  1. I don't have a twitter account, does anyone know how to respond to this person?
  2. Uhm, what? Linux Kernel does it the same way as described above. We are currently at version 5.3.13, before that was 5.3.12. Current longterm kernel is 4.19.86 and before that was 4.19.85 and you will find there also exists a 4.18.2 version, for example. The numbering is completely continouus, the only 'arbitrary' thing is when Linus decides to jump from one major to the next (so 2.* to 3.* to 4.* to 5.*). By his own words he decides to jump when the minor gets 'too big'. That is different from most software projects where a jump in the major version indicates an overhaul or a massive influx o
  3. Fair point. However, I was under the impression that SFOS devs had Pro1 devices for quite some time now, same as the Lineage people, based on twitter comments and such. As for UbuntuTouch the issue wouldn't be solved by having a Pro1, they have to update their code to support Android 9 and newer. For whatever reason they are stuck in 2016.
  4. As someone from the first batch: FFS people, the OS on the device is a bit buggy [I haven't tried the installed Android as I don't want to use pure Android], there are currently no alternatives to 'normal' Android [UbuntuTouch would require an older version of Android] except for SFOS and that is even buggier, so why do you stress so much about this? I currently have a brick at home that at best can be used as a paper weight. It will be weeks before SFOS is usable (probably) and we have no idea when and if LineageOS will have a port out and how buggy that one is going to be. So just ca
  5. huh, I seemed to have forgotten that. Thanks for reminding me :).
  6. So, actual question: What exactly is preventing someone from - you know - just unlocking the boot loader after you locked it? Last time I checked all you needed was a code from the company that manufactured the device. Which anyone can get a hold of fairly easily (all you need is the IMEI of the device).
  7. So I started setting my machine up to compile UbuntuTouch for Pro1, but I'm now stuck at the step where I need to get source files for the Pro1. The thing that I just read, before I seem to have skipped the version number, is that you need the sourcefiles for LineageOS 14.1 which would be Android 7. Not Android 9 / Lineage OS 17. That doesn't seem really...secure? https://docs.halium.org/en/latest/porting/get-sources.html
  8. @VaZso yeah, I'm now clear on the reasons. All the hardware com stuff - I didn't know about that since I assumed that there would be some kind of BIOS that handles that for the operating system - similiar to x86. All good now in the sense that I got the message ;).
  9. Yeah - except the Linux kernel itself already includes a lot of drivers to a point where on the x86 architecture every imagineable driver is already included. And the entire thing barely reaches 90 MB of space. Driver size isn't the issue. As others mentioned, ARM doesn't have a BIOS equivalent (which I didn't knew.) and a lot of propiertary drivers (why companies do that is beyond me.) @netman thank you for that explanation Also: Apparently Ubuntu Touch can be compiled if one has the kernel sources of the phone available. I think Waxberry once said they would put those
  10. Yeah but seems like Pro1 isn't supported. I really don't understand that about smartphones - why do they all need seperate images? That is such a frustrating thing about Android/ARM.
  11. didn't Canonical work on a mobile version of Ubuntu?# edit ah nvm, they stopped working on that two years ago.
  12. Same, so I brought it two Nokia and they repaired it. Dunno if they did something different but after the 2nd replacement it just kept working 🙂
  13. So - I got the phone today and I'm completely satisfied with the pouch that came with it. The only thing I would have loved - or something I will have to buy - would have been a more 'gritty' backside, similiar to the Moto Z Plus. The FxTec Pro1 is slippery compared to every other phone I ever had. (@Eske didn't you write somewhere that they received feedback on that during a meet up and wanted to make it less slippery?) edit after comparing it to phones of my colleagues, it doesn't seem that bad. I guess I just naturally went for phones that had a 'grittier' panel or were sma
  14. Got the parcel today. Delivery guy confirmed that the package was missing the company name on the shipping label yesterday. I checked my emails and the email from FxTec clearly showed the company name. To anyone that is using a company address as delivery address: Contact FxTec to make sure they really include the company name on the shipping label. On the old shipping label, instead of the company name, it had my name a second time. And the 'Straße' part read 'Straaye'.
  15. FYI: I didn't get my delivery today. My UPS tracking info says that the address information was incomplete. Upon calling their hotline it turned out that while FxTec had sent me an email that included the company name and address, what they had put on the parcel didn't include the company name. So if any of you decided to be clever and let it be delivered to where you work, contact UPS or FxTec so that one of them can correct/check the information that was entered. (Also the UPS website is horrible, just so that's said. Their telephone robot is top though.).
  16. My status just changed to picked up(?) and delivery prediction says tuesday
  17. How many blenders could a blender blend if a blender could blend blenders? Also inb4 someone asks if the boxes contain the phones or if we just get the boxes now and the phones will be send later.
  18. UK to Germany, just received my tracking number as well. UPS as well. Keyboard layout is QWERTZ and I'm a original backer of the keyboard mod. The current status of the delivery is "label created".
  19. oh. Well. I figured everyone knew that already. Thanks for clarifying.
  20. Sorry, the word 'private' in that place doesn't make sense to me in that context. From your post I'm guessing there is a difference between airfreight and private airfreight...? I just saw the Twitter post and since it is a statement and not meant as a reaction to another post, I figured it was a clarification on how stuff is delivered.
  21. Regarding actual delivery: Over on twitter Liangchen wrote that transport via plane is out of the question, which means everything is going on ships which, at least for EU customers, we are talking about delivery times > 3 weeks to the fullfilment center. Fine by me. Would have been nice to get this information on the forums though. What confuses me a bit is that he is saying that they don't have private warehouses, isn't a fullfilment center just a fancy word for a warehouse?
  22. Might someone explain a bit more in depth what the deal with SailfishOS and not running Android application on the Pro 1 is? And what specifically would prevent a random user enabling said support? As far as I know SailfishOS is open-source and on here https://sailfishos.org/wiki/Android_Compatibility it just says that Android applications are compatible if Dalvik is integrated into the Sailfish build one uses. So where is this "SailfishOS on Fx Pro1 does not support Android apps" coming from/why is that a thing?
  23. me neither, but I'm not really familiar with how that works. I would expect our custom office to check a new device out when it first enters Germany, regardless from where it comes. However, I have discovered in the past that my expectations of how things work are...a bit too high/complicated ;).
  24. yes?! That isn't why I thought customs office would be involved. This is a tech product, manufactured in China and not from a big company. German customs love to look into these. See if they have the necessary certifications (CE logo), that there is a german section in the manual (even if it just says that you have to download the german manual from the company's website) and some other 'stuff'. I remember back when the Pebble watch was finally being delivered to people some were nearly destroyed because of missing documents (EG conformation declaration, not in a proper parcel, no
  25. oh, you mean because first 'contact' with EU land would be outside of Germany. Yeah, might be true. That way FxTec would have to deal with them. I hadn't thought of that. I guess in that case, remove the two days of 'maybe customs' and add a day for the delivery network to get the phone to the target country.
