Which is the date at which version 5.5, the one that kept being cited as showing how Adups is trustworthy, was relevant. I don't know about their next version. Are you saying that it doesn't matter because despite versions before 5.5 being openly admitted as spywares, and their secure version that is 5.5 being denounced as such, surely version 6, or whatever's the current one, is no longer is a spyware? If so, I have some bridges to sell.
-
Not to do a thorough investigation, clearly. From the more recent presentation made by the team that exposed them on the previous version, 5.5 is still a spyware, it's just a bit more covert about it.

Contractual, I believe, since it has a remote root access on your device so that it can install/update any software/firmware it needs/wants to, that's its actual purpose as a FOTA. From what I understand, it is also purposefully meant to also have spyware functions if needed for device manufacturers in countries (or companies) in which regulations either do not forbid or require the presence of this kind of malware. I don't think any of us is actually arguing that this is not potential malware, just that F(x)tec is paying extra for it not to be (or maybe it's the opposite and F(x)tec actually

The original report made to the US government for Adups being a spyware is available here. There should be another report that showed how they continued, from what I can tell by skimming articles. ... And you actually made my point moot while I was writing my post by telling us that yes, it's a spyware if either you or they choose it to be. On an over-the-air updating software. Sorry, is that not really blatant malware? Sure, there's a backdoor, don't worry, we won't use it (although we did before), we promise.
-
From further reading, it seems Adups actually continued to spy after being caught, they just did a bit more discretely. They should probably change their keyboards, those typos are quite problematic. I really hope there's a better defense to installing spywares/backdoors than this. I am not familiar with Android, is FOTA support required, or is it just a convenience to not have to plug your device into a computer so that it updates?

From what I've found on the internet, this is made by a company who was caught a few years ago on a serious case of spying on its users, they defended themselves by saying those spying functionalities where enabled "by mistake" (you know, they likely typo'd all that spying stuff into their software, it happens...) and that next versions do not do that spying stuff. It's software that intended to automatically update over the air. The fact that the company survived this blunder baffles me. That's basically a remote root access to your device for update & software management purposes, r

That could realistically be a generic message sent without them realizing that your phone is in the second batch, since, from what I've understood, all of the first batch has been sent and "currently still shipping our earlier Pro1 pre-orders" would then apply to the second batch. I am still on the fence about this though, as rumors of delays I've seen contradict previous public statements from F(x)tec members have all been proven right so far.
-
It was definitely a pre-order, since it has the pouch in the pictures. They mean that this is not one of the pre-release units, such as the one that EskeRahn has (I don't recall if he also got a post-release one).
-
I am having a hard time understanding how one goes from to the one month delay implied by Was there an incident at the factory? Could F(x)tec at the very least inform their customers when delays occur instead of leaving them in the dark until they start asking support individually?

The red light peeking through torn out cloth looks creepy to me.

A very similar thing killed my Sony Xperia mini pro. It was with an ID card though. I really thought it was an incredibly improbable occurrence. Is this a frequent issue with that kind of phone?

Doesn't look like the weight was ever there, when we use a time machine. The info can be found in the comments of https://www.instagram.com/p/B2fAv1Nna8l/, and is indeed "around 240g".

I have a Blackberry Q10, which runs Blackberry OS 10 (which is now abandoned). I have no replacement for WhatsApp, and it has indeed been a problem when I was still a student as the class exchanged important information on it. I resorted to installing an x86 version of Android on a VM on my computer, and it did the job. Having it on my phone would definitely have been better. I don't know any other mainstream app. I really wish they would update the MMS protocol so that WhatsApp became obsolete. BB OS 10 has a very nice messaging hub, so the email & phone functionalities work ver

This is not actually possible with Sailfish OS on the Pro1, as I am guessing WhatsApp only provides binaries for iOS and Android. The Sailfish OS that is being talked about for the Pro1 is a community port, which does not include support for Android applications. I believe Lineage OS is something of a fork of Android with Google services-based applications removed. It should still be compatible with most Android applications, unless they specifically require an untouched Android (I've heard that some banking applications do that). The point of running Sailfish for me is that this is a Lin

Liangchen said. This fits what they told us before: people with vouchers are (justifiably) going first. This was a message reacting so someone without voucher getting the notification about shipping, so we can't be sure that all people with vouchers are going to get in it the first batch. Thus, no way to know for sure if you're going to see the notification.

Thank you, I was wondering what the height of the keyboard part was. Difficult to find a match without that. Sounds like it would look much better than what I had in mind. We would just have to cut out the borders where the buttons don't match and a different hole for the camera/flashlight, which is definitely doable on leather + plastic.
-
Looks like it relies on having a large surface to grip on the sides of the phone, which, as EskeRahn pointed out, is not at all available on the Pro1. I'm counting on the rubber material to be elastic enough to hold will little grip.I would also prefer an open back design, in case the phone needs to cool. I am currently looking at the "universal rubber frame" that can found on the internet, but most of them have the corners bumps start inside the phone's border, which is not something that will work with the Pro1. The others are really simply a rubber band, which does not leave holes for

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy some custom rubber molding for cheap? The bottom part of the phone can clearly support something like The screen part is more tricky, as anything protruding from beneath it may impede the opening mechanism. Could we perhaps cover the short sides of the screen by clipping something like but obviously much thinner and better looking?
-
See, my main issue with this phone so far was the curved screen. Not only can you see that it leads to ugly light reflections in every single photo we've seen of the device, but it also means that the screen is going to be very fragile. Nearly everyone I know with a screen this size has cracks on it. I don't have this problem at the moment, my six years old Q10 falls regularly and doesn't have a single one. Now, I wasn't too worried: they clearly thought this through by ensuring that a protection case would exist, as they themselves would make it. It was even their reply to that criticism

So pretty much something I can buy at my local supermarket, but with a Fxtec logo on it? I'll be honest with you: I'm not sure I want to bother going back to the post office to get it, please make it optional. I mean, come on, at this point you clearly have to see how much you keep backpedaling and we keep finding out stuff that you clearly have known for a while and definitely should have told us. I don't mind setbacks, but I mind dishonesty very much. Any more of these? Are the batteries still removable? Is the bootloader still unlocked?
-
Hopefully this will get fixed by the time we get the device. I'd really love to go for a hacked together Sailfish OS + Gentoo Prefix setup on the Pro1, but I still need standard smartphone functionalities (Phone, SMS, MMS, cellular network internet, GPS, and flashlight) to work reliably.
-
I had not. This is a pretty cool idea, and has the advantage of actually being doable with the Pro1. I was more thinking about support for flat joysticks (a la 3DS), as I didn't see the issue of using the keyboard for the regular buttons, but I guess it lowers the chances of using the wrong keys.

A way to not use the WYSIWYG editor when posting would be nice. It's actually the first time I've ever seen it not have an "edit source" or equivalent button that would let you write your message as either BBCode or restricted HTML.
