed for being partial, and also to avoid the chance of the unit being tested being one that had gone through an extra careful quality control. This could be important for devices with poor quality control.

AFAIK, this is not part of standard Pie. I haven't heard anything on F(x)tec adding it.
Pie do as default encrypt all data on your phone. (see Security & Location, Advanced, Encryption)
(Pie do also offer the Lockdown mode, that might help somewhat if you make it a habit using it)
And you should be able to remote wipe the device too, see e.g. https://www.androidcentral.com/how-set-android-device-manager-lock-and-wipe-your-phone

Guess we’ll have to wait for iFixit and JerryRigEverything :)
Yeah, can't wait to see the results. :)

As per the following website Hub+ suite does not seem to include “Locker”. It may only include Password Keeper, Hub, Calendar, Launcher, Device Search, Tasks and Contacts. Will see how it goes.
Ah sorry, I thought "Locker" was the password app. Must admit I never used any of their HUB stuff. (The only BB stuff I used was their nice keyboard software and DTEK)

Do not forget the logistic costs. Sure the hardware itself has the same price no matter what price. But everything else can be expensive. You must organise different stickers, different boxes you must store this things somewhere and have controlls to ensure the right box is used for the right keyboard. The right box has to be delivered to the right place and so on… Sure this is nothing special and not that hard. It is also not that expensive if you have a high count of these numbers. BUt on low production numbers these things can cost a lot of money and time.
On top of that, they most likely need different test-sets for the keyboards.
Yes, it will certainly be simpler for them if this is just an accessory we as users can buy, and swap ourselves. But we are yet to here anything on how easy or difficult it is to change the keyboard. I fear that it might require heating up some glue, or something similar, as they changed the keyboard to get easier access to the battery, that could mean that the keyboard is not super easy to remove. But I might have misunderstood something.

From Play Store:“If you don’t have a BlackBerry device:You can use this app on your Android device absolutely free for 30 days. After that, you can continue using the app for free, with some ads. To remove ads and unlock access to more apps, subscribe to BlackBerry Hub+ from the app.”Any suggestions for a good “Locker” app”?If you like an trust the BB app, why not just pay?
Yes, I can subscribe/ pay for the Blackberry Hub+, but I don’t think it includes the “Locker”
But is that not what it says in the quote? 30 days free, and then you have to buy the (larger) Hub+ package to continue using it without ads.

So it all boils down to why they didn’t provided a Scandinavian qwerty. If it was the cost it hard to argue. If they didn’t provided due to low demand I think they misread the situation.
it is really hard for us to evaluate, when we do not know the cost in making an alternative layout. Sure number 2 is just as cheap as any layout, but what is the price of number 1? That cost has to be covered by additional sales of either devices or extra keyboards the users changes...

Well I see it from another angle: The more we can get to buy a Pro1, the higher the chance there will be a Pro2, Pro3,…. when we want to upgrade…
Also, it would be nice to get a discount if we buy a second Pro1 ;)
I bet they do combined shipping... ;-p
How many I will buy depends on the future of the whole project. If it is the end of the line for qwerty sliders I expect to buy more than if there is a good chance for a pro2, pro3, ... I think I will start with just two....

I would keep first party software at bare minimum (i.e. non-existent) and focus on improving the landscape experience of Pro1 and platform support. It’s just not a wise idea.
That seem to be the philosophy of Fxtec.
Do the needed drivers, and add only device related stuff (like controlling the keyboard backlight, slider action and keyboard layout), that are not generically included in Android.
Personally I think they should not even have made special apps for the Logo-key. Though the default apps like gmail is clearly not optimized for landscape well, there ARE third party apps that does work well in landscape and with keyboard. So why try to re-invent he wheel? IMHO a waste of their development money... The chance of it being better than say K9 I see as minimal - but of course they might prove me wrong. And sure just about ANYTHING will be better than Google's calendar, that is a disgrace, only offering day-overview in landscape?!?!?
ADD: I would say they should rather just have an official list of apps they can recommend as tested to work well in landscape and with keyboard. Sort of what I have tried to start user-based here

Added recommendation of Termux, based on this thread.

While I understand the doubt in commercial product most of them have a great track record. And they would instantly be dead if they fuck up, because it is there core business (that is the difference to other companies).
.
.
The biggest problem could be that angry orange man demanding access to all encrypted things on the internet. I have no information if these services are forced to add backdoors.
Yup, the risk of them having holes are less than any home brew you, I or Fxtec might cook up. And if they were deliberately stealing they would only need to be caught doing so once to be dead...
But SURE the NSA and similar in other countries have access to everything on our devices (if not they would be incompetent). It is bad, but we just have to accept it or stay off line.
I have no illusions of real security. Big brother IS watching you.

The https://www.fxtec.com/contact/ form is only an mailto: link so it just bounces as undeliverable after 5 days.
It sounds to me like you might be sending from a mail-server that does not present itself in a proper way to the receiving server. A guess could be "Helo Reject"
Personally I have had issues like that where benign incoming mails where rejected by my hosting provider's spam server.
If might be that the fxtec mail-server got a strict setup too.
Try to send from a different mail-server, e.g. a gmail account, to check that it goes through.

I do get your concern, but as I too is slightly paranoid, I do not see why we would trust build in software on a TCL device more than a third party app? Remember that BB as a brand is now just licensed to be used by Chinese TCL. I trusted the BB brand more while they were delivered by a Canadian company, as I trust the political environment they are operating in more in Canada.
I like to believe that my BB Priv was (well: is) slightly more secure than the pure Android, And definitely more secure than my Samsung S8- that comes with a truck-load of bloat that is marked as system, and requires ADB disable, or rooting to get rid off...
Would I 'trust' an added home-build Password-keeper on the Pro1, if they made one? Well I would see it this way: Though I trust the guys at F(x)tec, I think that the risk of such a small start-up company to accidentally have a security hole in such software would be substantial. So I would suggest to go for some open source software with a high number of users instead.
Personally I'm very glad that they do NOT try to add a lot of software to the native Android.

I am confused about shipping. Is that quoted ~10 USD charged for international shipping to me, or domestic shipping from a US-based fulfillment center? The email I received makes it sound like $706.78 is my final cost?? I am in California.
$10 in shipping... Lucky you, I was charged €24 (~$27) to Denmark.... :-o
See Erik's post earlier, they send to US-customers from a "Fulfilment centre" in the US.

It is a new odd bug, that is related to the approval system.
IF a keymaster approves a post, but do NOT make a comment/reply in the thread, the approved comments are in an odd stealth state, until a keymaster make a comment (Yes, seriously!!)
(That is why some might have seen some odd short XXXX-like comments from me, as I try to remember to make a dummy comment after approve, and then quickly Delete it, as this miraculously cleans up the mess....)
...I certainly(!) hope that this will be fixed with the new forum software

good news, thank you, EskeRahn. in this case it seems that horizontal use of the Pro-1 works with Termux ?
is the Esc-key jump perhaps related to Termux, rather than to Android ? the Esc-key is pretty essential for UNIX stuff.
i am especially curious in trying to use the Right-Alt key separately in a dedicated mode with other keys together as that would help me in bash with my language escapades. although, as netman stated, it remains to be seen if my setup only works with xterm or can be applied to other terminal emulators…
Termux works in Landscape aka Horizontal on a Pro1, yes.
The other questions I can not answer, sorry.

They should give us early adopters some type of referral bonus, i.e. get 100 people to buy pro1 and you get a free pro2!
Well I see it from another angle: The more we can get to buy a Pro1, the higher the chance there will be a Pro2, Pro3,.... when we want to upgrade...

moreover, regarding the Pro-1, i am wondering if Termux or JuiceSSH will flawlessly work also in horizontal mode with the physical keyboard ?does anybody here have already experience with the Pro-1 ?
With the Pro1 yes (preproduction unit) but not with SSH. Just opened Termux in the Android Market, and some of the screenshot provided are in landscape… I will try to install
Tried to install, and can see that say Ctrl+A or Alt+1 acts the same way as softkey followed by physical key, so Ctrl and Alt are supported. Though physical "Esc" jumps to the homescreen (where e.g. softkey Esc, just above the physical, followed by D clears to EOL)
ADD: I have suggested fxtec to make a user-setting requiring a long press of Esc to jump to the homescreen.

Android already supports these things for BlueTooth and USB-OTG keyboards, so it should work without problems :).
Well sure, but the program would still need to know that say "Ctrl" exists to have prepared some sensible specialised action. I mean beyond the general stuff like control navigation, marking and cut&paste within a textbox provided by the Android OS.

I repeat my old post here.My country have some customs limits. So may price in customs declaration change to suit this limits? I mean 649$->549$ e.g.?
Of course i mean to reduce price only in declaration. It looks like a phone with discount. Is it possible?
What you are requesting is basically customs fraud. So even if they were willing to do so, I highly doubt that they would write it out in public.

Still, I wonder what will be the future of Fxtec after Pro1 gets fully released. There are >24k preorders but I wonder how many of them will pay. Also, I wonder how many people would like to get a landscape keyboard phone but just didn’t hear about Pro1 yet. Finally, I wonder how many people are there who are waiting for a phone to release and then decide to buy it or not after read reviews of people who preordered it.
Yes only time will tell, but I'm sure that it is only us as the most eager ones that have bought it from pre-orders. I'm sure there is a large group that will wait for the reception of it, and most likely a much larger group that never heard of the Pro1 but could be interested once they learn of the existence (so help spread the message...).
From an egoistic perspecitve: The higher sales the Pro1 gets, the higher profit FxTec will make, and thus the higher chance of them producing a Pro2, Pro3,..... thus providing us with devices I can upgrade to later on...

I would have bought the Photon Q if the specs weren’t bottom tier for that time. That was part of what killed physical sliders…in the end, they wouldn’t put them out with high end specs so if you wanted flagship specs/quality, there were slabs and that’s it.
Yup. It is the same story with phone sized devices.
You basically can not buy a phone with flagship specs anymore, only phablets!
And there have been no QWERTY-slider with anything close to flagship spec since the SonyEricsson Pro. in 2011.
Thus the request for a flagship speced PHONE with a slider keyboard (that I would prefer) is further away from reality.
BUT if the Pro1 get a smashing success, we just MIGHT get successors, and hopefully one of them would be shrunken to 5¼" display, and thus to phone size - and still have good specs!.
Personally I do not get why manufacturers think that if you want anything but an oversized phablet, you most likely also want it to be a mediocre device...
For the Pro1 I DO understand, that they want to 'test the waters' first to see if QWERTY interest can be woken again, as currently the risk of a fully flagship speced variant of the Pro1 would be very expensive (few buyers means fewer to share the development cost, thus rising the price further).
