Morning i took phone to the nearest service center - it was disassembled here. All connection loops where in salt and green oxide, after cleaning with Kontaktreiniger (Liqui Moly) and assembling it works now. Thanks God, electronics wasn't damaged by short curcuits. Serviceman said that all inner plate connectors are opened and vulnerable to water, and there are lot of holes in cover case - dynamic, microphone, sim-slot... now i try to find as tight silicon case, as it possible. May be glueing with silicon sealant unused holes - f.ex, i dont need 3.5mm jack, because of using bluetooth headset. May be dynamic holes can be sticked up inside. Also it's possible to put on sealant part of magnetic usb cable in the socket, like this:

If i do something like this, i'll post photos here. Water vulnerability is very bad property

@Ilrilan the service center you took it was a normal phone service or was it some kind of FX tec specialist?

I just want to share that i have Galaxy note 8 which is water proof but it has the 3.5 jack and sim slot.

I have seriously tested it while on a trip to iguassu falls where under the water fall with heavy water drooping i took many photos and phone had no issues.

my point is that  having 3.5 doesnt makes it impossible to be water proof

True. Technically, even phones like the Pro1 could be made waterproof but it would probably increase the costs a lot.

Not sure it would increase the production cost much but definitely design time will.

Yes, it requires a lot more thought in the design, especially if you want to keep it easily serviceable too. And keeping water tightness after a repair might be an issue as well. Probably the parts that are required to achieve full water tightness are also more expensive and you have to be a lot more precise during assembly as well. Not to mention the testing. If you advertise something as waterproof you need to test if it really is, and that would be a few extra steps in an already complex manufacturing process.

I'm guessing F(x)tec still have a lot on their plates with solving the issues of the current design and manufacturing process but maybe they could design the next version with this in mind.

I think the biggy would be the keyboard, ensuring it doesn't retain water too much. Be a nuisance submerging it and getting wet fingers each time you type for hours after 😄

Be interesting to see what they do in the future.

Actually I think that one would be fairly easy, as it is a 'mat' and not individual keys.

The good news from this thread seems to be the confirmation the Pro¹ being easily serviceable.
Kudos to you taking the right action and let a professional solve this correctly.
Was that a 3rd party repair shop not related to F(x)tec even or did they recommend to you where to go?

You could indeed dismantle the endangered parts in order to prevent water to get in. That's absolutely no problem with usb ports or aux sockets. The buttons would be more difficult since you'd need a very thin layer around the contacts.

As a manufacturer I'd seal the boards instead of trying too hard to get the phone waterproof. That way, damage should be prevented in most cases.

I hope that this was just a really bad coincidence (snow) and that we won't hear about dead phones due to water soon again...

@SchattengestaIt Snow is ALWAYS a bad coincidence, whether there's a clack involved or not. I should know; I live in one of the snowiest places on earth, Northwestern Michigan (US)

All silliness aside, I put an original Droid through the washer AND dryer and it still mostly worked. Salt is highly corrosive and conductive, and definitely a huge culprit here.

That's one way to clean your device. Cleaning computer keyboards in the dishwasher also works surprisingly well (removing the keycaps helps further) but you need to let it dry for a couple of days before reconnecting it.

But maybe we should just stick it in the dryer or oven!

Yeah, it was an accident. It was left in a pocket. I can't even blame my wife for it.....I was doing my own laundry because I was away from home at the time. LOL.

I was using it as just an old thing for watching videos with Android 4.1 hacked onto it, but one of the guys who worked for me borrowed it to use as a phone AFTER it was washed. The only thing that didn't work was the microphone, so he used it with a bluetooth headset. This was in 2016. Good times. :)

Another problem is curved screen, don't know if you already saw that but a lot of dust goes under the screen on curved parts. You can lift the curved screen on the edges even with your nails, there's no protection there.

Top and bottom parts of the screen are fine because are flat but curved screen + nonglued screen will be a nightmare in the future, I don't know how it is designed under the screen but if there are some parts vulnerable for dust, there will be a lot of failures. I still don't understand why they put curved screen into Pro1, I don't care about "fancy" look.

20200111_124558.thumb.jpg.9816b87a53657585a2152124340ff995.jpg

As you can see, my phone already got some dust inside. This would be a perfect way for water to go into the phone even with things like 3,5mm jack or usb port secured. Anyway, Pro1 made me dislike curved screen phones.

EDIT:

It happens only on the right edge, at least in my case. The screen is slightly to the right, it's not directly on the center, I don't know if it's QA failure or an actual design.

I haven't noticed this type of gap between screen and top part, my Pro1 seems to be aligned well...

Am I right that on the left, you feel screen goes a little bit farther than the top part is?

This doesn't look right to me for what I can tell from the photo there seems to be a gap between the screen and the part it is attached to. There is definitely no gap where dust could get in on mine, I would advice to contact support about this.

Just to make things clear, the gap in the red circle is there because i can lift the screen with my nails(which shouldn't be allowed to happen anyway) and what the gap looks like normally without any lifting is circled with yellow circle, however in that yellow circle it looks like that at all edges, even left ones.

Something like that, the right side of the screen goes a little bit farther than the top part. When I move my finger from the top part to the screen I can feel the difference, unfortunately it's impossible to make a photo of it.

I circled how the gap should look like and how it looks when I lift the screen with nails to make some things clear.

I checked it more closely now... and when I look closely at the screen line looking from the top to bottom, it looks like the top part that hold the screen is slightly warped on the right side, left part is also slightly warped at one point but it's barely noticeable. So, the reason is probably not the screen itself but low quality production of the top part that makes me able to lift the right side of the screen with my nails.

This is definitely not by design, impossible on my unit, the whole edge of the glass is supposed to be recessed. I think the screen is even supposed to be glued (not strongly but enough to dustproof) on the edge. I think you should contact support to get it repaired or replaced.

Nice... I wrote both to fxtec and clove.co.uk(because I bought my phone from them), let's see what fxtec writes about it. I actually prefer to get a replacement from clove once they get their next batch because at least when they have it, they will send it immediately unlike fxtec.

My phone is from clove.co.uk too, have try to lift screen now with nails on each edge and all corners - now, i can't, and there isn't any gaps, looks like monolith element with case, despite the fact that my device already was disassemlbed in the phone service some days ago.

Yes it certainly looks like something is wrong, So you should send it for a swap or repair. Why you would assume clove would fix it faster than F(x)tec I do not know.

Because he's joined the assume-the-worst bandwagon.

I guess that F(x)Tec would pick up my current phone and I would have to wait in the line like everyone else leaving me without the phone for a long time. Clove would either immediately send a replacement(which they don't have currently) or give me full refund. If the phone would have to be repaired then they would have to replace the top part of the phone, I think it's the reason of the problem, this also probably could fix the wobble because it's on the connection of upper part. Question is if they can get that entire part to replace(so far no info about spare parts and it's custom made part) or if it's easier to replace the phone once they are available.
