I can't wait either :) On the Priv, it is important to keep it lean to perform well. I have written quite a bit on it. You can start here

Keyboard print layouts and functionality

You can select to use one of the shift keys for Ctrl. I can not remember the exact place. Have to dig it up :) Settings, Language&Input, Blackberry Keyboard Settings, Advanced, Physical Keyboard Ctrl key -
People really should try ADB, we can disable (almost) anything without the need for neither root nor flash, just a pc and a usb-cable... See https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/root-related-questions-split-from-support-time-thread/page/1/#post-16686 with link

Estimated software and hardware support time
EskeRahn replied to ValdikSS's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Ah sorry, was a little too hasty with that split. Thanks for the heads up, fixed. -
Just a hint to those that like rooting just to kill bloat apps. Even on non-rooted devices we DO have a bigger axe to disable stuff, than apps-settings. Slightly hidden but official. By the use of USB-cable, a PC, and Google's ADB.program's commands we can disable galore (almost) anything. (Yes, including Bixby!) I wrote a lot of blah blah with examples related to a Samsung S8- here

Split all the root related posts into a new thread: -
That is odd, I see both Danish and English reviews. (The names indicating it hardly being Danes writing in English) BUT it could be because I always set my devices to real English (or American), as the translations to Danish more often than not are more or less incomprehensible, so you have to try to make a reverse translation to guess what it originally was, to understand it.... You could try to (temporarily) change the phone language, and see if that gives you more reviews. (But indeed a bit odd that it is not a setting like: "I prefer these languages, in prioritised order")

The one I found here is a fairly mediocre fit, to put it mildly. I have not (yet) found tempered glass protectors with fitting curvature, just flat ones (and this even got a common cut out in the top for camera etc). There are various plastic ones with curvature, I have not tried these, as I wanted nothing less than tempered glass on this this hard to get specimen. Once it goes into real production, I might settle for less, and just buy a spare screen , for the bad chance of a plastic protector not doing the trick. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Gorilla glass. It is a GREAT compromise if

If I have my way, there will be no practical limits to what chars will be supported (well unicode accepted by Android). And my plan is that they can be assigned to any key or key-combination within some reasonable limits. (Zero or more modifier-keys plus some normal keys) So any language using letters with individual unicode chars should be easy to map as wished. To the extent Android supports it, it could even be taken a step further and supporting partial 'glyphs' or diacritics that can be used to combine chars from multi strokes. Either diacritics/modifiers pressed before or after, depe -
And please add over here, if there is a specific version that works well with Keyboards/Landscape - and how to get to it. https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/apps-that-works-great-with-a-real-keyboard-and-in-landscape/ It is an annoying 'feature' in the Android Market, that once something have been messed up with an 'update', we not only can not downgrade, we even can't uninstall and install the working older version. We have to either hope the developer fixes what they messed up or find and side-load it, thus messing with the whole idea of (at the least somewhat) secured apps.

I think that is a fair estimate of the worst-case scenario. We will have to wait and see on the repairability. At the least I see some screws, in both halves, so might not be as bad after all :) -
Thanks for testing. I had (optimistically) hoped that it was just the menu item that under some unknown circumstances were missing, but must be worse than that then. Hmm, :-/ Maybe different 'create-paths' of the user create the profile with different rights to their own profile?? Let us hope some more knowledgeable person knows what is going on and can fix it..

The link "Edit Profile" on mine is pointing to, looks like this (almost) https://www.fxtec.com/user/?profiletab=main&um_action=edit If I execute that link I get the edit. Could one of you with the issue, please try? ADD: This reduced version seem to also work (for me) https://www.fxtec.com/user/?um_action=edit

Alternative OS availability, common entry

It depends a bit on what you mean by "google apps", as all the Android system apps in principle are Google apps. But I assume you mean stuff like their maps, mails, drive, photos, youtube, chrome and many others, and YES you can disable these (even without the need to use ADB from a PC - that is a big axe for non rooted devices) And remember that if not enough, they also promised that it is rootable, so that allows you to do practically anything. :) PS Also remember that due to a really odd Android thing, you have to explicitly stop a running app you have disabled, otherwise it will c -
Various questions to the PRO1 not yet answered
EskeRahn replied to zernag's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
There has been a discussion on the size much earlier in the thread, so moved your comment here. I too hope for a Pro2 of lesser size. If the Pro1 gets a big (excuse the pun) success, we will have a higher chance of later variants also. I'm quite sure they thought long on what size that would would suit the most users, and that is where they have chosen to start. -
I built my own keyboard phone. Here's what I learned.

Just tried to pair the Pro1 with an old Iphone BT keyboard I dug up, and look and behold it worked!! (Not that it makes much sense though) So why it did NOT work with the Android phones I tried earlier I do not know.... ADD The same old thing also worked on my Samsung S8- , so all points to the problems I have seen no longer exists?? -
One very very crucial detail is missing in this spec-compare: The keyboard.... And not just a fixed keyboard but a sliding landscape one!!! One thing is the price of the keyboard and the development of it alone, like say a BB Key½, but we should also remember that logically 'splitting' a standard phone in halves, keeping it well balanced is not an easy thing! This is not just a keyboard 'drawer' tugged underneath a phone, it is more like a screen and some other components cut out of the unit and moved to the second half. And this has to be done with a strategically placed cable that is placed

I can see it was resent. :) BUT If you still do not get it, you might want to check if you are using an email provider that has a filter where it can get caught, before your local email program ever have a chance of seeing it as real/spam. My email-provider uses a system called "SpamTitan", and ocasionally I experience that the filter have been overzealous and caught real emails in it's quarantine.

Agree. Just like the BB Priv that was also 'overpriced for the rest of the specs', I still bought it. The Moto Z series similarly, if you just look at specs, severely overpriced. But had the Keyboard Mod been realised I planned to buy a Z-series device for it, despite the overprice. (And yes, that way around, a device for the keyboard, not a keyboard for the device!) (And before the Priv, I bought some different Keyboards for Iphones, and then an Iphone for them - but HATED Ios)

First of it is 650 and not 700, but that is almost splitting sticks. But seen from my perspective this IS a niche product, and will never be a 'mass product' selling millions (I would love to be proven wrong though...) In my view it simply is a limited segment that type that much that they can see the benefits of a real keyboard over the software substitutes. AND even if they do see it, there is a trade of in size and weight that have to be considered. So for those that type sms, email, browses etc with a mean of say 100-200 strokes a day, and use their device primarily for calling and e

The problem with sarcasm in a forum like this is that it is often taken for face value. Humour is very much cultural dependent.
