Have got to look into cases/accessories available. Something to water-proof the device would not be amiss - weather can change very quickly here, from sun to rain and back.

I'm going to guess that will be practically impossible. No case will be able to cover the slider mechanism in both opened and closed states, so you'd need something that aligns with the top and bottom to be waterproof enough every time you close it. And then you also need to cover up the speakers and ports, since I don't think those have the same waterproofing magic waterproof phones' speakers do, so a splash on those would probably be bad.

I could see a waterproof belt holster being made though.

I'm not sure why that could be. Are you holding it right? 😁

jk, never tried it. whats SFOS like?

You might be able to build it youself under sailfish with a little effort.  Source is on github.  If you like playing with that kind of thing.

I am using my as my daily driver, but there are definitely challenges, at least some of which I hope will get better over time:

1. curved screen leading to lots of spurious edge touches - this has turned into the biggest ongoing annoyance. I'm trying to learn different ways of holding the phone, but that also leads me to worries of dropping the phone as it is heavy and if I'm trying to avoid the edges I can't grip it as securely.

2. the fingerprint reader constantly misfiring as a handle the phone. Here's hoping for the "reader is off when the screen is off" feature request.

3. spontaneous reboot about once a day. Hoping this will get better as the software gets more mature.

I know jack about coding, might need to nag one of the devs on tmo for Rockbox on SFOS.

I gave it my best effort, but I think I'm stuck.  But I really dunno what I'm doing.

I even built sdl12-compat successfully, but it in the end, it still manages to complain about sdl - and other things that I don't know how to deal with.  But yeah, ask some TMO guy who has done this before, they'll probably get farther than me.

Using it daily and running stock with Magisk.

I really like the phone, but my two biggest annoyances are the curved screen and the slightly offset keyboard.

The F key is one key off from where my thumb naturally wants to fall. I end up typing gibberish if I try to go full steam ahead without confirming where I put my thumb. I've gotten better and I think this will go away with time.

I wish the keyboard didn't have some many superfluous keys on it like control and the special symbol characters. Hoping I can get used to the new

arrangement, but it is definitely a learning curve. I don't remember having this much difficulty picking up new keyboards.

The curved screen is just a PITA. Edge Null has been a godsend and I have it set to 60 for both landscape and portrait. That helps reduce the mistypes somewhat. I'm hopping someone makes a phone case/condom that wraps around the curved edges and eliminates that issue.

I didn't bother setting up the fingerprint scanner since its location doesn't fit my large hands or how I hold the phone anyway.

Other than that, the phone is a dream. I love the fit and finish. I really enjoy using it.

Edit: I recommend going the Magisk route and Pixelfying the phone. The camera can be immensely improved with the Pixel software camera. There's a bug that inverts the image on night shift, but it comes out correctly and is something that I can live with it.

I just wish I could figure out how to remap the camera button to the pixel camera.

I agree it produces really good photos in dark environment.
Just experiencing it the second day and it seems to be really good.

My main problem with it that it does not have an option of saving to SD Card.
There is a Gcam Tool which can copy/move (when payed) them to SD Card but it is a later operation so it still uses internal flash which I wanted to avoid.

In night mode the image is strange but taken photos are good.

It also has a really working HDR function which can capture good photos.

Magisk isn't required to make something work in the Pixel camera app though? You are saying you recommend doing those two things separately?

Oh brother!  This is the first I've heard about this.  So because they took the SD card out of the Pixel, they *had* to rip the option out to write to the SD card when it is available?  Really good thinking by google engineers there.

Do you know if that Pocophone version of gcam has the same issue?  That one apparently took better pictures in low light vs the Pixel version, from what I remember reading on here.

My only thought about the SD card issue is that if a phone is rooted, an app like FolderMount (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en_US&showAllReviews=true) can be used.  I use that on my old phone.  It apparently doesn't work with Magisk yet, but the same mechanism for creating a bind mount could be done manually, I would guess.

I just set up my SD card as internal storage. Solves the problem for the most part.

Good to know the Pixel stuff isn't needed for the camera. Regardless, I like the pixel features 😀

Now I have installed it but I have not found this option in it either.

Yes, it should work but without root rights it is not an option - that is one thing why I don't like Android...

My Fxtec Pro1 has run out of battery a few days ago. Couldn't switch it on since then, no signs of life. Leaving it in the 5V 3A charger overnight didn't seem to help.

It does show up in lsusb, when connected to laptop - as Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode) . fastboot doesn't see the device, though.

dmesg reports the following: new high-speed USB device number 58 using ehci-pci ; New USB device found, idVendor=05c6, idProduct=9008 ; New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 ; Product: QUSB__BULK ; Manufacturer: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM ; qcserial :1.0: Qualcomm USB modem converter detected ; Qualcomm USB modem converter now attached to ttyUSB0 .

In short, I have no idea how to switch it back on again, short of disassembling the device to charge the battery externally. And I am reluctant to disassemble the device, having no service manual. And I wish I could tell the Qualcomm thing in QDL mode to just start charging the battery, however empty it is.

Have filed support requests 3440 and 3448 about this with info@fxtec.com , they should be merged into one support request.

I hope it will be possible to return the device to the land of conscious without having to re-flash it. As absurd as it may sound, I do not wish to lose SMSs/history-of-phone-calls that are on it, however brief the history is.

Thank you. Best wishes.

Per aspera ad astra...

P.S. I didn't use NFC. I kept mobile data switched off. I used Bluetooth sparingly, mostly in invisible mode. Lately, I had Location switched off, as well. There should have been no battery drain significant enough to bring phone from 21% charged to impossible-to-switch-on within a span of few hours, I would have thought... But then, I see no battery-saving-mode inside Sailfish OS?..

P.P.S. Weather here is quite impossible, changing from sunny to rainy within one day, at times. Without a waterproof belt holster (which does sound like a marvelous idea, thank you, Zamasu !), I cannot possibly keep an eye on the phone to obsessively check state of its battery. Even when I am walking and not cycling (cycling in the rain sounds dangerous, especially on road), reaching into backpack isn't the easiest thing in the world.

P.P.P.S. I wish there were easy-to-buy screen protectors available. The one in the box is nice, but it's already slightly damaged - will need a replacement soon.

fastboot oem off-mode-charge 1

...and a couple of other useful settings

adb shell settings put global sms_outgoing_check_max_count 99999
adb shell settings put global sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms 9000

If you don't want to be nagged by Android on sending 'many' base-sms within a short time span.

I think the default is 100 in half an hour, so if you are sending a 600 char text with just a single special letter to ten friends - you reach the limit, and are nagged for half an hour

I do know how to get into bootloader so that fastboot would work - I have done it before, while flashing Sailfish OS onto the device. Nevertheless, repeat of the information can be helpful.

Unfortunately, currently the device is unable to go into bootloader mode. Yes, I have tried pressing vol-down+power button when the phone is either not connected to anything, plugged into the charger, or plugged into the laptop. Nothing. "fastboot devices" doesn't give a single line.

If/when the device somehow does show signs of life, I will enact "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 1" to hopefully prevent a recurrence.

I do not know whether any charging is happening in QDL mode. I do not know if current supplied by laptop is sufficient, if it is so.

I do not know whether any charging is happening when plugged into the charger; certainly doesn't seem so, with overnight "charging" not changing anything.

I do not know what can be done during QDL mode, with /dev/ttyUSB0 , or how to get out of QDL mode.

Thank you. Best wishes.

I know this sounds stupid but I had a similar issue with mine.

I found mine powered off but I don't think it had run out of battery. It would not turn back on and wouldn't take a charge. I warmed the phone up by keeping in an inside shirt pocket and after a while I tried the power button and it came back to life! Hope it helps 🙂
