  1. Thomas Bonde Pedersen has at IGG posted a fix for the not charging Pro1! ADD: This has been confirmed to work by other users! Please try it, before disassembly (or send in for service)

  2. So I ended up building my own phone. Backstory: A few of you know me for my hardware modding adventures. I've replaced the broken USB port with a new port. I've then removed the fingerprint sensor to replace it with a secondary USB port for a more comfortable landscape mode. I filed away some parts of the display mount to make it more durable and I was about to replace the battery while reusing the old BMS. I did all of that to make my Pro1 work as I wouldn't want to live without a keyboard phone. Sadly, the issues didn't stop. The camera quality is bad, it's horr

  3. So, it appears that I was able to repair my Pro1-X's radios. Previously, telephony and mobile data wouldn't work for me, as documented earlier in this thread. WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS had always worked perfectly. It turned out that my Pro1X was missing most of its "antenna" connector springs. My main antenna (aka. USB) board was missing two of its three connectors, and the last one broke off while I was diagnosing the problem. See picture attached. It appears these things are really fragile. Also my "diversity" antenna board was missing one connector, which I found rattling in a

Hopefully that means there will be an update soon, I'll quote Casey so as to not misrepresent. After verifying that the photo in the last update was a new photo, he was asked if the units had been tested for battery problems. He said: I am just quoting from Discord. I can't answer clarification questions. I just thought this information would be nice for folks over here who don't go to Discord. As I said, maybe this means there

  6. Make your displays last longer I've recently ordered a bunch of those 'b-ware' displays and out of seven, two were in good condition and one is usable (~20€ each). That's okayish since there are no good displays to order anymore. As the displays are so scarce nowadays and they never caused touchscreen problems when assembled in the original phones (Elephone U Pro), I've looked more into the touchscreen issues. I've inspected the frame and searched for a point of failure. And I think I found one. Using one of the broken displays in my order (big black dots over the display) I found o

  7. Today a Pro1-X arrived at my place. IGG-Contribution around #4000, July 2022. (Enthusiast Pro1-X bundle) Pro1-X 8GB + 256G, Keyboard Layout: QWERTZ , Pre-Installed OS: LineageOS. IIRC no engraving, black. A sapphire blue QWERTZ-device was shipped (the color looks great, btw). S/N < 7000. XDA-engraving on the back. Seals of the packing where already broken. The battery was approx 1/3 full at arrival. it was no problem to recharge it. The device was shipped with stock android. Screen protectors, spare batteries and screens where not included. Importtax to Germany was 28,50 EUR,

I am with Aldi Mobile (Telstra) and have been using the "GSM/WCDMA preferred" up until today (and have needed to use dodgy hacks as mentioned in this thread of enabled/disabling speaker phone when performing a call). So I've seen many places where you put this code in the dialer: *#*#4636#*#* But its VoLTe is always greyed out no matter what. I am not sure if Telstra have some whitelisting going on or what. Anyway, what finally ended up work

  9. My Primary use of a phone is SMS, and the secondary email, and the third web-browsing. All of which benefits from a keyboard in the right direction. But I certainly agree that many many app-developers are too sloppy (or too incompetent?) to bother about landscape. And this even goes for the most basic stuff from Google like Settings or their Android Market app. But until my eyes move to be in parallel with my spine, I'll prefer landscape....

  10. Ok, so, good news! After some pondering, I decided to open the thing up. It was actually not that hard to take apart, the official Fxtec instructions for disassembling Pro1/Pro1 X (https://vimeo.com/483552998) were easy to follow. Note: I did not use a prying tool, as I found it easier to do with my fingers (as the plastic frame is fitted to the metal quite snuggly, I found it hard to get a prying tool in there). And a word of caution: the black paint on the back of the display chips really easily when removing the 5 screw covers. Once I had the display frame removed and the ribbon

  13. That is a very mild wording. They got swindled. They paid and the company neither delivered the chips nor their money back. And as this was the company that had most of the blueprints of the Pro1, it meant that FxTec had to start over. They could have just folded after that, and said that our money was lost, but idealists as they are, they tried to recreate a new phone in the same form factor from the money left. Actually they deserve praise for attempting that. For the Pro1, Chen was very often in China to get things going as planned, as "remote" does not work well with China,

  14. Overall I think this is a quite good analysis. That they managed to grow the (SD835) Pro1 from the ash of the Livermorium project almost seems like a miracle from today's perspective. The original Pro1 was indeed far from perfect. It had its QA issues, and also some design flaws. But overall, as you can tell from the numbers of Pro1s vs. Pro1-Xs offered on the aftermarket, those who have one tend to cling to their Pro1 to this date. It will remain the best (last?) keyboard slider for some time to come. Despite owning also a Pro1-X (admittedly through Expansis' grey-marketing 😳), I recentl

I like how it works now even so it not anything like Pro1. https://youtube.com/shorts/1MKx5WJQYBY?si=EVlCHOW1qPO22pJX I flipped the left side sliding mechanism so it is more durable. For the right side I had to use narrower mechanism so I could not fit circle magnets to the upper part. I used magnetic stripe/tape instead. It is not as strong but good enough. Now I am thinking if I can identify keyboard position (closed or not) with NFC. Y

  19. No, I think you got me wrong. No offence but, like many, you do not seem to understand what "Linux" really is. Do not worry, you are not alone in this. Especially people with many years of experience in running Linux on x86/64 servers or workstations often make wrong assumptions when it comes to embedded systems, like phones. Android does use a real Linux kernel, and thus is a true Linux system. You can grab its kernel source from kernel.org, configure it to you liking and create your own custom ROMs based on it. The only limitation is that you practically can only run the single major ke

  20. It's hard to say whether these antenna connectors were broken when shipped, or due to disassembly on your part. Have you've heard the antenna rattle inside the phone when you first received it? Would that be the reason why you took apart your device to check? The antenna springs are indeed fragile. Not like other devices we see in the market, they normally have antenna pins pointing upwards, not sideways that contacts the frame. This can be especially seen in devices that have metal enclosures. The antenna springs on the Pro1-X are surface mounted via SMT, and the glue is to fix it in

I understand your concerns about us being silent for the past months, there just wasn't much to tell everyone. Though, now I'm pretty confident we'll get devices shipped out asap. At the moment, our shipping partner has finished counting the stock and are awaiting our shipping list - which we're compiling as we speak. I estimate devices should start shipping in the next two weeks in batches.

Also, the layout will take some time to get used to it. Especially the back key is on weird location. Android automatically manages Scandic layout quite well. Here is first mockup with iPhone 11 Pro case that I had in a drawer. It is too short but I am still waiting couple cases that I ordered earlier for this project. And on this one I wonder what havoc that could make, depending on where it 'lands'?. It does not have to be a 0 to 3.8V short circuit to cause trouble, could be 'anywhere' exposed.

Interestingly, they responded and changed the address very quickly, and I even got a message from Indiegogo that the shipping address on my order was updated. I mention this because I've heard people on IGG claim that they couldn't change their shipping addresses with F(x)tec. The fact that I could do it quickly feels like an indication--albeit a small one--that they genuinely are hopeful things will work out this time.

  41. Hi @Laska, The keyboard driver for the Pro1 has been completely rewritten by @tdm when he did the original port of LineageOS. The keymap file in LOS 16 is located in /sys/bus/i2c/drivers/aw9523b/6-0058/keymap. However, any changes to that file are not persistent across reboots. If you have root, the easiest way to make changes persistent is the following: Install the app Run Userinit from F-Droid. Execute Run-Userinit once and grant it root privilege. Next, place your modified keymap e.g. in /data/system/keyboard/keymap (you may have to create the "keyboard" folder
