I agree that sticky modifiers could be a nice OPTION. BUT remember that with Shift, Ctrl and YellowArrow on BOTH sides, we actually got easy access to FIVE layouts with a single thumb from either side: * (None), * Shift, * Ctrl, * YellowArrow * Ctrl+YellowArrow And I suggest to handle the last one as you would an AltGr in the mapping. I'm not saying that we should not have sticky keys, merely that we might not need them as bad as we thought. It is unclear if Sym is supposed to be used as yet another modifier key, or to launch some symbol library, or something else.... So maybe the 'stickyness' could be offered in three flavours None Alt (And Sym) only All modifiers And hopefully with some hotkey to turn it on off, as it might be annoying used on a desk.

Hi, author of the FinQwerty app here.Adding support for Pro1 is indeed the plan, and we checked with Eske that remapping works on the current firmware version. Here is a page with the current drafts for Scandinavian remaps for the stock US QWERTY and DE QWERTZ layouts: https://android.onse.fi/finqwerty/pro1.html Feel free to comment :) At this point I’m most interested on opinions on the “major” remappings, i.e. where to put åäöæø and where to move the characters they replace. Currently they layouts are made so the two letters immediate to the right of P and L are correct. But the letter two positions right of L (that is Ä in Swedish) is the problem, as this position physically is Enter on the shifted qwerty. So the two most oblivious possibilities are to re-purpose the physical Del key of full height, and move the Del function to the "=" left of Backspace OR to move the Ä to the reduced height "=" even further from it's standard position. We have also been experimenting with a non-shifted US QWERTY layout for the DE QWERTZ physical layout. I would not be surprised to see that as a popular option...

Is this “split screen” meant to be just two separate windows/tabs or can you configure them to follow each other. Meaning, that if you scroll on one side the other one is the continuation, and follows the other. This would be awesome and weighs up for shortage of screen space when scrolling/viewing for instance “news” in landscape.AFAIK they are independent.

ive bought mine,, and am planning to buy another… even though it is clear that they will offer spare parts, which kinda tells you there is no p2 coming anytime soon. if, at all.Hmm, why would one exclude the other? It is not aPple, but seems like decent people, so they might well expect some of the users to keep the device for many years, even if one or more new models are offered.

who still uses gmail?wtf,,, hop on protonmailIt is not the right forum (nor thread) for discussing that. There is another thread on what apps that benefits from the landscape and keyboard Pro1 here.

Yes I have suggested that too, and suggested that they also offered an option of having two crop masks to the same image [attachment file=34301]

I’ve used key remapping on both Samsung Galaxy Relay 4G and BlackBerry priv before, and that works pretty well as long as the key labels are fairly similar on average. I have a hunch that FinQwerty will be available for this phone as well (but yes, it’s just my speculation).I can say that it is beyond speculation :-D I'm currently in dialogue with Anssi Hannula (The brain behind FinQWERTY), and has already had an early version that make Danish on the shifted US QWERTY much better than the android default available as stock. 8-) He is even preparing the needed adjustments to use it based on the unshifted QWERTZ as well.

Its only one week left before the mid of September. Is it still on tracked to be shipped in mid September? There are no final words on the exact shipping data and it still refers to future date or estimated to be. EskeRahn you the the super boy here, do you know if its still going to be shipped in two weeks? Sorry guys i have pre ordered it in early march and been waiting since then, its been a long wait. I have no inside knowledge on the shipping - And even if I had, I would not be allowed to share it.

Thanks, a few comments: * on keyboards LEDs see this tweet a number of LEDs can be seen, but it is not as extreme as one per, key, so even f they are controlled individually (and I doubt that) you would not be able to light individual keys. * the touch at the edges is deliberately ignored, as the earlier firmware often gave unwanted screen interactions opening and closing the screen.

Don’t screen protectors usually have cutouts where the sensors/front camera are on a phone? Are people in this thread assuming sensors will be in the same spot as the other phone with the same screen they are ordering protectors for or just don’t care about that minor detail? It is not just the display foil that is identical, it is the whole display assembly with digitizer, glass surface (and holes). BF060Y8M-AJ0-7702 You can see the fit in the link to another thread a few comments above https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/bundled-screen-protector/page/2/#post-33213 Here a link to one of the places you can get the BF060Y8M-AJ0-7702

Hi all,Now, this is just a feature I’ve been pushing internally – it’s likely coming but it’s not confirmed yet. When you hold a key like O (and many others), a slim horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen (on the screen edge and right on top of the physical keys) will popup showing the accent characters corresponding to the letter in question. With this implementation, users will be able to type in most European / Scandinavian languages with only one physical layout – standard QWERTY. To my knowledge, this exists within the Android firmware by default, so we just need to configure and adapt it for use on the Pro1. We’d likely stay away from the Ctrl, Alt and Sym combinations for accent characters, as that can be uncomfortable when the device is in your hands and not on a flat surface. Erik I'm quite surprised (bordering on shocked) to read this. As the keyboard is THE main thing on this device I am(/was?) expecting some super perfected software for this specific hardware keyboard, and not something just adjusting whatever Android happens to have build in. I REALLY hope to get a MUCH MUCH better keyboard experience than what a random BT keyboard can offer on any device. Sure the sliding mechanism in it self is a plus, but PLEASE let us benefit from the great keyboard. Let us remap things freely for any language or special usage, including all sort of combined modifier keys. And let us nerds build the layouts and share them to who ever might want to use them.

Erik-FX wrote:We’d likely stay away from the Ctrl, Alt and Sym combinations for accent characters, as that can be uncomfortable when the device is in your hands and not on a flat surfaceThis is only true if the key is not sticky. The N900 had accents behind a sticky key and it was working fantastic. Sticky modifiers are a must on a hwkb-phone for me! Exactly. and I would suggest to let the user select these sticky or not. Perhaps with some easy swap between the two states. Or even an automode, that detect if it is still and horizontal. If so it is likely to be on a table, and thus sticky is not needed... But I would happily settle with some plain key-combo to switch sticky/non-sticky.

Just saw that now even aPple let people repair their devices at partly independent repair shops https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_will_finally_let_you_repair_your_outofwarranty_iphone_at_independent_shops-news-38936.php Though they still need to be 'approved' by aPple... so the independence should be taken with a truck load of salt.

I'm also eagerly awaiting to see how some more finished keyboard software will be. I have only tried the pre-production thing, it is really limited in accessing anything interesting outside the most basic letters and a few symbols. But they must have put the Alt, Ctrl, Sym keys there for a reason, so I guess we just have to wait and see.... I hope we can soon have some information on the files controlling stuff, so we can make it fully customizable, And hopefully it can be altered without rooting, I have tried to ask for info on that since spring, and has optimistically started a minor program for customizing stuff. But am stuck until I get info on what files controls it and info on the format of these.

It is inaccurately just called microSD, see e.g. this for details. But I guess that if you insert an old microSD-card it will work too.

At 60 you are considered a typist, and that is awesome with a phone!https://www.livechatinc.com/typing-speed-test/ The average person types between 38 and 40 words per minute (WPM), what translates into between 190 and 200 characters per minute (CPM). However, professional typists type a lot faster — on average between 65 and 75 WPM.NOTE that this is language dependent, as the mean word length varies substantially between languages. see e.g. http://www.ravi.io/language-word-lengths and https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-longest-and-shortest-languages-in-terms-of-average-length-of-words

@eskerahn: What is the stuff that looks like sticky material or tape in the lower left and lower right, to the sides of the keyboard in your pictures? As I wrote earlier, adhesive remains from a (failed) experiment I did. And what is the gray oval shaped thing on the right side of the screen (bottom if you are holding it vertical)? I just noticed that for the first time. All the pictures on the f(x)tec website are fake images, but by looking at other, true photographs of the phone, I see that same oval, so it isn’t just something in the apps. I’m wonder about the screen protector covering up whatever it is.I’m also wondering about it being there when viewing pictures or watching videos. Hmm… I just looked at a video online and saw someone opening and closing the phone without the screen on and that oval isn’t there. I then got to thinking that maybe with Android Pie, that is the home screen virtual button? Is that what it is? If so, then I’m assuming a photo viewing app or video playing app can not display that? It certainly isn’t as bad as the “chin” debacle on other phones, but we also don’t need something getting in the way of our full screen viewing experience. :-)It is pure Android. Just the soft-key, so if the app used are not in full screen mode, you got one (or more) softkeys in the bar

If you order from aliexpress today, you can consider it a race between the protector and phone to see which gets to you first!I just received mine, estimated 30 days when I ordered, took 3 weeks (to California). The race is on! I just ordered 5 of them like @eskerahn. It said there are 2 per pack, but I don’t know if that is a front one and one for the back of the phone, or 2 screen side protectors. Since it was cheap, I still ordered 5 and that might be 10. $12.36 total. Now to get serious about a belt holster pouch. I guess I’ll create a topic just for that. I got 5x2 :)

I forgot to post an image of the elastic one mounted, but can be found in this thread (not on final unit though)

I see those screen protectors fit nicely :).Yes, And could have been better if I had applied with more care, as you can see with the speaker and camera holes. For other readers: Some cheap elastic ones from aliexpress discussed over here,

Sticky modifiers
in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Posted
Well even two handed it is a matter of the grip. The intuitive good grip operation is to hold in in both hands and type with the thumbs.
And here it could be awkward to press say Alt+1.
At the least it would require to let go the grip of the right hand.
But one could even hold it with one hand completely passive and operate it completely by four or five fingers on the free hand - and if so sticky would not be needed, (except for some extreme combos like Shift+Alt+YellowArrow+P
So much a matter of how you hold it if it is needed, I prefer the simple two thumb operation, but might change to using several fingers on the right hand instead,
I have even experimented with various odd hybrids of holding in left hand and using left thumb, but only support the right side with one or two fingers, and operate with two-three right hand fingers. as pressing say BackSpace when supported relaxed in left hand only feels slightly wobbly.
But with alternative holding unwanted screen interaction is more likely, Time will tell what I will find most productive...
