  1. There is a conflict between that email and what @Erik-FX is stating. Leaving the factory in 1-2 weeks, on the way to the fulfillment centers, is not necessarily the same as being ready to ship to customers in 1-2 weeks. The gap here is how long it takes to get from the factory to the fulfillment centers (both in transit time and customs hold time). If, for instance, it takes the slow boat from China to the USA, then that could be the middle of November before it hits the USA. If customs holds it for a few days and the fulfillment center takes a few days to package it for delivery, then it
  2. @EskeRahn: I saw your personal page where you explained what those non-smooth areas are in the lower corners of the keyboard (https://eskerahn.dk/?p=3556). If those are stickers covering screws to disassemble the phone, how would one replace them after taking the phone apart? Are they hard plastic with some sort of sticky material on the back that could be re-applied, or is the whole thing a soft material sticker?
  3. That thread was more about cases. I created a separate thread for holster pouches: https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/belt-holster-pouch/ I did post a link to one holster that has a velcro flap. I have a velcro flap on my current holster (for my Samsung Galaxy Relay 4G), but after a while those stop holding anyway, so a magnet might provide you with more security if the holster falls. However, I'm not sure how the holster would fall that easily when it is attached to a belt. If @Swond is talking about a non-holster pouch, that's a different animal, of course.
  4. I received my screen protectors on September 24th. I ordered on August 28th. :-) I received my holster the same day, and it was ordered 4 days prior, US to US. Now I just need a phone. :-/
  5. I am guessing the chances of us getting a proper belt holster and case combo for this phone are very low. I did create a separate thread belt holster options though. https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/belt-holster-pouch/
  6. Do we know that the drop testing was done with the phone on and the screen on? I would hope they were able to do robot testing of pressing the hardware and virtual buttons on the phone, with the screen on, in order to test durability of those sub-components. Good point about the Elephone's lack of screen issues. Although, one does wonder, why were the users replacing their screens? Did they break them, or did the screens get lines or go black? Let's assume they were simply broken by dropping them. Then we are back to square one, which is, where else can we get replacement screens, ot
  7. One very bad thought did cross my mind. If the screens are all the same no matter where they are coming from and f(x)tec is getting them from the same sources, then I sure hope they have done thorough screen-on testing with enough of them do have uncovered any of these types of problems. It would not be good if mass production ended with 20% of the phones having this issue, for obvious reasons. It is also possible that there is some interaction between the phone and the screen that is causing the issue, hence something unique to the Elephone that isn't a problem with the Pro1. My guess
  8. It could be a problem with how they were installed and it could be a problem that happens to some percentage of screens regardless of how they are installed. I saw enough people report the issue that it makes me think there could be a real issue with sourcing the screen from these suppliers. I'd like to find another source as a result. If anyone finds other sources, please post links to them.
  9. I looked at a handful of these on AliExpress today. Every one of them had comments from users stating that lines started appearing on the screens after using for a period of time (1-3 months). [attachment file=36743] Do we have a source for this screen that might be more OEM in quality?
  10. I ordered a belt holster. As a reminder, from my first post, I was leaning towards the one that had these stats: 6.00 x 3.25 x 0.62 inches. The phone is: 6 1/16 x 2.898 x 0.55 inches. The pouch is nylon, with a magnetic flap and a metal, swivel clip. The concern was whether the flap would close well with it being made for a phone that is 1/16 of an inch shorter than the Pro1. I thought I'd look on Amazon to see if there was a difference in price and shipping, vs the company's website. That's when I happened upon other models that they make for specific phone and case combos. Here ar
  11. Yeah, I'm thinking that one should work too. My main concern is whether it will fit if a case or other options are added to the phone. We don't yet know about any 3rd party cases that will protect the screen. I may experiment with putting some Sugru on the corners. Here is an example of someone doing this on an iPhone: https://sugru.com/tech-gadget/how-to-make-protective-corners-for-your-iphone I won't have the bumpers be that big (nor in a bright color), and they can't wrap around to the keyboard part of the phone, for obvious reasons. The other option might be to use a big sheet of
  12. I almost replied back again that I didn't see any mention of it in the post and then I just happened to see that there was *something* at the very end of the post and was able to read the pale font color after I highlighted it. For anyone else, it says, "(The residues seen in the corners of the keyboard are from an experiment I did, where I forgot to clean up the adhesive, sorry)". But what was the failed experiment where you used some adhesive on the keyboard?
  13. Ooo...do you have a link to the post where you discuss the experiment? :-)
  14. Adding to the list. This one is a little wider than the smaller of the first two I posted and deeper. It is 6.0 x 3.5 x 0.8 inches. It has a velcro flap and a non-swivel clip (although there is a model that has the slit type belt attachment too). I won't consider it due to the non-swivel clip, but I'm adding it for other people to consider. It also states that it works with an iPhone 6+, which is 6.22" tall. They state that the flap with the velcro still works fine with that extra length of the phone. http://www.sandman.com/pouches.html#52
  15. I'm also wondering about it being there when viewing pictures or watching videos. Hmm... I just looked at a video online and saw someone opening and closing the phone without the screen on and that oval isn't there. I then got to thinking that maybe with Android Pie, that is the home screen virtual button? Is that what it is? If so, then I'm assuming a photo viewing app or video playing app can not display that? It certainly isn't as bad as the "chin" debacle on other phones, but we also don't need something getting in the way of our full screen viewing experience. :-)
  16. And what is the gray oval shaped thing on the right side of the screen (bottom if you are holding it vertical)? I just noticed that for the first time. All the pictures on the f(x)tec website are fake images, but by looking at other, true photographs of the phone, I see that same oval, so it isn't just something in the apps. I'm wonder about the screen protector covering up whatever it is.
  17. @EskeRahn: What is the stuff that looks like sticky material or tape in the lower left and lower right, to the sides of the keyboard in your pictures?
  18. This one is the same as the previous one, but it is taller and wider. Same depth. This one is 6.75 x 3.62 x 0.62 inches. So that's almost 0.75 taller and 0.37 wider. https://www.turtlebackcase.com/vertical-universal-3xl-extended-nylon-holster-metal-belt-clip/ This phone is already so darn big to be carrying on your hip. I really don't want to have to go up to this monster sized pouch. I'll see what other people post, but my current plan is to get the first one I posted if nothing better shows up. Hopefully 1/16 of an inch won't mess up the flap closing.
  19. I'm creating this thread for those people who choose/want/need to carry their phone on their belt, in a holster style pouch (as they should be carried *grins*). Hopefully people can share information and links to products that will work for this sized phone. And to be clear, we are talking about the style that has a clip or a slit in the back for a belt to go through, not the style that you slip the phone into and carry the pouch in another container (fanny pack, purse, etc.). There is also the matter of how the flap connects: snap, velcro or magnet. My preference is magnet, but feel free
  20. The race is on! I just ordered 5 of them like @EskeRahn. It said there are 2 per pack, but I don't know if that is a front one and one for the back of the phone, or 2 screen side protectors. Since it was cheap, I still ordered 5 and that might be 10. $12.36 total. Now to get serious about a belt holster pouch. I guess I'll create a topic just for that.
  21. I haven't been able to edit my posts since the moderation was put in place.
  22. I was referring to this email exchange: https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/scandinavian-qwerty-please/page/3/#post-32480 ... The price for your already placed pre-order will not change, even if it's unpaid. This will only affect new orders placed after 1 week. You can pay your existing pre-order anytime you are able to -- there's no time limit on that." ... So how do we translate that reply? 1) Existing pre-orders will not have their price changed, even if it is unpaid. 2) The price change will only affect orders placed after 1 week from when that email was sent. 3) There is
  23. Thanks for doing that. If other repairability posts sneak into other threads, hopefully people can do what you did so that this thread will provide a single location where people can keep up-to-date on this topic. In case links break later for some reason (forum change), here is the content of that post: ... I have now been updated that spare parts will be available at a later point in time after launch. This, of course, is in addition to the default repair option which we have with our authorised service providers. Established service providers are a requirement by most carrier networ
  24. Surely there must be a mistake here. Everyone knows that touch screens are every bit as fast as physical keyboards. That's why we don't need physical keyboard phones in the marketplace. They aren't any faster and they over-complicate things and make phones too thick and ugly. Nobody wants a physical keyboard on a phone. (extreme scarcasm mode re-disabled)
  25. @EskeRahn: Can you contact them to let them know about the problem? They've told us that we can pre-order and hold that pre-order open, at the pre-order price, without placing a full order. I'm only buying QWERTY phones, but I would like to place a pre-order for a second phone at the pre-order price so that I have the option of completing the order after I've had a chance to use the first phone I ordered. It is *possible* that filling out the credit card information will still only result in a pre-order and not a full order, but I'm not going to risk it, because then I'd need to cancel t
