  1. Yep very good idea simply using a 1A-only port. I am exactly with you here, I don't need fast charge, the phone already lasts all day and 1A or even 0.5A is enough to recharge overnight. I was just lazy and did not do this, and now paid the price. I am a little happy though because I learned a lot, and I am now more certain of the quality and my ability to maintain/repair the phone. The Pro-1X will only be as good or better. Did more digging, and agree the Pro-1X is as compatible as it could possibly be including the battery. So I'll be ordering one on Indiegogo - along with the extra scr

  2. @SlionSadly all too true in general... However... 😃 !!! I FIXED IT !!! 😃 Disassembly was easy with guide referenced above on github. Actually impressed by how repairable this phone is. Removed battery (cell), did the "prick a hole in the cell to release the gas" trick (don't try this at home - see below). Put it back together and my phone is working just fine after 4 hours' careful work. Will be ordering a new battery from Indiegogo. Obviously, the battery is degraded but phone is working 100%. Yay! * * * The full story... Root cause analysis: I now think it

  3. I haven't heard of any battery problems yet but the battery can be replaced relatively easily. However, I can not provide you any replacement battery sources except what you may find at their Indiegogo site (and which claims delivery next February if that is true). Anyway, currently I don't remember what an expanding battery may destruct inside (physically) but it may be a good idea to remove it before causing additional problems in the device...

  4. Update: fx support got back to me and offered a free replacement screen assembly, which they claim will become available some time in January. They also pointed me to an aliexpress seller and suggested if I want it fixed sooner, I could buy this at my own expense. With fx timelines being what they are, I am not holding my breath for January, so have ordered screen from Aliexpress. Meanwhile, my current screen has mainly settled down and just sometimes has that one unresponsive row, but no crazy random presses, thank goodness! It seems I may now have another major problem - the batter

  6. I have picked a USB charger which has a 5V 1A-capable port along with a QC 12V compatible second port. I use the former to charge my Pro1 overnight which is well enough for me for daily use and it does not cause any excessive heat of the phone at all. Yes, I think. They wanted to manufacture the very same phone which was not possible, but they still wanted to keep as much of the Pro1 as possible, so there is high chance for the battery remained the same. I am glad you could solve the most urgent problem in your phone. I am agree there are two possibilities of long-term solut

  7. I use my Pro1 using LineageOS with two SIM cards and I have no problems with it. However, I have experienced a similar problem when VoLTE was enabled but Mobile Data was connected using the other card, so that may be the cause of such a problem. ...but otherwise it works well with 4G enabled, but only primary card can use 4G (by design, not limited to Pro1). So in a country (like in the USA) where 4G is the only option (so no 3G or 2G coverage), the usage of two SIM cards really does not work because of technical limitations.

  8. Oh... and the ugly: I lost the rubber microphone damper (for the main mic) somewhere on the floor while removing the back cover. Phone calls are still loud and clear, but now markedly more sensitive to slight hand movements or brushing of the phone against the ear etc. while talking 😞 Moral of the story: microphone dampers are important - don't lose them!!

  9. My stock Android 9 was working fine but I missed things like proper dark mode and full screen gesture navigation. LOS is far from bug free though. For instance I recently noticed one of my SIM cards won't receive calls when 4G is enabled. That is a major showstopper if you ask me. I have not bothered reporting that issue outside of those forum yet.

  10. Thanks for the advice & encouragement - I found the teardown guide thread and github (https://github.com/imax9000/fxtec-pro1-teardown) - as you say, does not look too bad. It may be something else, but phone expanding for no reason my first thought is always the battery! So definitely will open it and check, and if it is indeed the battery, nurse it along with no fast-charging (I am actually annoyed that it fast-charges, I don't need this, and it wears out the battery). I see the spare battery on Indiegogo, do you think the Pro1X spare battery is definitely the same as for the Pro1? K

  11. I don't know @Slion's reasons but for me, it started doing a soft-reboot loop every time when I have restarted my phone. Later, it has also started doing the same loop every time I put my phone to charger. That loop took for half an hour or so before the system booted up correctly. Also, uptime was still increasing, only Android soft-restarted on top of the kernel. After a while, I did a factory reset and it worked fine, but after all applications were reinstalled, it started doing the same loop. After another factory reset and unticking some applications during restore, it wor

  12. The point is that the major components that make the SoC useful as a phone are closed-source, like on any typical Android device using similar SoCs. As a consequence, all projects of using a fully open-source Linux OS on the Pro1 are just proofs-of-principle that, while academically interesting, are so far from prime-time that the last Pro1 will likely have gone the way of all silicon before they mature to the point of becoming practically useful. Do not get me wrong: this is not an unusual situation. Practically all Android devices depend on these proprietary blobs, as we both know. As o

  13. What were the main reasons for your change to Lineage? I understand it solves the "I cannot modify the call volume issue." I am interested since you gave a long try to the pro 1 with stock Android.

  14. I don't think they have the parts, they just have the contracts for the parts (It is wild guessing at my side though). So there is still room for problems. Also their update mention some missing parts indirectly: ``` We need to re-make the individual parts for the new mini-board and back cover (due to the redesign mentioned above). ```

  15. I think issues related to COVID is still a real risk especially if the factory where it is under assembly is highly affected, but I hope this kind of issue will not come up. They are definitively going forward. I hope they will also go through for example FCC approval soon and they can start mass production then and starting to ship devices later. I would assume they may ship devices in next January, hopefully before Chinese New Year.

  17. I want the pro1 keyboard layout to match with my desktop keyboard, since I will run linux proot on pro1 and want to have my emacs+vim keybindings and muscle memory matching across devices.

  18. I've discovered a workaround of sorts. For whatever reason, pairing the devices (both my car audio and my headphones), allowing them to fail to connect, then turning off contact sharing in the "previously connected devices" list on the Pro1 makes them connect successfully most of the time. On the occasions when they don't connect, restarting the phone seems to sort it out. It's still not 100% reliable, but I can at least use them now.

  19. Has any one else has problems connecting to bluetooth devices with the Pro1? I have three devices I want to use. My Gear S3 smartwatch, a pair of Anker Smartcore earbuds, and my car's handsfree audio. The watch has worked pretty much without issue from day one, but connection to the earbuds is sporadic at best, and I have made exactly zero successful connections to my car. This is the only major outstanding issue I've had and I've been holding out in hopes of an update sorting it out, but f(x)tec has been quiet to the point of non-existent about what we can expect going forward.

  20. I have one other device, which is used, currently remembered. Zero unused devices, they've all been removed. This was not an issue with my two previous phones, or my partner's current and previous phones.

  21. Anyway, someone wrote here earlier about a problem with car bluetooth receiver because of too many learnt devices. So it may help if you could delete older, unused devices from receiver's memory.

  22. Mine works fine with a bluetooth mouse with no issues. My car's handsfree audio is a whole different story. Whilst it seems to connect to the car's system in that it shows my contacts information, phone history and I can instigate a phone call via the car's system, when making a call, the audio doesn't consistently transfers to the car's system. The annoying thing about it is that I can't tell if it's going to work or not until I make the call. Even if the phone is connected and the audio is transferred successfully at the start of a journey, if I make a call later in the journey it may

  23. I woke up this morning to find my pro1 has expanded (case come unclipped along front of keyboard). I have not opened the shell to check but almost certainly it must be the battery. Has anyone else had an expanding battery? Is there any source of replacement batteries? Has anyone successfully replaced the battery?

  24. Well, damn. It most certainly *is* the battery...

  25. I just had this issue for the first time yesterday (after only ever having run Lineage 18 on the phone since I got it a year ago). Rebooting appeared to solve it and everything seemed fine again. HOWEVER, this morning I noticed that my phone is expanding!! So I think I actually have a battery fault. Does anyone know anything about replacement batteries? Searching the forum, it does not look good!
