I see and fully support your point that aggressive ranting about F(x)tec, as is popular on the IGG forum, does not help anyone and certainly will not lead to better communication.

However, what you are insinuating is also wrong: customers should not need to be "friends" with companies they do business with in order to get support queries answered.

Anyway, your "system" is not scalable: if we all had personal ties with the guys at F(x)tec, their mailboxes would be flooded with cat pictures in addition to our user requests. I do not see how that would improve responsiveness ... 😉

I agree. Customers should not need to be friends, but everyone needs to be a human being.

As far as the scalability, guess it's a good and a bad thing that it's just 1 person doing the occasional flooding. :D

Production does indeed seem to be starting...

Please stop. You made your points, there are people here who invested in this project knowing that, you are doing a disservice to the intent of the project and to those that have supported this f

Since I ordered my first Fxtec phone, a Pro1, in Sept 2019 (which also seems to become the one to arrive last...) I've read everything Fxtec communicated (plus every comment in this forum), including

I just came to the believe, that the smartphone market is really broken. If we want a new supplier, that isn't a china supported company, we will have to live with the struggle. Sure they could probably communicate better. But I guess they keep attention to not piss off any suppliers.

This causes me to ask, when Nokia was the powerhouse in the 2000s they had supply chains around the world on phone production, right? I recall phones manufactured in the region they would be consumed, i.e. i thought if I recall phones made in almost each continent, is that correct?

Well, I don't know about the 2000s but until 1997 local products where common, Switzerland had ASCOM phones for example. So I guess some cheaper countries had local products for longer.

Will I get my phone in time for a year late birthday present in four weeks? The continued good news has me hopeful that it could arrive on the day which would be great but I'm thinking it will be slightly longer than that even if all goes to plan.

I think you may have a slight chance if you have a "contribution ID" low enough but I doubt if you have ordered later.

My ID is 2004, that may be 4 too many which would be annoying but probably 1004 after the first batch.  What's another month or two at the this point 🙂

You also might want to remember that there still is a probably small, but unknown amount of unfulfilled Pro1 orders which were converted to Pro1X orders that I very much hope will be served first! 😉

Oh crumb! I bought the Pro1X a few days ago and just followed a link to Indiegogo where I found it for about $50.00 less with an included extra battery and 2 screen protectors?? Did I just really mess up?

Strictly you can always cancel a preorder. But you can not cancel a perk on IGG.
A preorder gives you a guarantee to either get the device or your money back. A IGG perk is like a share. We invest and hope to get the perk. Though at this late stage of the IGG campaign where production are said to start this week, the risk should be fairly low. Also make sure to check what the terms are for taxes and shipment, they might be included in one and not the other, (might vary with region)

Excellent - Thank you.  I think I will stay with what I have.

Would GOTA (Google Over The Air) imply the device will be getting over the air system updates as long as Google themselves make them? That would be a major improvement for those choosing stock Android.

I wouldn't assume so, rather more related to the provider of the OTA mechanism rather than the update itself.  This old topic might help for context.

April Pro1-X update

djujegowawhxluwmktwk.jpg

Dear Pro1-X backers,

Here is a quick update regarding your Pro1-X:

The news you have all been waiting for… mass manufacturing has officially begun!

  • All Pro1-X components have now been shipped to the specialist surface mounting factory ready for Surface-mount technology (SMT). This is the very first step in the mass manufacturing assembly line.
  • We start the SMT process after pre-production verification because if we complete the SMT process too early and find issues later on, then the components will be wasted and this could result in another delay. There are no issue at this moment in time.
  • The SMT process will take around 10 days (including shipping to our assembly factory).
  • Once the boards have been delivered, the assembly line will begin full-scale mass manufacturing and assembly of the devices. This will take approximately 1-2 weeks.
  • Based on this timeline, we expect to begin mass shipping your Pro1-X’s in mid-late May!

On the software side, we have also passed all of the GMS tests and received the official documentation and certificates for this yesterday. The Pro1-X will now use GOTA for the OTA instead of Adpus for the Pro1.

We have also been working closely with OS developers for new engineering units. Further development for Lineage OS, Ubuntu Touch, and Sailfish OS (community port) will continue over the next few weeks.

We are so excited to start shipping these devices out to you all. As always, thank you all for your continued patience and support - we can not wait for you to receive your new and exclusive Pro1-Xs!

Team Fxtec 🙂

I read somewhere that we will get a free case if we pre-ordered, right? I ordered off of this website - does that include my order? Indiegogo has offers for an extra battery, screen protectors and a case so I am not sure what direction to go in. Any ideas what would be best.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the free stuff. OG Pro1 owners were supposed to get a decent case for free (back when pre-orders for that were a thing), they swapped it out for a lame sleeve (was in the box with the phone). The promised free headphones never came. lol

Lol...Okay then, not holding my breath. I think I will just wait and see. Besides, now we have until the end of May so plenty of time. Thanks for the response.

Mid to late May now?  Wow.  Really getting tired of waiting.  Just got a notification from AT&T that they plan to shut my entire phone off May 4th.  I am not sure I can wait anymore.

May I ask, how long have you been waiting for the Pro1X?

Anyway, until recently, they only had rough predictions on potential shipping times or even less... there were too many uncertainities.

Now they are starting to share more information simply because the number of potential uncertainities are highly decreased, so this date is mch more accurate than any earlier dates... not because those dates were already elapsed, but because we see FCC certification went through, they state components are arrived, etc, so it seems it is up to the factory and logistics which will determine the actual shipping date of the phone.

True about the lame sleeve, but I got my free headphones.
