  1. Right, so do I – but I have no need to use R for the time being. My plan is to use LineageOS 17 with SafetyNet cared for by Magisk (if I ever find out how this is done) as long as it is supported, and after that, if we're really out of luck with regard to SafetyNet + LineageOS then, I'll have another look at the state F(x)Tec's stock Android will be in. And maybe we're lucky and it will be good! Anyway, for me, that's the point in time to start worrying, not earlier.
  2. Good point. Yes, this is crucial! 😁 Funny that some of us can't do that because the production of that device has been interrupted by the virus itself...
  3. I'm not sure, because one of the aspects (which I forgot to mention above) that make Covid-19 more dangerous than a usual strain of influenza is that people who recovered can get it again.
  4. Yes, there's the problem – everything I've read about the new coronavirus says that it can cause more severe symptoms (like pneumonia) than influenza, that it spreads faster than influenza, and that it's more lethal than influenza. And of "the same common precautions" an important one is missing, vaccination. And then there's the fact that much of the new virus isn't even known yet – like whether it mutates, how fast, and what will change in mutating. It's not the most renowned source that I managed to dig up quickly (most of what I've read so far are German-language sources, I have no E
  5. Thanks, I'm a bit relieved 😉 No, I don't think so... Yes, there are places on earth which are too crowded for people being able to live a decent life. But this planet could sustain many more people. It's just that we need to work out a way to ensure that it does...
  6. Wow, I hope I'm misunderstanding you here, because that would be several orders of magnitude more inhuman even than Silversolver's stance — with or without this continuation: Even if reducing the population would be something that should be desired, would killing human beings really be an acceptable way to do it? Why not drop some atom bombs? (Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question.) But why should we reduce the population of this planet anyway, while this planet can easily nourish a far larger population? (This was attested only a few years ago by the UN Special Representative
  7. To return the compliment, one of the reasons for that is that outside of this subject I've always perceived you as a rather likeable person here in the forum.
  8. I don't think so. In China, only a very small percentage of the population had it, and the recovery rate is already higher than what is left of the infection rate. It may well be that China will very soon see the end of the epidemic.
  9. No. You're completely misguided about what the virus is and what it isn't, why people will need to go to the hospital, which makes you a potentially lethal danger to everyone and their surroundings who might take your irresponsible half-truths as advice. It seems you're a hopeless case, and I won't discuss this further. You seem to believe you're cleverer than the whole world's best and most competent medical personnel. I repeat, you need to educate yourself by reading what those professionals have to say about it, and stop your dangerous trivialisation of a major world health crisis that only
  10. I'll tell that to the few beloved relatives I still have from my parents' generation when they die of Covid-19, without which they would have had a really good chance to live ten, maybe twenty more years of a happy life. Thank you very much.
  11. And that not only means that many people being sick with Covid-19 can't be treated anymore, it means that anyone getting sick won't get treatment anymore. It means that people will die a miserable death by appendicitis again. No matter how well they're insured.
  12. Bummer. Does "in the near future" mean, though, that it still might with LineageOS 16 and 17?
  13. Thanks, that clears it up! So what we'd now need would be someone who can say more on the subject 🙂 – anyone? I'd really like to use LineageOS when I get my phone, but unfortunately SafetyNet is a must, as I rely on at least two apps which need it – one is a health related app, the other is my bank's app without which I cannot even log in to their banking website on my PC anymore. (Yes, and this is not even one of the flashy new Fintech startups, it's a bank with some history...)
  14. The good news is that, while under conducive conditions the virus is said to be able to sustain six days on smooth material, no infection from shipped goods has been observed until now, and it is thought to be extremely improbable (source: RKI, Germany)...
  15. Indeed; I've been following everything here for some time but this specific aspect is still unclear for me, too. Until some point my interpretation of what I read was that we'd get SafetyNet approved as soon as our LineageOS would become an official build, but now I'm not too sure, since somewhere else I read something that would require Magisk to enable it (while I would have thought Magisk would only be needed for root). Consider me confused as well 😉
  16. Sorry for having to be this explicit, but everyone who complains about and rejects measures being taken against the free spreading of SARS-CoV-2 assenting accepts the sure death of millions of old and weak human beings on this planet, for whom there is neither vaccination nor cure as soon as they catch the virus. This is a danger and a lethality several magnitudes higher than with a cold, and still much higher than a full-grown influenza. Please read and follow what the professionals say on the subject. Having a strong opinion based on hearsay and the internet is no substitute for an ac
  17. Neither seems to have Nikon, or if they do, it didn't help, either, as their new D6 flagship camera has now been announced to be introduced no earlier than May, instead of March...
  18. Ordered September 20, no tracking number, no stock assigned. Didn't think of canceling. Waiting for production to restart.
  19. The good news we can read from that link ist that the infection rate has already decelerated and continues to do so, so this epidemic's peak should be reached soon...
  20. Yes, I'm using one of the tiny, first-generation Chromecast dongles for most of what I watch on the living room TV, and it has been such a decent experience over the years that I'm not even inclined to upgrade it. Android connects easily to those devices, and I either use my phone* or a tablet to operate the dongle, or sometimes the (Vivaldi or Chromium) browser on my Linux laptop. As others said, depending on whether you cast the smartphone's screen or use a cast-enabled app, the smartphone either streams its screen content to the Chromecast dongle over WiFi, or the app tells the Chromecast d
  21. I've done some more 'research' and there are volume apps which offer separate control of notification volume, and I now tried two (arbitrarily selected "Volume Manager" by ByteHamster and "Volume Control Panel Pro" by LeeDrOiD Apps), but at least with the Moto Z3 Play both the ring volume slider and the notification volume slider move when I move either of them. It seems, though, that there actually are some devices which do not physically combine both, even with Android 9 (see this thread on Reddit which is about a different subject but proves that someone managed to control ring volume and n
  22. @Craig Interesting question. On my Moto Z3 Play running Pie I have media volume, call volume, ring volume, alarm volume, but no notification volume. I This is my first phone that gives me the impression that i can't seem to find the optimal sound volume for all the different noises it makes.

I admit, from a functionality/usability point of view, that system-wide app-launching shortcuts are a sensible thing to wish for. If every launcher had the functionality, we wouldn't need to discuss it, but none except the F(x)tec launcher does. It's something you want to have without being forced to use a specific launcher. And while I had a hearty laugh reading the argument who else's job it would be to launch apps if not a launcher's, it's not necessarily a launcher's job to define what a keypress does, even if a concrete job may be launching an app. The question is, of course, whethe
  24. Could have, would have, should have. Whether you understand or not, this is the only vertical slider phone you get at this point, you have no choice, and complaining doesn't make it better. Either get along with the few bugs it still has and wait until they've been fixed, WHICH THEY ACTUALLY ARE BEING RIGHT NOW WITH THE HELP OF BOTH FXTEC PEOPLE AND THE OTHER USERS HERE, or go look elsewhere. Whining about what they could have done better helps noone – at best it achieves nothing, at worst it keeps someone busy reacting to useless accusations who could use the time and energy to be produc
  25. @akinwale: Just FYI, if I remember correctly, sending a followup mail to an unanswered ticket bumps the ticket to the end of the queue, which is a policy of the ticket system they use which they cannot change even if they wanted to...
